These are really looking nice! You may want to look into texturing some of the poles and things. Gray does look find, but perhaps you could find a more metallic texture that fits the same color range.

Here is one that i found that could be used as an example.  (I would try to find others to suit what you are looking for)

http://cgtextures.com/texview.php?id=3280&PHPSESSID=2e7b59906f33806163bbf4bf0d60a641

Just remember to modify the textures to fit your model. The tiling should be right, and the texture shouldn't appear too large.  Try to work with the UVW Mapping modifier to get the results you want.  You may want to add some things or remove some colors in photoshop or something similar as well. 4.gif

Nice to see you open a thread!

I have to agree with Jake though, your textures could use some improvement. The only other thing that bugs me is how blocky and simple your modeling is in some places. It is completely appropriate for your signs (in fact it looks pretty good there), but on the other hand the roofs of the toll booths are just one box. Making thin walls surrounding a plane(or box or whatever) that is lower than said walls would make a world of difference. Then you could also make the roof texture different then the sides 3.gif Just by adding a few details to keep everything from looking like simple primitive shapes you can improve things greatly.

Anyway, good work so far. Carry on,

-Todd

    Replies:

Todd: Hehe yeah. Right now I've just been drafting (so textures are a little wonky) but I'll take your's and Jake's ideas. As for the small walls on the roof idea, I like that one. I'll do some more tollbooth work tonight.

    LE0: Thanks!

    Jason: Hehe thanks!

Jake: Thanks! I'm still working away 2.gif I do like the look of that texture. Recently I've been expanding my texture library.

    Victor: Thanks!

    Metsrules865: Hehe thanks!

Anyways here are the bridges and power poles as promised...

    Bridges.

First up... RHW4 Compact Suspension bridge (pretty much done, this is just going to be showcase)

    devlin-bridge_01.jpg

    Looks at the model itself:

(UWV mappings have been changed on the large block section, see below)rhwsuspensionbridgetower04.jpg

    new_brdge_footer_s2.jpg

    RHW4 Compact Cable Stayed Bridge

    csrhw4bridgeoverview01.jpg

RHW6C Bridge (Notice: I have broken the bridge limitations so such bridges are possible)

    6cplain_slab_bridge04.jpg

    Now to powerlines.

These are based off of some powerlines near I-271/I-480. They have matte black painted steel poles and mettalic arms. The insulators on my model will be changed to a grey instead of this green.

    didsomeonesaypowerlines.jpg

And I'll leave off with that....

OMG i love the bridges! and i didnt even know a 6C bridge was possible!!! 6.gif

just a suggestion: the wires on the bridge look a bit thin (hard to see)

and will they be in the next RHW release?

and the power lines look great too! 9.gif

    @ Everyone: Thanks!

    Specific replies

LE0: The bridges should be in next version. About the wires, it might just be my water mod (colors match a little closely).

Earwax: lol... they actually look thicker ingame (IDK why)

Sky Guy: Bridges will be dragged like any other bridge.

More stuff heading your way soon....

I would love to have the RHW signs, RHW toll booths, and the RHW bridge. Are the power lines draggable or are they ploppable?

Digging up ye old thread again...

Well I'm (somewhat) back to BATing, I'm planning on releasing a series of highway warning signs in a few months.

Some previews (Note, I'm approximating US MUTCD signs, but there will be slight deviations)

RHW-6S Right Lane Ends Merge Left sign front (I apologize for the PNG(s))

    rhw6s_right_lane_ends_01.png

    Back

    rhw6s_right_lane_ends_02.png

A strange merge sign texture I came up with after Ryanb_SC4 showed me this in chat. I call it the exitized version (since some warning signs for exits are rectangular instead of diamond and it looks better than this)

    lane_ends_exitized.png

    Exit U-Turn

    exit_35mph_uturn_right.png

That'll be all for now, but stay tuned, I'll be posting more RHW signage & textures. 2.gif

Very nice start! I would recommend making a parallel release that features the same signs for RHW-4, unless these are overheads.

Maybe some VMS signs or HOV overheads would be nice..

    CGL: Like this?

    vms_01.png

    Swat: Hey, thanks!

Anyhoo, I've gotten them rendered (didn't take too long) and heres the result (click them for full, having them resized down loses quality) :

    Zoom 5 from S

    rhw_lane_ends_all_01.jpg

    Zoom 6 from S

    rhw_lane_ends_zoom6_01.jpg

    Zoom 6 from N

    rhw_lane_ends_zoom6_03.jpg

    Zoom 6 from E

    rhw_lane_ends_zoom6_02.jpg

    Zoom 6 from W

    rhw_lane_ends_zoom6_04.jpg

These are modded with custom icons, located in the fire menu (Hey its the least cluttered), and 0 effect on the city. 10 plop, 10 demolish.

    Icons:

    RHW-8S,6S,10S

    rightlaneendsicon.png

    RHW-6C

    leftlaneendsicon.png

Comments, suggestions on the model, etc are appreciated. These will be on the STEX within the week, depending on any tweaks or such.
