I like the eggs scrambled with cheese in them and just plain half&half for the coffee. I'm sure Nonny had some in the fridge. Hopefully it's not spoiled yet.

You know I can almost feel Nonnys presence in this place. I feel at home. And I believe you'll do a great job taking over for him :ohyes:

*hands a medium sized mug of coffee to Bdub* I've given you the container of plain half&half - feel free to put however much you want in! Eggs will be ready in a second!

Also guys, I'm thinking of putting up a memorial plaque in the restaurant about Nonny. Could you guys provide some info and thoughts on him?

Walks in and turns on the lights. Goes to the back and fired up the coffee maker, stove, and grill. " I'll come up with a menu shortly. It won't be anywhere near as good as Nonny would have but at least it will be some hot food. Hot coffee and cocoa are on the house since it's so cold outside!!!"

Well given its summer in this part of the world I like the sound of "Nonnys World Famous Apple Pie" and I think I'll add some "Vanilla Ice Cream" to that order when you get a minute  :thumb:

Oh yeah I forgot it's not winter everywhere. Pie and ice cream coming right up.

Nevermind , I lost what I was going to light up . I even lost my lighter . What a way to start the new year .

I meant to keep this running, but then there was a bit of a quiet spell and my job has just been murder the past two months.  So, in Japan during the first week of January, they have a thing where they eat dishes featuring seven different leafy greens, so I'll lay out a spread of those for the curious.  As always, whatever is available for those who want a non-featured item.  Happy New Year, everyone.

I hear you on that. Here's to a fresh start, even if it's posted a little more than a week after it's official beginning!

Yay for inner piece!  I mean, peace!

Anyways, on these cold winter nights, few things sound better than chili.  Or maybe white stew.  Or beef stew, perhaps.  Anyways, a number of chunky, soup-y, stew-y soups and stews are available to help warm you up as we approach the middle of January.  Itadakimasu!

@catty-cb It might be winter here where I live , but today felt like spring at 50+ degrees F . I could go for some ice cream too . Now , a couple days ago it went down to 6 degrees F . Could have went for some chili then though . How about some music from the old juke box while we enjoy our ice cream ?

That's weird, I used to have that on my phone, I had to give up and change it to something that was more a phone ringing sound, as I'd be listening to the music and then only when it was too later to answer realize that it was my phone ringing.

Nice company, a bowl of Icecream and some great music  :thumb:  perfect

One doesn't quite find winter greens picked from the mountains of Kyoto easily here in South Texas, so my 7-herb rice porridge instead gets oregano, thyme, marjoram, basil, rosemary, savory, lavender...the typical herbes de Provence in chicken broth.  Nope...definitely can't call it nanakusa-gayu.

After this past weekend's hard freezes, it was 79°F (26.1°C) here yesterday...definitely ice cream day weather.  Arrg, I was going to make butter rum sauce, but somebody mysteriously disappeared my bottle of dark Puerto Rican rum.  Any chance we can have some warm rum sauce cooked with real butter and caramelized brown sugar to drizzle over our vanilla ice cream?

Same here , the day before yesterday 50+ F and partly cloudy .Today barely 40F and heavy rain and foggy . And Ice cream and a rum sauce does sound good . @Odainsaker Was the  Puerto Rican rum there , after the New Year celebrations ? Good chance it's disappearance may be linked to the festivities . :???: After such events things seem to get a bit fuzzy . :boggle:

You know, I'm gonna have to get a case of Puerto Rican rum, it seems we are fresh out after those festivities.

We are in the middle of the Hatsu Basho, the first major Sumo tournament of the year.  I'll put out a spread of delicious chanko nabe, the stew traditionally loved by the rikishi.  Each sumo stable has its own special recipes.  Mmmm, chanko....

Go ahead , turn the Sumo tournament on the big screen . I like watching big guys knock the stuffing out of each other , I don't care what country they are from . And yeah , I'd try that  chanko nabe . Yes , I googled it . And it looks like something I would be willing to try .As for the  Puerto Rican rum , hide it in the back of the cooler until Valentine's Day . It seems a bit less festive than the previous holiday . Maybe a Keith's IPA or two , to chase that chanko nabe down . It would have been Budweiser , but Keith's IPA in memory of our beloved John (A Nonny Moose)

That's right John , We are still thinking about you . And with all of that programming skill you had acquired , I'm still looking for an E-Mail from you from the other side .

Yes, for years he'd been advocating Linux over Windows ... or Windoze as he preferred to call it, when I do finally make the shift from Windows to Linux Mint in part because of his posts he's not around to tell  :(  and he was right there have been a few minor issues with making the move, a couple of things I've got to do differently, but no more Microsoft updates taking over the computer for hours (or least feels like hours) on end ... my Mother still uses Windows8 and the other day she switched her computer on cos she had a spare half-an-hour and wanted to play a game of cards, by the time it had finished doing who knows what kind of updates and switching itself on and off ... Mum's spare half-an-hour was gone and she started threating to do unpleasant things to the computer.

... not just here, I play Banished these days and he was active on all the main Banished sites as well ... its a source of regret that the Colonial Charter site had to move to another hosting company (and domain name) at Christmas and unfortunately had to start a new forum as they couldn't transfer the posts so all his posts there are gone  :(

He did a bucket list back in Nov 2015 on the World of Banished site

I just wish his health had allowed him to do it.

To lift the somber mood we seem to have settled on, I'm going to brew up some traditional Japanese green tea (macha in this case) and we'll have some wabi sabi moments while we warmly remember our departed friend.  I'll have my kimono on over my Spidey-suit.

These spring like temperatures we have been having are making me want to have a cookout and go have a bit of outdoor adventuring . That said , a burger on the grill w/lettuce , tomato and mayo would hit the spot with a glass of sweet iced tea . After that , take a walk along the river and poke around to see what I might find .
