DT: I know.

gurrgkud:  As long as I get a tax break and visitation rights, I'm good.

I just thought I'd post this email I recieved recently here, since it might affect any fellow ST Closeteers out there lurking around.

Dear Friend,

It is a great and historic day for our community. Today, federal legislation called the Pension Protection Act was signed into law and it includes two provisions that extend important financial protections to more Americans - including same-sex couples.  This is an incredibly exciting victory that will be helpful to millions of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender families.

This Act is important because it has two hard-fought HRC-backed provisions that we lobbied for intensely and secured its inclusion.  These provisions will help same-sex couples nationwide. Basically what this means is that these two provisions ensure that the U.S. tax code, in times of emergencies, is fairer to more Americans, including our community, and puts us on a more equal footing with other couples.    Here's how these provisions can impact the lives of GLBT Americans:

The first provision, called "Non-Spousal Rollover"

Eh.  There really hasn't been any real homo-news recently.  I could go find someone to "marry" myself and my boyfriend on the Texas Capital grounds if you want to stir things up a bit.  An illegal and very public gay marriage should get the protests and counter-protests a-goin.  3.gif

Yay for causing a ruckus!

A bill that would make it legal for govt employees in Alberta to refuse to perform same sex marriage, and make learning about homosexuality in school's optional died in Alberta leg., but the MLA who tabled the bill is going to keep pushing for it to pass, and will use it as part of his campaign to become the next leader of the Alberta Tories. This October, I believe, Canada's Parliament will vote on whether or not they should re-open the debate on same sex marriage. It will likely fail, though, since most of the house is left wing.

Yay for Canada.

What ever happened to that issue in California that had to do with learning about the sexual orientation of historical figures?  I thought that was silly.

Excerpt from a 7th grade World History Textbook:

In 54 CE, Nero, who loved having sex with men, became the Emperor of Rome. (p 276)

Teacher to Class: "Now what did Nero do during his reign as Emperor of Rome?"

Class (in unison): "Have sex with men!"

Teacher: "Very good!"

Yay for Ancient Rome. 31.gif

I posted a pretty good post at another forum showing the differences between teaching kids about homosexuality as poart of a sex ed course and having kids immersed in a curriculum where religion is the centre of studies, but it's riddled with vulgarities. 4.gif

But it's in this thread (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=114411) which also has the story about that bill in Alberta.

When I was in school, the topic wasn't discussed at all.

I remember this TV movie about a teenager discovering he was gay.  The "Movie of the Week" usually aired at 9:00 p.m.   This one was moved to 11:30 p.m. so the kids would be asleep and wouldn't see it.

and, oh yeah, VCRs hadn't been invented yet.

SkiGeek is older than time. 4.gif

The Pope recently condemned Canada for legalising same sex marriage and abortion.

Too bad only 44% of Canadians are Catholic, eh?

Time?  42.gif

You mean that new-fangled notion about checking a clock every now and then to see where you are supposed to be?   3.gif

That's okay, Zel.  That just means you haven't been subjected to the same TV commercials that some of us have.   The commercial doesn't explain it anymore than that either.  Turns out it's babbling about the homeopathic form of Ben-Gay.

Yeah, it doesn't have anything to do with age.  Just the ol boob tube.  And the fact that anyone can make an absolutely horrendous commercial as long as they have money for air time (but apparently not enough for a respectable ad agency).

Absolutely.

Horrendous.

And now they have one for hemmorrhoidal cream.  Oh God!  When will it end!! 32.gif

In order of appearance, these are the the three most effective commercials of 2006:

FreedHEM. Freedom from Hemmorhoids.

FreedHEM. Freedom from Hemmorhoids.

FreedHEM. Freedom from Hemmorhoids.

FreedHEM. Freedom from Hemmorhoids.

Head on. Apply directly to the forehead.

Head on. Apply directly to the forehead.

Head on. Apply directly to the forehead.

Head on. Apply directly to the forehead.

ActiveOn. Apply directly where it hurts.

ActiveOn. Apply directly where it hurts.

ActiveOn. Apply directly where it hurts.

ActiveOn. Apply directly where it hurts.

And while you may find them annoying, they are very effective. BTW, HeadOn is just a wax ball covered in mint smell. It makes you THINK you feel batter, and you feel better. ActiveOn and FreedHem actually do things. 3.gif

It captures my annoyingness. 9.gif

Effective?  Well, maybe in making you remember the product.  But whenever I pass the products in the pharmacy I go into a violent killing rampage that results in the total annihilation of the human race.  Luckily for the human race, I haven't been in a pharmacy for ages.

I'll apply my fist directly to the forehead and then you'll know exactly where it hurts.

Actually, I'm just kidding.  I can't hurt a fly.  I just like acting macho every once in a while - in the safety of my own home. 21.gif

"It works!"

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH 32.gif

Time to bring this thread back from the proverbial graveyard to announce...

It's December 5, 2006!

That means it's my 6 year anniversary since discovering that I'm gay!  9.gif

What an interesting day that was.  3.gif  I will leave out the details.  4.gif

I hearby declare this Gay Day at Simtropolis.

Now everyone, talk about gay things.  2.gif

Please don't bump old threads...

But, since you have something to contribute (I guess) why don't you tell your story of how you discovered that you were gay?

Well then, I guess he can go start a new one, just to have you tell him that there already was a thread on that subject!

Okay, DT, I'll bite.  3.gif  I think I may have told this story in this thread a long time ago, but it's surely buried under tons of pages.  3.gif

But first, something about your first comment:

"Please don't bump old threads"

1)  I had something to say.

2)  I'm not going to start a new topic and supplant a 74 page, long-lived topic.

3)  Impersonating a moderator is a serious criminal offense.  If convicted, you face a maximum of 1 year in jail and a $30,000 fine.  I believe Dirk has a Paypal account.

Okay, the story itself is fairly simple, actually.

On Dec. 5, 2000, I lived in Atsumi, Japan.  Basically, the middle of nowhere.  Not much in the way of partying to do since there weren't any bars in the whole town and the only thing open late was a ramen-ya.

So, I spent a lot of time with my precious Playstation.

At that time, I was working through a very wonderful game called "Chrono Trigger" when it hit me.  I had the hots for one of the guy characters!  <--Now THAT'S embarassing, but true.  3.gif

Well, sometimes fantasy is more interesting than reality, and even by that time, video game CG was getting very very realistic.

It was, in fact, a nice little turning point in my life.  I felt much more comfortable with myself than I had ever felt.  Before then, especially the year before that, I was kind of a basket case.  It was like there was some huge thing in my life that I was missing and I had no idea what it was.  Before that day, I chalked it up to homesickness and suffered through it.

"Oh, so that's it!" I thought.  And continued playing my game.

I told my parents three days later.  My father's reaction was the most interesting:  "What the [bleep]!  You got me out of bed for THIS???  Next time you wake me up, make sure it's something important!"

Oh, come on!  I was being sarcastic! 3.gif

So, what were you bragging about, eh?  Please send me a PM, if you wanna say 3.gif

Zel: Interesting.  What if you had played Tombraider instead, eh? 3.gif
