I've been watching NHK's samurai soap opera "Fuurin Kazan," which dramatizes the battles between famous warlords Takeda Shingen and Nagao Kagetora, the future Uesugi Kenshin. It also features pop-singer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcBEAZMuT7E, and that entertainingly haughty daimyo warlord becomes ripe for pop-culture parody: "Kagetora Nagao's Returns"

Gakupo - "Melt"

Kamui Gakupo is actually an avatar release for a "vocaloid," a singing synthesizer program which givers users a databank of vocal sounds and their variations to plug into their inputed songs to create artificial singing voices. The Gakupo release uses 500+ Japanese language vocalizations recorded in studio from the real singer Gackt (aka Kamui Gakuto) as base sounds, and the program allows users to stitch and modulate these sounds together almost seemlessly to virtually make him sing or say anything, much like a singing puppet. The vocaloid Gakupo, the Gackpoid puppet, is the next evolutionary step from Majel Barrett's computer voice!

The video is Gakupo's artifical "singing" superimposed over clips from the NHK historical drama television series "Fuurin Kazan," which features the real-world singer, vocaloid contributor, and pop idol Gackt acting in the role of famous samurai warlord Uesugi Kenshin. I must admit, I suspect few of the show's television audience were watching the show for the historical drama! Still, it's all an absurdly goofy mismatch, with real Gackt "acting" and artificial Gakupo "singing."

That was an awesome song, Odainsaker. I love Vocaloid though I prefer the bilingual Megurine Luka. Actually, I love all Japanese Culture, even the oddities (game shows being one). Japanese is also one of my favorite types of food (besides Mexican but I am Mexican American). I am on my phone so I cannot easily post links from it but I have been listening to Ne-Yo, Usher, and "Somebody I used to Know."
