It already is. I run the beta and SC4 works beautifully. Plus the extra ram helps 4.gif

I've been running SC4 on the release candidate of Windows 7 for a few weeks now, with no problems at all. It seems to run the same as it does on a Vista operating system.

If you're running Windows Vista, I highly suggest you try out the release candidate of Windows 7. Its so much better! 9.gif

Okay-that's great news to hear! I can''t wait for Windows 7! I would download the release candidate, but I have only one pc at my house and it runs XP. So thanks the_arbiter24, mono_doh!, and haljackey!

You could have a partition for Windows 7 if you wanted. Or use a virtual PC?

For those running SC4 on Windows 7, are you using the 64bit version? Is it running well?

I am running 64-bit Windows 7. SC4 is running correctly only when using software rendering. In hardware rendering mode, all automata appear translucent and if for example a train enters a tunnel, you can still see the train.

Maybe "XP Mode" would solve it, but that requires virtualization support which my CPU doesn't have. And I'm too lazy to set up a virtual machine the old fashioned way 4.gif

What video card do you use?  Just wondering b/c it may not be a Windows 7 issue but rather a video card issue (e.g., some ATI cards have issues w/ SC4).

Thanks for the response -- are you using software or hardware rendering?

I am trying to run the game on Windows 7 Ultimate RTM, and it keeps crashing, it never used to do that in vista or xp.... but then i could be a number of things, not that windows is prepared to tell me what the problem is of course. All my drivers are up to date, but then there aren't many for Windows 7 just yet, though the the Vista drivers work in Windows 7, i wouldn't be surprised if they needed to be "tuned" for windows 7. I have set the Compatibility settings for the game to Windows XP SP3 but that hasn't worked.

I have windows xp as well so i'm going to try and play the game with that and see if it runs better.

crashes (given that it worked before) are almost EVERY TIME an issue with plugins .. what you have and what combination you have (as well as what you have had in before 15.gif ).. Going through your plugins file is the only way I know to find it (binary search.. half out.. fail? no other half switched.. fail? half the failing again, etc.. you will quickly find the culprit.. OR the other option is that as you push SC4 further and further with more plugins and larger cities, it will simply start crashiing.. if you've used SC4 DatPacker already and htat's your problem you're probably out of luck.. if not htat (packing) can give you a considerably higher headroom

I am running Win 7 x64 Ultimate RC1 and it works fine with hardware rendering. No translucent automata as someone mentioned. The beauty of Vista or XP is that you can also force the software to run in XP compatibility mode and sometimes that solves problems! Sometimes SC4 crashes but so do my other games because my computer is now 4 years old and some hardware, especially the motherboard, is aging. So I think thats just me. Other wise, Win7 is gorgeous and despite it being RC1 and not retail, works like a dream.

I have tried the Beta, and am now running the RC, and SC4 has run great on both. Windows 7 will be a must-have for Vista users, and a good idea for XP users too, but not necessary.

I've had nothing but problems trying to run it on my Windows 7 VMware machine.

Earlier today I actually had it working, but:

    - Installed Direct X 9 update to get SC4Terraformer to work.

    - This really messed up my display settings. Everything was very LQ and aero was gone, etc.

    - I re-installed Windows 7.

    - I installed SC4 Deluxe.

    - I installed SC4 Update (hadn't done this previously).

    - Game would get to the SC4 splash then crash to desktop.

    - Re-installed SC4, didn't install update.

    - Game would get to the SC4 splash then crash to desktop.

The problems just don't end. Anyone have any idea what might be wrong?

I have a Radeon HD 3850. Might be that the issue is related to the videocard. I used to have an X1900 (actually it's still stashed here somewhere) which didn't have these issues.

Joy and happiness. Reinstalled Windows 7, and Simcity 4, and I can't get past the SC4 Deluxe Edition splash. I'm about to give up.

Hi, I have a Windows 7 Prof and a SC4 Deluxe Edition, but I cannot install it. I start autorun.exe, but after language selection it doesn't do anything (e.g. installation wizard doesn't appear). Is there any idea, what do I do wrong.

Sorry for possible cross-posting, I just installed Simcity4 on my Windows 7 laptop. My old laptop died and I lost all my plugins. I downloaded the plugins the same way from ea.com and from simtropolis but I can't find them in my game when I start them. They are also nothing in my plugin folder eventhough I downloaded at least a dozen utiliy lots and stuff. Why? How do I fix it?

hron84: You may want to try running the installer in windows XP compatibility mode. On the file "autorun.exe" right click and select "properties". Then, click "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" This should solve your problems as mentioned above.

happyspider1000: This is the wrong thread to post this problem. If you are looking for answers try the omnibus or the Bugs and technical issues section of Simtropolis. Good luck!

I have windows 7 and sc4 and everything works just fine.. A note on downloading plugins from ea site, in order for the plugins to be installed, you need to run your browser as administrator! Otherwise, it won't have the correct permissions to download directly to your plugins folder and end up becoming lost. If you are already running it as administrator and its still not coming up, check if they are in your plugins folder if it's really there! If it's not, go to the C:\Users\username\ and see if there is a "My Documents" folder. If there is, then its likely it was put inside there, simply copy the plugins from in there to the proper "Documents" folder since the "My Documents" has been theoretically made obsolete since Vista and 7 seems to be confusing a heck of a lot of programs.

Simtropolis and other manual downloads should work as usual.
