Does anyoune know how to build a bridge in Sim city 3000?

Also, in Sim City 2000, you use to be able to build those massive population centres - they looked like a space ship and they used to house upwards of 250,000 people?

How come you can't build those in SC3000?

I think this version went BACKWARDS!

Am I right to guess that you've only just started playing Sc3000? It's 2009, not 1999, I think you're a bit late to complaining that you're disappointed.

There's no spaceships, and to make a bridge just drag a road over water, you just have to try a few different spots if you don't get it on your first try.

He's referring to the arcologies, which disappeared after SC2K.  But yes, he shouldn't be messing around with SC3K, considering that SC4 is now six years old and showing its age.  If it weren't for the custom content, it would be totally obsolete.

The game gives that message regardless of what the actual problem is. Water pipes or a subway tunnel could be the issue. Looking at the picture, it might also just be that the terrain is too low. Try raising it a couple notches.

Indeed, trying to build bridges in built up areas in SC3000 is frustrating because you can run into all sorts off troubles. For this reason, it's best to build bridges where you're going to want them before you start zoning or putting in any other structures in the area.

I remember SC3K, I always had trouble with that game because of the budget. They never gave you enough amount of money to even start a city on easy!

In SC3000 You had to build the pump next to water, and if it was water it had to be clean water, If its salt water you needed the distillation plant. To Build a Bridge you just drag the road in a straight line to the other side and wait for it to turn blue. You have to make sure the land is smooth enough.

build on-ramps by making a road under the highway then place the on ramp parallel to the highway

You can also build interchanges using two highways. Make sure that the first cross the second and there's enough space to do it: use the on-ramp tool and build one on the three tiles near the angle, the rotate the view and make the same thing. Here's a scheme:

L L L H H L L

L L B H H L L

L B B H H L L

H H H H H H H

H H H H H H H

L L L H H L L

L L L H H L L

Build on ramp

OK the pumps are working. For some reason they don't start pumping water straight away.

Now the water treatment plants are suffering the same problem.

I really miss SimCity 3000 but I can't get my copy to run on XP. I've been up and down the internet searching for a fix but nothing ever worked. The only thing I didn't do was download a NoCD patch for my version. I'm not exactly sure which version I got, anyway. CD art only says "SimCity 3000" and "Made in the E.U." but I don't remember if it was the unlimited or delux or what-have-you.

What happens is the game installs alright, but when I try to run the game I get an error message that the CD is not in the drive. Nothing works after that: running with Win 95 support and all that does not help. I was hoping someone knows of this problem and how to get around it.

Thanks.

well I was a lucky guy finding me a copy of sc3k that actually runs fine under xp.

I bought it at these 10€ game sales boxes that are placed in electronics stores and even in homeworker stores.

I was like hey sc3k for 10 bucks, lets have a look... and the requirements said xp compatible... so I bought it and... it is xp compatible.

I don't know what it has to say, but there's a logo of dice multimedia on the box, a netherlands based multimedia corp ... but I bought in in germany.

EDIT: the website is www.dice.nl but says it's currently reworked. I never been there before, so I can't tell anything else

I took a look at the common sc3k version and the one I got, both are the standard release, only difference is that one runs under xp and the other not. there's no related file differences and stuff so idk what they did to make it run under xp

I have sc3k unlimited and it works fine on xp for me.

Sometimes if I am bored of sc4 I'll go back and play sc3k. Often I use the "i am weak" code to make things a LOT easier. I can develop and grow almost anything with that code on.

    Anyone here still play SC3K?

If so, what's the largest city you've built without cheating?

Personally, I got 5.3 million residents, 8 million in total size ;-)

I don't really play anymore, but it's more because Vista won't let me (I can't save the game on my computer). So instead I just use it as a template for SC4 cities. Even so, I fondly remember my high school years during the early part of this decade when that's ALL I ever played. Amazing game!

As for my largest city, it was 1.2 million.  I played for aesthetics, though...not for population.

I'm a people crammer so I tried to build the largest city possible. It's so vague to me now! I believe I got to about a million? That was like the biggest thing for me, and now I'm building regions of the multi-millions. haha

Too bad they don't have the Asian tileset anymore for SC4K. I wish Maxis would've included more tilesets for SC4K, but then again look at all the amazing Asian stuff we have on ST!

Ah, the good ole days. I remember seeing SC3K come out, and it seemed like such a graphical improvement...so realistic compared to SC2K. The largest city I ever built was Timsdale, with a population of about 1.5 million simians. I remember the population figures being remarkably unrealistic in SC3K, such as a town of about 20 buildings having a population in the thousands. And how can any of us forget the BAT that was more akin to putting Legos together? Good times....

    SC3K screenshot

    Times were simpler then...

    I gotta check it...

from time to time I catch myself playing sc2k and 3k.

    I just loved these games.

and since I luckily found a legal copy of 3k with *full* xp compatibility, I have no trouble playing it.

and thanks to dosbox, sc2k runs fine and smooth aswell...

as for the inhabitants, I merely crossed 1 million in one of cities, but I never played for records, I morely played for visual quality, eyecandy if you want...
