Can an island city have a "trash" neighbor deal?

Can an island city have a neighbor deal to import or export trash/rubbish?  I know in SC3000, all you needed was a seaport to export rubbish to your imaginary neighbors.  But what about SC4?  Do you need a seaport to do this?  It would be a shame if all island cities had to manage their own rubbish disposal, as most island cities tend to be short of land space anyway.

In your responses please don't answer with advice to download some kind of trash-chute or other device.  I'm looking for a solution based on non-modded gameplay.

If the entire city is on an island you can't. Best way to do so is have a small part of the island in another city or have a shore off your island in the same city connected to inland and use the connected part for trash (and dirty industry/power.) eta in SC4 seaports can't be trash connections.

Just rememebr that for trash to move from one city to another, somewhere must be a road connection that connects the two cities. Now the road tile need only be one tile. So you can make a very tiny island at the edge and connect the two BUT you must have someway for the trash trucks to get to the connection. Ferries and bridges are options. But try the tiny island with ferry option and it should work. Also the tiny island, maybe just 4x4 tiles or 5x5 or something like that would also let you have a power sell connection. Then to get the power from the connection to your island you would need underwater power lines at STEX or just use the default maxis lines. The stex underwater lines look much much much more realistic.

You should have some sort of road connection to another city anyway or you'll have a hard time getting demand.

Actually, I think you are all wrong (!)

Can't a seaport move the trash? I remember this being the case for some reason...

I remember seeing an "underwater road connection" feature somewhere on the STEX.  I think it was a PEGPROD item, but not sure.  This would eliminate having to build a small island for a road connection.  PEGPROD also garbage barges.  In the game, it's technically an incinerator of sorts, but it simulates shipping the garbage off to some location outside your region.

Is there any way to mod the game to let you create a trash deal from a seaport (ala SC3000)? I often find that it is somewhat difficult to create small islands that line up, allowing you to build bridges between two cities across water. Plus, the seaport option is pretty realistic, a lot of cities ship their garbage out on barges.

I've just always simply created a reasonably small neighboring island on my main islands square, take a simple bridge over to it, and then put a road over to the neighbor to do the deals. I know it's not what some people want, but it's usually so small that I don't barely even notice it there plus I need the neighbors to supply me with the rest of the stuff that I need for my city (like I wouldn't exactly put a massive power plant on an island with all the pollution they generate and soon enough outgrow windmills unless I want whole fields of windmills so I make the connection across the bay to the small island.). Obviously less than perfect solution and one that I'm sure everybody already knows and does so it baffles me why I bothered to write it up. LOL bored today I guess.

Not that I know, though there are MANY custom mechanisms for dealing with trash ranging from blatant cheats to relatively maxis-conforming disposal or burning lots.. but if you want to do it with deals, you'll have to have a road.

I wouldn't call it cheating to find a way to make your island trash it's trash... the fact that the game didn't provide an adequate solution for getting rid of island-generated trash should force the player. Paying for a facility that pretends to ship it away is a realistic function, in my opinion.

If you mean ferry between cities then no.  When sims use ferries, they "convert" to ferries and continue.  They "convert" again at the other side.  So it's not the same as a road connection which garbage trucks need to pass through for the deal.

Hmm, not even seaports.

Is there a mod out there somewhere that adds this capability to ferries?
