It's another curry Sunday!  For tonight's curry, why don't we go with a mutton biryani straight out of India?  We'll have it served with basmati rice, and we'll set out the ice cream bar for dessert.

Not into to spicy types of curry.  Think I'll stick with the Chicken N' Noodle I made yesterday.

This is the only bar I'm going to be visiting for the next month or longer .... we have a Coronavirus alert levels system in place in New Zealand

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/120468079/coronavirus-new-zealand-has-a-threat-system-heres-how-it-works-and-how-it-will-affect-you

We went to Level Two on Saturday, today at lunchtime it went up to Level Three, and midnight Wednesday we go up to Level Four .... the only reason we didn't bounce up straight up to L4 is the government wanted a couple of days for people to sort themselves out so they were ready to go into lockdown.

I'm one of the lucky ones at work as they got my "working from home access" sorted out on Friday night and went into work this morning to grab everything I needed re work stuff .... unfortunately couldn't grab the office pot plants as we have about 30 of them at work, pretty certain they aren't going to make it .... someone as they left the building this afternoon was meant to be going around and giving them a final drink of water  smiley-cry.gif.dae3917e69ac0101da905b08f871e2e1.gif

In the US we're handling it on a state-by-state basis.  Illinois, to our southwest, announced they were forcing everyone in nonessential jobs to stay home last week.  Ohio announced over the weekend that they'll do it from tomorrow.  Michigan, my state, followed Ohio's example.  So from tomorrow I'm unemployed.  No, scratch that, I'm FUNEMPLOYED!  I'll work on my stories and my novels and maybe in the 3 weeks we're all sitting at home I'll get a new query letter put together and join the millions of other aspiring writers in trying to sell it again.

We'll have some breakfast casserole today, served alongside a bottle of Louisiana hot sauce and ketchup for you to spice it up a little if you feel so inclined.

sorry to hear that and hope you have success with your stories .... here in New Zealand the government is going to pay 80% of the minimum wage to people (works out at about $500 a week) who end up out of work because of the shutdown and they have just negotiated a deal with the banks to give those home owners a six month mortgage holiday which hopefully should be enough to keep them going till things return to normal and they can return to work again

And it seems people are planning on lots of home repair, etc over the next month

Well, it seems the federal gov't has passed their bill which will line my pockets with a little extra cash, and the state is paying me unemployment since I'm not working.  I'll actually come out ahead on this, so far as we don't get dragged into weeks and weeks of missing work or when I go back my company goes under...

Anyway, how does tortellini sound tonight?  Little weird-shaped pillows filled with meat and/or cheese and drowned in marinara sauce served alongside garlic bread.

That sounds a yummy way of celebrating my first day in lockdown ... thru technically have been in lockdown since monday when the L2 restrictions took effect as I come under the over seventy or with pre-existing health problems isolation rules .... it would be seriously boring if it wasn't for the working at home setup or the fact that the work computers have Skype on them so I can at least still talk to people

The days have begun to melt together, one right on into the next and it was difficult to remember that today is CURRY SUNDAY.  For today's curry, we'll go with an old Japanese standby, katsu-curry: Japanese brown curry over a breaded and deep fried pork cutlet and Japanese sticky rice.  Yum!

I have at least two more weeks of Funemployment left.  I have been working on a serious edit of my old Sensational Six series that won me a couple of Trixies here (I have long since shuttered the series as I've moved it off-site and turned it into all prose) and after not updating it since I fell far behind on it last August this has given me the chance to put me right where I need to be so far as updates go.  Then it branches off into The Best Defense and The Long Winter, but not for another year and a half or so.  What are you working to accomplish during your funemployment staycations?

While I really do appreciate the fact that my work set me up to work from home ... its heading into winter here and I would have loved a few weeks off work to finish painting the fence and getting all those other pre-winter gardening jobs done

and something to wake you up on this drowsy Sunday morning

That wasn't a problem on Sunday went to the supermarket and as we are in lockdown only a limited number of people can be inside the store ... the supermarket has painted Xs at 2 meter intervals outside and you have to stand on your X and wait for the X in front of you to become vacant so you can move closer to the door .... it feels like a very weird game .... it probably wouldn't be to bad but we are heading into late autumn - early winter here, so really not the weather to be standing outside for long periods of time

Side jobs. There's no down time in my line of work. One thing marriage taught me, work is more fun than days off are. The missies always had long lists of chores for me. At least I get paid at work.

Thankfully I'm not given busy work to do on my days off, so I get to work on my stories, although our kids asked to learn about the Civil War so we spent a few mornings going over some of that.

For tonight, I feel like I've had too much sugar today, so let's roast up some vegetables (green peppers, red and yellow bell peppers, onions, potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, corn, and chick peas), season them with olive oil and garlic, salt, and pepper, and eat them with garlic bread.

Hahahaha, my avatar now looks right side up for April Fool's Day! Hahaha, I wish this was intentional, like I actually planned this out 15 years in advance, but I can't claim credit for that.

Also, I've been told that I'm only supposed to put one space after the end of a sentence before the beginning of the next. Apparently, MLA, Chicago, APA, AP, and so on and so forth all have that as their set style. So I'm making an effort to do so, although I'm fighting nearly 30 years of typing experience so it's a bit of an uphill battle at this point.

How about homemade pizzas for tonight? Mine has bacon, green peppers, onions, and mushrooms on it. Let me know what you want on yours, and we'll fix it up for you!

We've made it another week, everyone, so prepare yourselves for CURRY SUNDAY! Today we'll be going with split-pea curry, with plenty of peas. Instead of offering you a choice, you're going to be getting naan whether you like it or not. That's just the way it is this week. Enjoy!

I feel like paella today, with chicken, clams, and shrimp in a flavorful saffron rice. Apparently saffron, the real stuff, is extremely expensive. I wonder if it will still remain expensive once we have replicators and indoor tower farms like in those Pegasus Productions skyfarms for SC4.

About $80 a tin(a very small tin), the last I heard. But, unless you live in Marseille, how often do you make bouillabaisse?

It's here again! Congratulations on making it through another week, everyone. I knew you could do it. Now let's sit down and have some curry. I think for today we're going to go with Thai red curry with chicken, bamboo shoots, red and green bell peppers, and mushrooms all served over rice. We'll go with that today because I want to eat deep fried coconut shrimp with a sweet peanut sauce as an appetizer. Don't worry, I'll make sure there's enough for you guys, too. Bon appetit!

Years ago one of my work colleagues started growing crocuses  .... a sort of long-term retirement project to give himself a bit of extra income when he retired and he brought in this test tube with only a small amount of saffron in it and it was astonishing just how much it was worth.

The sunday curry all sounds delicious

It is a cold day here in Upper Michigan, and with that in mind we have slow-cooked an English roast, smothered in cream of mushroom and cream of celery soups, potato chunks, yellow onion, and plenty of garlic. We'll have some warm French bread on the side, and while I'll wash it down with a Sapporo Black Label, feel free to help yourself to the well-stocked wine cellar. There's bound to be something there for you.

Sounds yummy and just the thing for a quite chilly autumn day.

Visited the supermarket today and really pleased to find the queue to get in quite small .... hoping we move from the L4 lockdown before winter really kicks in ... as a southerly storm in New Zealand is very unpleasant to be out in.

The nearest landmass to New Zealand is the Antarctic which is to the south of us, so any kind of weather event coming in from the south means it's cold.

SPLIT PEA CURRY SUNDAY! It's especially good with naan bread, so we'll serve it with that, slathered in butter and garlic, of course.

How is everyone's funemployement going? I'm wondering if we're going to be extended into May. I hope not, it'd be nice to go back to normal, but the way things are, oh well, whatever's fine. I'm not in charge, I don't have to make these high-pressure decisions.
