Are you on a surge protector? Because if you are, then you're fine.

if you have no protector it's better to switch off your PC during a thunderstorm.

Just switching it off won't help, gotta unplug it!

Also note: surge protecting the power source isn't enough. The internet cable (if there isn't one directly to your PC, then the one to your wireless router) needs to be protected too, as power surges can come through it as well.

To answer your next question, yes, I speak from experience on this one. 2.gif Our chimney got hit by lightning in August 2002 and our surge-protected computer got fried via the unprotected internet connection.

The number of hooked up and operable TVs in my house is exactly 2: the one in the living room, and the one downstairs in the family room. Both are of the CRT variety.

On the other hand, there are more computers than people in my house. All five of us have our own laptop, and my mother has the desktop in her office as well. There may be a spare laptop sitting around somewhere too; I dunno if we still have my father's old one.

There is an HD screen in the master bedroom, and old CRT in Cam's room, Mom's HD in Rissy's room, and a large screen (standard quality) TV in the recreation room.

EDIT: I personally do not watch very much television at that house (my mother's). I do use my computer WAY TOO MUCH!

6919. There are 3 in our home. One in the living room, one in my brothers room (CRT), which is only used for the Wii, and therefore not hooked up to the network, and one small CRT TV, which is only used on holidays, and lays on the attic for most of the year.

I don't have any televisions. Although, since moving back home with the folks, I live in a house with 6 of them. Only 3 of them can actually be used to watch television. Unless you care to watch only The Weather Channel, then you can count another. I don't watch much TV myself, but as you may know I love watching movies. Movies like Back To The Future. I guess nobody caught the reference to said movie, which is how this whole thing came up. Then again, I'm a little old for the room. 4.gif

Edit: Come to think of it, I have more to say about TV and why I don't watch it much anymore.

First of all, none of the TVs I mentioned are HD or widescreen. It seems now that the broadcasts are geared toward such things... well at least widescreen. I know I'm missing part of the shot without a WS TV.

Secondly, why the heck do I have to go buy a new TV just to see what everyone else is seeing? They have become way too expensive. This only plays off of the fact that everyone is being forced to live beyond their means and plenty are happy to do it. People don't have money, they just have credit. They try to fool into thinking they are "rich" by driving fancy cars that get parked in front of fancy (yet often poorly constructed) homes that contain way too much fancy schmancy technology.

Okay, I'm veering way off topic. But the heck with all these people who try to tell me that I need to spend more money. I'll stick with a good ole CRT for the two or three shows that I watch.

I have exactly 1 TV, but I also have extremely poor reception. It's just for playing games on now.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Missing part of the shot? Maybe our TV or cable box is better, but widescreen broadcasts just end up in letterbox format for us. The top and bottom of the screen get no love anymore... 3.gif

6923. Same thing here: if something is aired wide-screen, the top and bottom of the screen become black strips. IF you set your TV to a wide-screen resolution, those strips will be 'projected' off-screen. Ergo, you don't see them.

There are two in my home, both flat-TVs. Both big and Both not very often used. Only for movies, because about 70% of the german programs (Like RTL, VOX(nothing to do with the american FOX) or Puls4 but alota others too) are just.... hm.... crap describes it well.
