I never considered myself an arachnophobe, but if I see one in my bedroom, I can't get to sleep until it's gone. The thought of it crawling all over me while I sleep is... unsettling. Although when I took down the AC in my bedroom last week, I discovered no less than a dozen little fellas living amongst the curtains. They all got a ticket right out the window.

Now on to what I am actually afraid of. Tight spaces. I get very uneasy when I am out of control as far as tight spaces. I have no problem going caving or something like that, when I choose to get myself into those tight spaces, and more importantly, knowing that I can choose to leave whenever I like. But if you put me in a box against my will, I would likely panic to the point of passing out.

EDIT: I just realised that first paragraph could be misinterpreted. Allow me to clarify... *ahem* If I see a spider in my bedroom, I can't sleep until it's gone. While seeing an arachnophobe in my bedroom would also be unsettling, I haven't developed any phobias over it.

Well, I don't have any "phobias" in the traditional sense, although being obsessive compulsive I do at times have anxiety issues. A lot of things which make normal people a little nervous can make me downright freak out. Job interviews, awkward social situations.... but that's what the Xanax is for. 5.gif

In the same vein, there's also the mild paranoia which shifts around between various things. Right now I can't drive more than 5 mph over the sped limit without constantly being on the lookout for where any cops may be lurking, and hearing sirens in any circumstance makes me jump. Because it might be the cops coming for me! 21.gif

Give it time, eventually it'll wane and I'll find something else to be irrationally paranoid about.

I've got a fear of heights, but only when I'm on a ledge (such as looking over the top of a tall structure). Flying in planes doesn't bother one bit, in fact I quite enjoy it. Another fear of mine (and worse that the first) is my fear of needles. I absolutely hate them, and will never put one in myself.

Fear of heights, fairly typical fear. I've tried overcoming it by always looking down of high ledges, climbing etc. But i can never overcome it.

Spiders, Just...Spiders. Small ones I can deal with now, but I still have to make a wide arc for the bigger ones.

I also have a kinda paranoia about them, any time something brushes up on me or touches me I usually think it's a spider, making me spaz out for a few seconds.

I think it partly do to heights i have no problem with bridges on over passes and small creeks, but those huge looping interchanges, were you can see how far down it is, i dont like those either, im ok inside a tall building but hate standing by the windows way  up.

    Log Trucks.

You know, semi trucks carrying logs. I can't stand them! I refuse to drive near them or even walk past one parked in a truck stop for fear the logs will fall off. For some strange reason the phobia is worsened if the cab of the truck is red, Mack, or Peterbilt. To a lesser extent I have a fear of trucks hauling large pipes or beams, or anything that could be a projectile.

This is probably really bizarre, but as a child there was a brief period where I was afraid of...tanker trucks.

My dad was a firefighter. He had a book on his shelf, the manual to Haz-mat placards which are used on semi trucks and trains carrying chemicals and hazardous cargo. When I was 7 or 8 I found it, and could read well enough to figure out. Basically I got all freaked out when I realized that living in the refinery capital of earth Houston, those trucks on the freeways could EXPLODE...

yeah, I was a "special child"...

then again in retrospect knowing the story of the anhydrous ammonia incident on I-10 in the 70's will make you never want to drive a car again.

Easy Bakes: Those Camel Spiders are actually harmless, but they just have a bad reputation for darting into people's shadows, a move that can be viewed as an attack. In fact, the spider is just trying to get out of the sun.

Hard_Justice: I'd call that something like "Alchoholophobia" or "Budweiseophobia."

i would have to say spiders, heights, and those cracks in the sidewalks. not the ones made from weathering and shifting, but the ones that when the concrete is poured, the workers mold into..

    Yup...cant step on them.....

I'd go with bugs in general not a fan, not necessarily a phobia but I keep my distance. Heights only if I'm in an elevator or building something that can crash I'll stand at the edge of a cliff for days and like YAH planes are gravy no problems there.

Well, I don't seem to have a fear of heights. When I went up the CN tower, I not only stood on the glass floor 342 metres above the ground, but jumped on it. Unfortunately, the Sky Pod was closed that day, so I couldn't go up there.

However, I do have a major aversion, bordering on phobia, of looking through microscopes.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I'm not afraid of of heights exactly, but have nausea inducing fear of being "dangly".  I can do all the rides at carnivals/amusement parks except the swings--Chair-o-plane, Yo-yo, etc.  28.gif  And snakes--I can be near them without freaking, I've even touched one, but I don't like them, and I doubt I could kill one.  45.gif

As a retired person on a very limited pension, my greatest fear is homelessness.

Inflation continues apace.  I just got a 7-1/2% land lease increase.  Food is costing more and more for the usual reasons.  The food producers are getting less and less (I live in a farming region).

One of these days I won't be able to afford my shelter costs.  The welfare people won't help because I have just a little too much income.

Other than land lease, food and house costs, my major expense is communications.  Fortunately (?) I have a bundled system from my cable provider with Internet, telephone and TV/FM radio.  After that I have to find money for vet services (my only companion is my dog).  If anything happens to my health, I will probably have to go bankrupt and give up the dog.  This will probably be fatal.
