Welcome to the resistance.

Edit: A quick check on www.rollercoastertycoon.com reveals that there is only one patch for RCT3. I couldn't find any patches for Soaked so the patch matrix looks like this:

RCT3 Original: a partial patch released Jan 2005, the full patch is the Soaked expansion pack

RCT3 Soaked: the patch for this expansion pack will be the Wild expansion pack

RCT3 Wild: the patch for this upcoming expansion pack will be the next expansion pack, and so on with the last expansion pack in the series having no patch

But best advice to you is to get the addons, and then download the patches - the game itself is better with both.

Soaked2.gif.... and it came out in June.  It should also be part of the Gold pack that's comming out soon.

Actually, the second expansion was just released as well: RCT3: Wild!

As their names suggest, they add Water Parks and Animal Parks to the game, as well as more rides, coasters, options, themes, and bug fixes.

Hmmm... Theme Park...

To be fair and honest this game scrapes RCT1 & 2's crown, becuase simply you have to love the graphics & added affects, maybe we should look forward to more expansion packs (And Patches)?

I have never player RCT1 but when I got RCT2, I was thrilled to bits with such low system requirements and it ran like a dream on my computer. When I heard that RCT3 was 3D and you could ride the rides, I was over the moon. I was playing RCT2 wishing I could ride the rides like you could in Theme Park World. (That game was excellent for it's time).When RCT3 came out, I brought it for $60 AUD on special from Dick Smith Powerhouse and haven't gone back. It was so fun to play with. The Peep list missing annoyed me but they quickly released a patch for that. I then earlier this year brought Soaked for $40 AUD at EB Games (Couldn't find it anywhere else) and I found that after just building a park with about 5 roller coasters, the game slows down quite alot and that annoyed me. I turned down the colour, the resolution, disabled shadows, reduced light quality, reduced draw distance to stop it running at one frame a second but I then ended up doing this: 26.gif then 32.gif then uninstalling it!

Does anyone have any tips on what settings to set it on so I can get the best graphics on my computer without it acting like I've got another game running in the background!?

I've got a 1.6ghz Pentium 4, 768mb ram, 40x CD Drive and a 128mb Radeon 9100 graphics card.

And can someone tell me how to get reasonable graphics and performance and what hardware and how much of it is needed?

Thanks.

My friend had the first RCT with both expansion packs running on his old 120MHz computer. It took almost twice as long to play the game.

I beat all 90 or so scenarios for the first, all of them for the second, which I think was about 50, but have been pretty slow with RCT3.

I was kinda looking at getting Soaked! before, but now I really want it. With my current financial situation and amount of spare time, I'll just ask for it and Wild! for Christmas. They look like very worthwhile expansion packs, unlike the second EP for RCT2 or Nightlife for TS2.

@nealos101, those are some SLICK pics.  I love that first one especially.  You can take videos with CTRL+SHIFT+F11, but be ready for the game to slow WAY down as it is capturing each and every frame in pristine quality.  Push those buttons again to stop taking the video.  It gets put in your My Documents/My Videos/RCT3 folder.  From there you can open it with Windows Movie Maker (free from Microsoft.com if you don't already have it) and edit it and add music.  The only downside to this method is that the video taken has no sound.  The only other way to take video is to usea program like Fraps, but it's of much lesser quality.  Now, most people on the official forums have found that www.rapidshare.de is a GREAT place to upload movies for free, and they'll stay for 30 after the laast download.  I've got one there myself, and there's nothing better I've found.

@lakeyboy, I'm sorry your computer doesn't like Soaked.  Most people saw an improvement in fps with that expansion, I know I did, so the only thing I can think of is that your drivers might need updating.  As far as your computer, your processor is going to be the bottleneck.  I myself have a 1.8ghz P4, 768MB RAM, and a 256MB Nvidia 5500FX OC, and my bottleneck ALWAYS is processor releated.  But this is a VERY resource intensive game, and no computer on the market today can run mega-parks without substantial lag.  It's a fact of the game, unfortunately.  That's why it's so nice that the videos come out so nice, as it's removes the lag.

@Ratieya455, they're both GREAT.  I Beta Tested both of them, have Soaked, and was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the four testers (out of 500)  to recieve a free copy of Wild!  It's a pretty humbling experience, as there were a LOT of testers who did just as well as I did, or better IMHO.  There IS a HUGE bug in the retail version of Wild! where the fps drops significantly at night, but it's already been identified as a copy protection issue, and a patch is expected by the 11th.

Now, to Momo, since you (and others) have been wanting accountability by Atari/Frontier, it has been officially announced that once that quick fix for Wild! is out, they are turning their full attention to providing patches fixing the Vanilla version and Soaked.  Hopefully this will go some ways into repairing some issues people have with the game.  I still recommend the expansions, however, with all my heart.29.gif  Aside from the copy protection issue and the ever-present lag, Wild! is virtually bug-free.

Lastly, I suppose I can give a link to what I've posted on the official forums.  No, you don't have to sign up to see it, and a link to my video is there as well.  It's a work-in-progress of Hyrule from The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time.  Enjoy!5.gif

Let me tell you that I was very disappointed with RCT3. I've never been the hugest fan of the series and never played the game myself, but I recommended it for my younger siblings, thinking they would like it. Well, graphics, despite the pictures, are lousy. SimCity 4 has better graphics. The full 3D is a nightmare on my year-and-a-half-old computer. It is set up in a highly confusing manner, runs in stops and starts, takes forever to load even the simplest game, and most of all, I had been under the impression that Gold included Wild, which it didn't. It was gotten at the same time that I got Knights of Honor which I have linked to elsewhere on these boards. Currently only my two youngest siblings and my one older sister, to whom Knights of Honor is too confusing, play RCT3, and I have 7 siblings. It was Whoa, cool! for four days. I can think of very few games that had a lifespan in our household for less than a month, and most were ripoff Tycoons (Real Estate, etc) not subsequent versions of a top-rated series like RCT.

Yes unfortunatley you have got to have a good computer to run RCT3 but it is still the best RCT I have ever played out of the triology.
