i'm not quite sure how to help you drewz.
i had a .3ds model that i imported in gmax for practice and to teach myself. i decided to use part of the model (only the sails, since the rest wasn't as complete) and built the rest (the base, the restaurant, textures, add polys and fix some of the sails, etc).
    /idealbb/files/sydneytest.jpg
i changed the color and opacity for the transparent windows a couple of times, but the bat won't render the building with the new textures, only the original, i changed the lods and tried a couple of other things, and i managed to figure it out, but i couldn't save it at the time and now i forgot how i did it. can anyone help me?
    thanks for the feedback.

i think i should finish one of the three projects i am working on.
here is the third, the Campo Volantin footbridge in Bilbao (haven't forgotten about Calatrava). i am having a little trouble trying to figure out how i can make this look right in game.

I see what you mean. Lots of BATters seem to have trouble making angled things look 'right' in the game. Can you show a screenshot from the game's perspective?

I was just about to make a request for the Bilbao Guggenheim when I saw that you where working on it. I understand that it must be very hard to try and recreate such a complex building.

And it is an amzing building, I visited Bilbao in 2000 and I must say that Gherys Museum just blew me away.

    Anyway, good luck.

Campo Volantin footbridge, the only way it looks good in game is if it is with oppie's canal set. i'll get a picture soon.

don't worry Born, i will make the night lights. he it is on draft using the canal set (the model is still not finished). since i wasn't able to make it over water properly, i will make more bridges that are functional. some of Calatrava's, but my next one will be the Ponte Vecchio in Florence.
and Dunder, i'll get back to the guggenhiem sometime later.

Ponte Vecchio in Florence6.gif. That's a challenge!9.gif It's not that kind of building that i have seen you make before (and no one else either). Will you make it as R or Cs?

well, in SC4's cameras it looks very fake.  not just because of the draft rendering, but because it looks as if nothing is holding it up.  the base looks frail and weak, like it couldn't support such a mass of steel and glass.  is there anyway to beef up the look of the base?

is that oppie's canal set?  how did you incorporate your bridge there?

Gotta agree with that n74704! It's a challenge. Perhaps the bridge foots (or whatever it is called in english) will show upp if JEC make a higher bridge than in the reality.

n747- that's just the talent of Santiago Calatrava.
the Ponte Vecchio will be larger than it really is because that is the only way to make it look right as a bridge. i read that it is 32m wide and 100m long, which is a width of two squares in simcity which will not work properly with the road going through it and two sides of shops. so it will have to be three sqaures and a longer length, unless my dimensions a wrong. when i figure out how to make jobs in a building it will be a ploppable commercial lot and bridge.

it defies the laws of physics!

he must be incredibly talented to produce something like that.  its strange not to have the main structure directly anchored in the ground, but i guess thats just the magic!

Calatrava studied as a engineer and not a as an architect. He is the modern Gustav Eiffel. His buildings is truly fantastic.

I apologize, I asked you to make changes and didn't comeback. I like the foot bridge and the Sydney Opera House. (I've been waiting for someone to do it) They both look great.

P.S. I nominate the Louve to be next.<ahttps://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/9.gif>

that's allright, thanks for replying now. the campo volantin bridge should be released soon, however the nighlighting does not work with transparency so i'll have to do something else.
and i have tallied the votes and Le Louvre won.
anyways here is the main pyramid, haven't delt with the interiors yet.

This is a comparison picture. One of the buildings is too large or too small. The measurements of the pyramide should be correct, so I geuss it is the building in the back (Sully). Does anyone know what the height is for the rest of the museum (ie the palace).
