Yes, well... large and diverse jusrisditctions are unweildy to govern as one huge whole. That's why we have states.

You'd be surprised how different driving in different areas can be. People from down south typically never have to drive in snow. People in the rural west typically never have to drive in cities. People here in the urban parts of the northeast do not typically deal with wide-open highways across sparsely populated countryside.

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

There are also alot of classes of licenses too. Class D is the most common, but there is an A, B, C, D, O, P and M there are also a CDL. However there may be more or less in other states. Also there are many endorsements you can get for it like for example to be a bus driver you need an S endorsement for transporting students.

6852, Well, the only thing I have to do is to drive for the next year (until I turn 17), or at least 6 months or more before my 17th birthday, and I get a provisional. SOOOO THRILLING!

Driver's liscenses! Driver's Ed. was always telling us how we were gonna have to do this and this for the test and then we'd also have to show the secratary of state's office our list of 50 (100 if you're born after...'95, I think) hours driven. Some of the things they told us weren't on the test, and they never asked for that list.

Yes, this is kitty.

I am 18 and I still use a learner's permit. I have maxed out on extensions and I went a year without driving. The problem is that only one person passed my class when I took it. The teacher was forced to retire from regular teaching and was just plain inept. I have to get my license before September 15, or I will never get to drive again (or at least until I reach 21).

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Connectucut now requires 40 hours on-the-road experience. Another new regulation; I never had to meet any such requirement. What I don't get is how it's enforcable. I mean, they're pretty much taking your word for it, all you have to do is sign a form swearing you did your time. There's utterly no way to catch someone lying.

And even if they want a specific timesheet, what's to prevent you from just making it up?

As for learner's permits, you only need one in Connecticut if you're under 18. Any adult without a driver's license automatically has all the privileges a learner's permit grants.

Ah, licence tests. For my learner licence I just walked in to the office, took a ticket, waited for my number to be called and took the test. After passing, I got my height measured, my picture taken, and my learner licence. The whole process couldn't have taken more than half an hour.

I'm not sure how long you have to wait between tests for a provisional or open licence, though.quote>

Well, you don't live in a city where your nearest DMV office is near a mall and major subway station/bus hub. Or do you?quote>

No. The nearest DMV is near two malls and a major train station/bus hub, as well as an interchange between two highways.

The state of Maryland wants 60 hours of experience driving. And I can't see it being enforced either. But if you fail the driving test, I guess they'll know then.

Driveing is very easy, even cooking some pasta is more difficult (at least in my opinion)

I felt comfortable on the road after 30minutes driveing (20 minutes of them where practicing on a parking space, ten driveing in the traffic xD) My first drive on a highway was in my secound lession, rush hour, absolutely no problem.

And don't be scared of the exams, they are just normal driveing with one more passenger....

I like pasta. I am pretty good at making many types of pasta sauces.
