CitiesXL site traffic too high?

So, I just now checked my email, and saw that I was one of the people selected for the beta!

And I'm so excited for it! BUT... Right now, both links for creating an account and agreeing to the NDA, and downloading the beta.. They won't load! Either it stops loading with the link in the address bar with "done" in the lower corner of the screen, or it says it's loading, but so far, nothing. I mean, maybe it will work by the time I even finish typing this xD... But I'm just wondering terribly so if this is just a high-traffic problem, and that I'm not, in fact, terribly unlucky. Ahhhhhhh............ (And nope, still not loaded.)

Sounds like maybe. I logged in good and tight this morning till Noon CST. I THINK they are messin' with their servers to get in more traffic allowed. MAYBE, I saw they were foolin' with their website. Said later today things would be fixed.

Could be the puddling around with site, servers and all is what might be happening.

Okay, it works now! I was able to register and now I've started downloading it! 1% so far. Using the P2P Beta downloader. I am wondering though, where does it save the file when it downloads? I don't want it to finish, then not be able to locate where the installer is. That would be weird, especially since it's probably such a large file. Does it go into my documents or something? And how big is the file, exactly? Need to clear space out of my HD, though I'm sure I have well enough at the moment for the download.

It pops open the folder when it's done downloading, and it defaults to downloading to the C: drive, under program files, i think. Make sure you have about 3 gb clear on that drive.

Yes, I have enough space. 12.2 GB free... on a drive of 250 GB.. haha... That's probably not a very good thing.. but it should be enough.

Has anyone else actually got into the game and started playing on it yet? I think I hit a lucky spot when the servers were online, so my game registered!

I've gotten into the game and started to create my avatar but then its a no go. It refused to upload and the CitiesXL servers are now down.

don't bother with the avatar, it won't work. Just cancel (it'll take you to the main menu)and play the game. I'm very unhappy of this moment because there's no manual or instructions or anything.  have no idea what I'm doing.

I have a problem. i registered (as Mark), and so obviously had the key etc etc.

And I downloaded the whole 2.whatever Giga Bytes.

But, when I log in and press Play, I get a microsoft error problem.

Also, when I run the two packs of 1 GigaByte each, you know, the "Installing Core Gameplay" 1 out of 4

and then the "Installing graphics" 2 out of 4

well, I didn't see 3 out of 4 or 4 out of 4.

Is that normal??

Heh. Similar to earlier today, their severs have been down for maintenance quite a bit. I hope they smooth things out with the servers for us beta testers. I haven't had a chance to get down to the main beta site yet, since its been down.

QuickNote: If you have the Beta, and are tying to play the game now: Cities XL is down, the servers seem like they ant handle the stress or bandwith speed is not fas enough. so, as a result, CitiesXL will be repeatedly be shutting down for probably (my guess) a week.

Part of the Beta test will be stress testing their servers, so I suppose it's reasonable to expect them to be up and down as they work things out. Just keep on trying!

That is also why they don't often provide manuals (there are the three tutorials), to test the new user experience.

Hello everyone,

As several people already mentionned: this is a beta test, the game is not complete, there are bugs; and we are working on fixing them. That's what a beta test is for. heck, (that's why it's called a beta test ). Also we have quite a large amount of users coming in at the same time..

Several people here stayed all night long to find out what's going on and to be able to fix it today. Currently the game is running, we will have the website back as soon as possible.

That being said, expect both the game and the site(s) to go up and down again in the next couple days as we work things out.. We will have some planned maintenance downtimes, in which case we'll announce them, but unexpected problems may (and will) happen.
