Today is my shopping day and I'll get home just about in time to watch the military funeral for our man murdered at the National War Memorial.  I think it is going to be a rather emotional day.  It is not often that we get such a graphic reminder of the service our people do for us.

Well, it is not often that an NCO (and a reservist, at that) gets what amounted to a state funeral.  The PM and both opposition leaders were present leaving John Kerry to meet with the Minister of External Affairs this morning.  The PM will meet him this afternoon.  Mr. Kerry kindly laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in honour of the events, but he is really here to discuss other world matters.

 

I've no idea where the C. in C. of Canadian Forces was, but I guess the Governor General had something else that had to be done.  The Chief of Defence Staff was present, and the C.O. of the Argyle and Southern Highlanders gave a very nice eulogy along with the PM.

 

This ceremonial has certainly cooled a lot of the anger that many of us felt when that illegitimate son of a thousand dogs shed blood on our National War Memorial by killing one of the honour guards.  And yes, I am still upset.  However, I think we have avoided any knee-jerk legislation but will do something sensible about our security problems that have been exposed.  We still have our freedoms to protect.

 

But back to business as usual.

Well, here we are in November.  I switched to my Remembrance avatar early to honour the home casualties from the terrorist attacks in Quebec and Ottawa.  Business as usual here in the Moose Factory.

 

I think this week the autosystem will be producing more snacks than anything else as people breeze through on Christmas shopping excursions.  I don't do any anymore.  All my kids are grown up, and have kids of their own and we've agreed not to gift each other.

Well Rico, you've turned into an office denizen again, eh?  I take it your company is supplying some stuff for your home set up.

 

We've had a spot of trouble with some home-grown would-be jihadis, but we've managed to send them both straight to Iblis.  Cowardly murderers get what they get.

 

You'll notice, perhaps, that the guy who shot the five mounties (three of them died) in New Brunswick was one of the first to benefit from the revisions to the Sentencing Act.  He got three consecutive life terms (75 years) without hope of parole.  This is one of the things that the Conservative government got right.  On the other hand, if we are going to let him die in prison anyway, why not just shoot him?  His lawyer said there would be no appeals.

 

So now Parliament will thrash around tightening up some of our security rules, especially the very fractured rules surrounding the houses of Parliament.  If that idiot had only known, he missed the Conservative and NDP caucuses by the width of a couple of doors.  Instead he shot a guard at the door (in the foot) and headed down the Hall of Honour towards the Parliamentary Library.  The Parliamentary Sergeant at Arms shot him at the doors of the library which is just outside his (the sergeant's) office.  Silly illegitimate.  Didn't know anything about the layout or what was going on.  The big caucus rooms are full of MPs every Wednesday, and he steamed by two of the three.

 

I hope that the Parliamentary police forces (two of them) will now become one, and the Mounties will now stand on guard outside the buildings.  The Ottawa police will get to patrol off the Parliament Hill area.  This would be a sensible solution, so I don't count on it.

 

CSIS was already getting more powers, and so I expect they might get some internal ones as well.  They are supposed to only look after our foreign interests, but the Mounties haven't been doing the domestic thing they are supposed to be doing.  Of course neither of them have enough funding to buy bullets let alone run a police force.  The same could be said for the Canadian Armed Forces as well.  All the Conservatives have been doing for the last eight years is cut, cut, cut.

Rico, looks like you hit 'post' twice.  Damned phones.  Anyway, regular sliced pickled side meat and waffles it is.  No. 2 maple syrup.  This has more flavour than the No. 1, which sells more, and is lighter in colour.  Some people just don't know what's good.

For the rest of this week the Moose Factory is holding a mid-November celebration of the start of the Northern Hemisphere winter which is arriving today with a vengeance.

You guys already had your Thanksgiving day in October, but for us Americans, the Christmas sales campaign starts right after Halloween. It always annoys me because it's like they want people to completely forget about Thanksgiving. Why?! I don't like hearing Christmas music or Christmas ads before Thanksgiving, but it's just the way it is.
