This is truly awesome. Your water is great and the best part is where the white rocks and stuff in the water is. Very impressive.

Awesome, Hawkeye. I really like the approach you are taking, and I agree that the beach area turned out great. Also, (and I've said this to many but I always mean it...) your flora is perfect.

Loks nice. 1.gif I do love the river banks, it's not so easy making them look good when you use TPW. The flora fits too,

however

(I guess you knew thgis was coming ...)

what I miss is a seddlemtn around them. Except for very old jewish cemetaries cemetaries are usually inside or at the edge of seddlements but not in the middle of nowhere. Even in areas where houses and farms are located far from each other you find some houses at such a "centre" spot - a shop, a pub, a house for the priest, craftsman etc.

You scene looks somehow like the remains of a ghost town to me after all the (wooden?) houses have disappeared ...

If this was intended the scene would be perfect.

Take care

Hawk....that is simply stunning! Do you come up with this stuff in your imagination or do you look at pics for inspiration? If its the latter, gimme the site. NAO!

No really dude, that is, to take a soccer term, top-drawer!

As for making a CJ, I AM MAKING A CJ. lol. Maybe having your computer fixed for a virus and fragmented hard drive won't help with the speed.... >_>

How about you update more frequently! Haha. Seeya later man, looking forward to what you dig out of the sandbox.

Wow... so its been a while since i last updated this journal hasn't it? haha well... I actually havnt been around ST at all lately, RL have been getting really busy for me and i have had really no time for SC4. So anyway, this morning i decided to check in on ST and I read through all the awsome comments in this journal and decided: What the hell, i'll throw up another update and see what happens. So thank you very much to all the commenters, while i am not going to be doing individual replies this time i would just really like to make sure you know that every single comment is greatly appreciated!!!

On to today's update: Before i took my long break from the game i began a small oceanside settlement. I based the area off of settlements found in the south pacific and central america. Today i will take you step by step through the creation of the area. So here we go:

Pic 2.1- So as with all my creations i like to start from scratch... a blank canvas to any sim city 4 player.

    industry1.jpg

Pic 2.2- Ok, so one of the best ways to start is to create a "rough draft" of the landscape to help you get a better visual of how you will translate your idea into sc4.

    update31.jpg

Pic 2.3- I'am aiming for a tropical feel, so lets add a mix of palm trees (duh), vibrant flowers and standard green trees to tie it all together.

    update32.jpg

Pic 2.4- Lets add some boulders to add realism to the shoreline as well as continue growing our little tropical forest.

    update33.jpg

Pic 2.5- Ok so lets begin the town itself!

    update34.jpg

Pic 2.6- Lets add some plopable paths for the base of the village and create a little farm.

    update35.jpg

Pic 2.7- Ok so now lets continue growing the area by adding buildings and details such as rocks and palms.

    update36.jpg

Pic 2.8- Another farm and some more flora.

    update37.jpg

Pic 2.9- I have found a great way to add realism to farms is to surround them with trees.

    update38.jpg

    Pic 2.10- Cows anyone?

    update39.jpg

Pic 2.11- With a little more flora we now have a completed village!

    update311.jpg

Pic 2.12- A path that leads up the hill (adding all this flora took forever...)

    update312.jpg

Pic 2.13- Here's a overview of the area!

    update313.jpg

Pic 2.14- and of course... The final product!!!!!

    costatown.jpg

Thanks for viewing and I hoped you enjoyed this update!!! I will hopefully have another update up soon, but the way things have been going i can't say for sure when. Anyway thanks again and please comment!!!

Hello all and welcome to my update special! Before we get into things i would first like to give a huge thanks to ironicepitome, TmiguelT, ComputerGuy890100, buildsolid, Evillions, dfnva, chrissc94, Schulmanator, Raysfan16, N106, Muck308 and ecoba for their awsome comments!!! They are very much appriciated and I hope to see all of you back here!!!

So today's update is going to be a little diffrent from the others. I was looking through some of my older pictures from when i first started the game and figured i would show my progression through sim city 4. I will start in the beggining and work my way to where i am right now. So here we go:

    Part 1- Before Simtropolis...

We all remember our first attempts at SC4... The endless grid layouts, redundant buildings, U-Drive it missions and the annoying as hell "No job" symbols that would wipeout half the city. This is where we played the game as maxis intended, growing the city from the ground up. I used to play for hours just trying and get a skyscrapper... and would get so excited when one of those three story maxis condos grew. It was a fun game but i didnt even realize how much better it was going to get...

Pure maxis as far as the eye can see... I think this was actually one of my better attempts too.

    start1.jpg

The realism is just amazing isn't it? 2.gif

    start3c.jpg

One of my more ambitious attempts...

    start2j.jpg

    Part 2- So Many Addons!!!

Obviously every one of us has stumbled upon simtropolis one way or another. When i first started hanging around here i had no clue what i was doing. I remember asking rediculous questions and double posting like crazy. Luckily i learned quickly and wasn't too much of a pest to others (at least i hope i wasn't). And then the discover of the stex... the fix to everything maxis got wrong plus much much much much more!  For a while i spent more time downloading files then i actually spent playing the game!

As well as the stex i was also amazed and in awe of the city journals on the site. I couldn't even imagine being able to create anything close to what was being displayed. I used to read journal after journal and every time left wondering how they could be so detailed and realistic. It was something i strived to one day be able to create...

    Part 3- The CJ's

The city journal section has got to be one of my favorite sections of ST. As i mentioned above the CJ's were a great source of inspiration for me and have influenced how i play SC4 immensly. After about a year here at simtropolis i finally decided to try my luck at creating a CJ for myself. Since then i have created 3 others. Here is a small presentation on each of them:

    banner1eb6.jpg

My very first CJ! Some of you may even remember it... I started this about 3 years ago and really had no clue what i was doing. I remember reading the city journal guide in the omnibus over and over before creating it. It was definatly a learning experince and i gained alot of knowledge on how a CJ should be run. All and all it was a decent start to my City Journaling carrer...

    Some early suburbs...

    coralflats1aq4.jpg

    The Coral Bay beach!

    beach4gd2.jpg

And of course the concrete joungle downtown area...

    down1td4.jpg

    bannerkh0.jpg

After Coral Bay i took about a year break from SC4. When i came back i jumped into a brand new CJ called Ampton County. Im pretty sure this was my longest CJ with about 7 pages worth of updates. In this CJ i started to lean more towards realism rather than creating a gigantic mass of towering buildings which had dominated my playing style prior to this journal. Overall i think this was a vast improvment over Coral Bay!

Nothing much to say... Enjoy the following pictures!

    update83.jpg

    update811.jpg

    update810.jpg

    update826.jpg

    headerw.jpg

Haven Cove is my most recent CJ other than the Sandbox. I started it about half a year ago and while it is only about two or three pages long it definatly displays what i believe is some of my best work. When i compare Coral Bay to this i am blown away by the amount i have improved. In my eyes i had finally reached the level of detail and realism i had been in awe of when i first arrived at Simtropolis.

Once again not much to say... Enjoy the pictures!

The CJ your viewing right now 1.gif... I hope to be able to continue this CJ for a while!!!

I thank you all for viewing this CJ and all my CJ's in the past. I have truly enjoyed my time with Sim city 4 as well as the time spent on this site and would like to thank all of you in the community for making it so much fun!!! I hope to be here for a while longer and to hopefully inspire newcomers to embark on the same sim city 4 journey i once traveled. Thanks for viewing...

    -Hawkeye
