Welcome to the city of Headingley Uk nestled in the rolling countryside of nothern UK.

This is my first ever journal so I will be monitoring reactions to my postings to try and improve as I go along.

The first pictures show the early stages of the city's development with a total population of 10,585. All seems to be well and growth continues despite the odd grumble about no High tech industry.

This picture shows the main entry into th city with the avenue sweeping in from the North.

cxl_screenshot_headingley_2.jpg

This avenue joins what will be the main outer ring road surrounding the city center. This will lead into the heart of the office and commercial area set away from the farming and manufacturing area.

Here we see the road leading South into the city center. A new avenue feeds off to the left to serve the main industrial area, growth has started but as you can see is not a mass of development yet. Farming area to the right.

cxl_screenshot_headingley_0.jpg

Next picture shows the start of the city center with the ring road to the left feeding roads into the commercial and residential areas. Residential on the hill to the left. Commercial to the right.

cxl_screenshot_headingley_1.jpg

Finally a night view Nothwards looking to the main city entrance in the far distance.

cxl_screenshot_headingley_3.jpg

Well that's the start of my first ever journal. Comments/recomendations welcome  Good or constructive.

Thanks for looking.

Regards

Mntoes.

Nice to see a CitiesXL journal from you; I'll be keeping an eye on this to see where you take it.

Is Headingley online or offline?

Thanks jkon for the comment. Yes I am having trouble with the the road showing through the terain in parts I beleive that this is a known bug yet to be fixed.

Hello zero 7, thanks for passing by good to hear from you. Headingley is an offline city, decided I really must make a stab at a journal .lol Can't enthuse about subscribing to the Planet offer though so I might have to use the new mod to get a large city.

    regards

I decided I'd give the Planet Offer 3 months to see how MC develop it.  First impressions are that they haven't really thought it through properly;  the level of interaction between cities seems minimal and the trading system needs to be turned into a stock market rather than bilateral deals.

On the plus side - it does all look very pretty and there's clearly lots of potential.

This is my first comment in a CXL CJ. And I cannot remember any comment of me in a CJ that hasn't been made with any version of Simcity at all ... 41.gif

Not bad. However these single trees and the bumpy street are a turn off to me. On the other hand these smooth curves do look nice ...

But I guess with my old machine I'll stuck with my old SC4.

BTW: I do hope we don't loose you as a BATter to CXL. As you may see in my recent update your Bosham church is still one of my all time favourites! 2.gif

    Take care!

zero7  That's kind of the way I figured the PO would work at first, hence the decission not to take part. Might try it later if I hear signs of improvement.

Larks2242  Thanks, I must be off to the right start then. lol

Nardo69  I am honoured to have your first ever CJ comment.. lol  I'm not keen on the trees either you can't get the look of a descent wood/forest( that would add so much to the game). Don't worry I am not ready to give up Batting for SC4 yet. Besides I can't afford 3DS max 28.gif  I am working on several lots still it's just RL as usual.   Bosham Church was one of the bats I enjoyed making the most.

To the West of the city lies the small village of Ashton. Many of the residents use the great west road to commute to the city.

    cxl_Ashtonvillage1.jpg

A small and quiet village the residents were overjoyed when plans were scraped to take the west road through the heart of the village. Plans were changed so the road now passes to the East as it carries trafic down the valley. The residents can rest in their beds having won this small victory with the developers and their grand plan for the region. "We are going for growth" is their mantra.

Who would not want to spend a night in such a friendly community?

    cxl_Ashtonvillagenight2.jpg

Not all were heatened by their small victory in diverting the road, Some cast their eyes eastwards to the ever expanding city. True it provides them with employment but at what cost.? Will the city engulf their small village as the growth goes on?

We cast our eyes again to the East and wonder.

    cxl_Ashtonvillage3_6.jpg

We can't stand it the way of progress some say. Let's wait and see.

    Regards

Well the city is growing and the roads are coping with the trafic as the ring road is developed to encircle what will be the business and office disrtict.

    arialview.jpg

Not quite yet circling the city the mayor is waiting for more residents taxes to fund the completion. The ring road will form a large oval shape.  The city center is now spreading to the south with residents commuting to the North and East to the new manufacturing areas. Well away from all the pollution. A border is left at either side of the roads. This city is aware that if all goes well the roads will have to be upgraded.

The business district is now taking shape and providing plenty of employment.

    businessdistrict.jpg

Ok "nothig special" I hear you say but we are only a young city and we are proud of progress so far.

With all the demands for employment there has been a large growth in the manufacturing area, these citizens are keen to work.

    manufacturing.jpg

But with more manufacturing comes a demand for more power. "Far too expensive" call the businesses.  The Mayor's solution is a wind farm. Where? On top of the hills of course, lets take advantage of one of natures gifts.

    power.jpg

we are going to have to provide more entertainment soon as I hear grumblings from the residents "I'm bored". Well I guess we should spend some of their money on them.

But that can wait until next time.....

    Regards

Nice update.  I see you've gone for the wind farm solution to the demands for cheaper electricity.  I've taken the same option - it seems to be the most viable solution when those demands first start to appear.

It doesn't look realistic, where's your central retail and business district or downtown core. From the size of your settlement the buildings look like they belong to a city with a huge population like 100,000 or more. Normally one wouldn't see any high rises unless the city has a population of over 100,000, and then there might be only 1 or 2 maximum.

Point taken, but with limited choices of buildings I just waited to see which buildings grew and I needed to create jobs. I think the whole thing about realism won't happen until custom content is available. The city is growing now so it might resolve this problem. I'll post some more pics soon.

Well it's Chrismas in Headingley and of course the Mayor has decreed that we can afford some new Christmas lights this year.

    cxl_screenshot_headingley_12.jpg

And to bring in the tourists the mayor opened the local Christmas market:-

    cxl_screenshot_headingley_11.jpg

Not many tourists here yet. Hmm.. we'll have to think about even more lights to bring them in. I'll have to work on it.

Thanks, Herdervriend I guess with Christmas and all I kind of forgot to do an update. I'll work on that soon but in the mean time a couple of pictures to show the youth of the city.

The first pictures shows som grafiti artists at work whilst their friends dance in the street.

    grafiti.jpg

The second shows a girl also dancing. I recon the truck owner won't be too happy though with her dancing on the roof though.

    Dancinggirl.jpg

Hmm perhaps it's time to get some more police presence in  the city.

Sorry it's such a short update I will work on a longer one soon.

    Regards

    Thanks all for the replies.

Well the city is growing at a pace now and an ever increasing network of roads is developing. Keepling an ever weary eye on the city's budget the mayor has decided not to authorise the building of any express-ways yet. He knows that they will be needed soon if more business is to be attracted to the city and bringing with much wanted jobs with them.

    cxl_screenshot_headingley_24.jpg

He is a cunning mayor! he has managed to develop a whole new area of offices with the promice of fine views overlooking the lake. Plenty of business lunches held to reach some of these deals, oh and of course the elites can move in along the lakeside in their big new houses and they won't have far to commute ...just sign on the dotted line.

    cxl_23.jpg

He always keeps a photo in his walet to show-off the delight of Headingley (never one to miss an oportunity to push his pride and joy)

    cxl_screenshot_headingley_25.jpg

So we need some houses for the elites and quick. Better get building soon,

    Regards

    Mntoes.

You can switch on Expert Mode and place any buildings except the special unlock-able ones that need certain #s of resources..... it helps immensely in my opinion.

Looking pretty good so far mntoes! I like the layout and road networks a lot!
