2762. GAH! I would get caught by the PFB.

Anyways, on the thing of theme parks, the closest to me is Six Flags Great America, somewhere in Illinois.

Fun place, I would say, although some of it's water park rides are totaly copies of things from up in the Wisconsin Dells.

Yes, this is kitty.

2763. I live within 10km of 4 theme parks - Movieworld, Wet 'n' Wild, Dreamworld, and Whitewater World.

I don't go to any of them that often.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Undefined value, as ESPN isn't a place, it's either a TV station or a company, depending on how you choose to define it.

Now, if you're talking about ESPN's headquarters in Bristol, CT... Google seems to think I'm a bit over an hour away. I believe that.

You'd think the fact that I'm in that kind of proximity to New York City would be of more interest, though. 34.gif

2766. Apparently, Larks has got no clue about the size of the USA and neither do I. Bristol is the name of a place in England, and of a shop in my town. Didn't know there also was a Bristol in the USA. Hmm, CT, that stands for Connecticut, right?

Ive been to Geauga Lake in Ohio (closed down a year ago 15.gif ), Cedar Point in, Ohio, all 3 Disneyworld subparks (I was 7), and thats all I can remember off the top of my head. We are going to Hershey Park during the DC trip...

We have lots of Bristols, I would imagine. If not proper towns, many are certainly neighborhoods.

Er, there are four Disney World "subparks" (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT Center, MGM Studios*, and Animal Kingdom).

Animal Kingodm opened in 1998, so it existed when you were 7.

*yes, I know it's been renamed "Hollywood Studios". I reject such rebrandings.

Just think of it as analagous to the entire EU, not one country. Then you're more on the same scale.

There are several.

Lots of town names in the Northeast are stolen from England. The people who founded the towns very often named them after the places they came from. For instance, in 1620, bunch of Puritans came over here on a ship from Plymouth, England and built a settlement in what's now Massachusetts that they called - get this - Plymouth.

Ahh... Disney World. I love that place. But I chose tropical paradise in southern Florida (Marco island) instead because I hate roller coasters.

Bristol has the shortest NASCAR track in the US. Also, New York is bounced off of York. Nantucket, Mass.= Nantucket, England. Etc.

Chicago is my favorite metropolis in the whole world. I've been up in the Sears Tower. Anyone else?

    Oh yeah. 2773.

Cleveland, OH is named for General Moses Cleaveland. It was called Cleaveland for a time, but I don't why it became Cleveland as it is today.

True. The Northeast has a lot of English names. Louisiana and the plains have several French names (Des Moines, IA; Eau Claire, WI; Baton Rouge, LA). the Southwest and Florida are full of Spanish names (San Diego, CA; Santa Fe, NM; Mesa, AZ). New York City and the Hudson Valley have quite a few names of Dutch origin (Canarsie, Tappan Zee, Peekskill). And there are others all over the place:

    Dundalk, MD (Ireland)

    Hanover, NJ (Germany)

    Naples, FL (Italy)

    Athens, GA (Greece)

    Odessa, TX (Russia)

    Cairo, IL (Egypt)

Native names are also very common... Oglala, SD; Mahopac, NY; Connecticut; Lake Okeechobee... though I suppose those aren't "ripped off".

I despise the Braves. No offense of course, Larks. You would understand if you were around in the early 90's... and if you were a Pirates fan. That tomahawk chop crap still makes me cringe. Must be nice having a decent team though.

Yup. NL team from Atlanta. They were first in their division every year from 1991 to 2005 (except '94, but that season was never finished due to the strike), and appeared in the World Series five times in that period, but only won one of them ('95). Two of the ones they lost were to the Yankees (heh).

They were a good team for a while there, but now they've gone back to their normal state of affairs from before the 90's: sucking.

2789. Aww the tomahawk chop is one of my favorite things they use the same rally song as Florida does for its football games. I saw the 1995 world series even though in 95 i was not old enough to walk/talk i wore out the VHS tape i tried many times to find it on DVD but they never remastered it. I even had a shirt when i was 5 that said "Justice all is forgiven in Atlanta" reference to David Justice's home run. They need to resign Glavine and Smoltz for a going away season i would like to see everyone go into the hall of fame together. And for Pittsburgh didn't you guys clinch the worst record in all of professional sports that has to be hard not making it to the playoffs since 1979 kinda like the MLB version of the Saints.

Well Pittsburg has some young talent in Andrew Mccutchen. That would be funny if they somehow mad it to the World Series and win it like the Saints. Go Phills
