I suppose.  I generally find that lemon grass has little flavour on its own.  Sure you wouldn't rather have a cup of Lady Grey?

morning guys and gals. today's my day off and i have a couple appointments other than that I am chilling with my school books. I need the rest. went through two days of caffeine withdrawals which was very painful but did learn my body needs rest and sleep. 

 

I am back on my vegan diet so anything on the menu for lunch that will fit this diet. I'll be around for lunch.

 

hope your all doing well.

Vegan lunch for M³:

Salad of mixed greens with oil and vinegar dressing

Tofu burger, fried in canola oil.  Multi-grain bun featuring quinoa.

Rice and raisins with Almond milk

Vegan's don't have to starve.  Just think a little inside the box.

 

Dinner:

Tomato Juice Cocktail with celery stick

 

Steamed Cauliflower Florets with Chives and Rosemary

Mashed Potatoes with Horseradish, moistened with Almond milk

Steamed Asparagus with toasted sesame seeds

 

Quinoa Pudding with green grapes.

 

Daily vitamin supplement.

 

Vegan diet is OK provided you make an effort to cover all the nutrition bases.  However, it is unnatural for an omnivore like homo sapiens, so you have to be sure you don't miss some trace element and get yourself into some weird deficiency problem.  Without some animal protein it would be a very long haul into some kind of skeletal existence.  Remember, vegan means no animal products of any kind including seafood.  I ate a pepperoni stick while I was typing this.

The menu is EXQUISITE!  I am going back for seconds!   Dinners like this remind me of those snowy cold winter days where the uncles, aunts, cousins, all at grandmoms!  Nice warm and cozy in the big house, us downstairs playing while the grownups upstairs in the main house chatting away and playing music while  the food is being prepared.  A ball game or two on the tube, windows got that foggy mist from the warmth inside meeting the cold windows outside.   and Just before dark, dinner is being served.   Man, this menu and todays festivities take me back!

Well, I think of my grandmothers (my mother's mother) in Niagara when I think of that.  Grandma had eight kids that lived, and all married and had kids of their own, so the whole tribe would assemble for thanksgiving.  The house on Leonard street was a big one and there was lots of room.  It even had a tower room on the second floor, and a two sided porch (too cold at thanksgiving to use).  The kids would all be upstairs playing games and the adults would gather in the dining room and kitchen.  There was a double pocket door between that would be opened up and it made a huge space.  With the dining room table opened up, it could seat about sixteen comfortably.  The kids sat at another table in the living room.

 

We used to go early because there was always warmth and finger foods before dinner, and the odours of cooking were enough to make anyone slaver at the mouth.  Of course, we made our own entertainment because in 1942 there was no television, only radio.  After the lunch time soap operas, it was turned off anyway.  If there was decent snow, we went outside and made a snow fort and a snow man.  We might be able to go tobogganing in Dead Man's Gulch (it became a housing development) over behind the high school.  I never knew why it was called that, but it probably had something to do with the War of 1812.  Niagara was a major battle field then, and it was only a hundred years since, so there was still a lot of history in the daily talk, especially with the war that was current.  Then, of course, there were the Fenian Raids across the Niagara River by some crazy people from the U.S. that were repulsed in good order.

 

So, after being outside in the cold, coming in to the warm house with all the smells of thanksgiving dinner, made us hurry to wash up and sneak downstairs for a peek.  The whole mob of kids usually wound up sitting on the stairs waiting for the dinner call.

Ahhh nice warm memories, Mr Moose.   Cant wait to hear MMM3's TGiving memory!   YOu have really waken up a warm time in my life that were resting up on the shelves of my mind!   In the 70s we still got snow where i lived, but i dont think it is as thick as it used to be.

The nostalgia trip took me back to the fall of 1942 when I was five years old.

i was around 5 or 6 in the 70s,  thats the decade i think everyone was still "with" us.   i remember Tang Orange Powder drink!

Wake up to Tang!  Ugh!  I'd rather have Orange Crush.  You can see that we are a generation apart at least.  You've never had only radio, and that was pretty primitive, what with all the vacuum tubes.  The radio chassis was about two feet square and six inches high.  What at difference integrated circuits made. 

 

At one point, one of the computers I was using in the 1970s took up an entire room and was air cooled by very expensive gear, with a rat's nest of cables running under the floating floor and in the dropped ceiling.  I was at the plant and they showed me the same machine on a card about the size of a modern mother board that was cooled by ambient air and and couple of fans.  Funny thing.  No tubes.  Main frames have come a long way.

 

However, this machine I am using now is more powerful than some of the main frames I have used and cost something less than 1% of the actual cost of one of those Brobdingnagian boxes of tricks.  Can you imagine a printer with mercury delay lines for buffers?  That printer was five and a half feet tall, six feet wide and had a type drum, hammers, and vacuum tube tuned stages to fire the hammers.  Of course, it did 1200 lines per minute, upper case only.

Well, the big day is over for another year.  No menu for the rest of the week, just left overs.  There is lots of cold turkey and fixin's, so leap in and help yourselves.  Anybody tried a turkey and dressing sandwich with cranberry sauce?
