4414. Smarter than viruses, though.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Therefore, one would assume that there are more than 30 posters visiting this thread, though that is known not to be true.

Yeah, I think he's leading the league in RBI's. Or he was yesterday afternoon. McCutcheon looks good too. I'm hopeful for my Buccos. The goal for this year is a .500 season. Then we can go from there.

Well you already set a record for most losing seasons in professional sports, now would be a good time to break that streak.

4430. Yes, but if after a couple of days no-one makes a (correct) guess, you might say that the guess is wrong, so that the thread is bumped, and thus giving a higher change that someone else will post the proper answer. Anyway, from this I conclude that Scheveningen is wrong, so I'll make a new one.

That is awesome! The 8 bit Metallica that is.

@Larks: The thing you must understand is the Pirates were the best team (well they had the best record) in baseball when I was about 11 years old. My family had season tickets back then and the Buccos actually won games. They consistently had a record in the high .600's or low .700's. They have agreed to stay in the city until at least 2031, so we have until then. But as I always say, a crap team means low ticket prices!

1) When was the 70s-80s? I know they have not made the playoffs/won the WS since 1979.

2) Which hurts the team causing them to not be able to afford high profile free agents, and trading off their good players to rebuild one of the big reasons I'm not a marlin fan.

Not at all. There is one (used to be two) team in Canada, and star players from all over the world have been known to come here to compete in our league.

Beyond that, other countries do have their own professional leagues. Baseball is really popular in Japan, for instance.

Also, there is the World Baseball Classic that was held in 2006 and 2009, and will continue to be held every three years if the idea sticks.

Your partially correct there. They won the Series in '79. They were in the playoffs in '90, '91, and '92. There were only 2 divisions per league in those days. They were the NL East champs all three of those years. In 1990 they were knocked out by the Reds, who I believe won the Series that year. 1991 and 1992 the Buccos fell victim to the Braves. Haven't we discussed this before? The reason I despise Atlanta. Luckily for Jim Leyland (The GM in those days) he won a World Series with the Marlins not too long after he left Pittsburgh. I say good for him. He has also been close with the Tigers.

Just don't expect to pay a reasonable price for anything more than lousy seats.
