Ah, another chance to increase my post count.

Libertarian-ish conservative. It has been stated that Libertarians are against anti-drug and prostitution laws, but still wouldn't want their kids, um, turning tricks for crack money (seriously paraphrased). I'm not that Libertarian, drug and prostitution laws serve a purpose.

But I am so enough to declare that American liberty is dead, killed by a thousand cuts inflicted by thousands of politicians. And the part that bugs me the most is, the American people don't care. They will, when their cage is finally locked and the damage cannot be reversed. But since it's not written on Britney's... inner thigh, no one seems to notice.

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

I'm both. I hate the shortsighted views of Conservatives, but I also hate the whiny nature of Liberals. So minus those and some other traits, I'm maybe a bit more to the left.

Shhh! You're not supposed to say that out loud! 34.gif

Anyways, I'm pretty sure there's been a topic for this before. Probably in the current events forum. I could find it, but seeing as the advanced search has been banished to the land of wind and ghosts, that would prove to be a tricky task.

Bah, no vote option for the gun toting tree hugging hippies who want drugs banned3.gif

Now that the joke has broken the ice i would say myself as undecided so to make an analogy here goes.

Left of Liberals and right of Conservatives. My view on differing subjects vary incredibly and given that politics is filled with compromise i normally head left. Their policies generally seem to be what i want.

I don't actually understand the terms, since in Australia the Liberal Party is the conservative party. The alternative is Labor which as you can see below is not all that much different to the Liberals any more.

aus2007.png

Australian Election 2007

We've scrutinised speeches, manifestos and voting records to produce this chart. We then ran our projection past several academics with a special interest in Australian politics and, as a result, were persuaded to make a couple of tiny adjustments.

...

While the 2007 Australian election reflects a wider political landscape than that of the US, Labor, under its present leadership, has edged closer to the Liberals than in any previous election. The Democrats and the Greens are now economically closer to traditional Labor, while Labor occupies territory closer to the Liberals of the 1980s. However, the rightward and upward drift of the Liberals allows Labor to still claim considerable distance from them. Within Labor, of course, there are right-left tensions, as most of its members accept the neoliberal agenda with either resignation or enthusiasm. The Political Compass demonstrates that the One Nation party, popularly termed "extreme right", owes its extremity more to its social policies than to its economic position.

By contrast, this was my result on the test:

Apparently I fall somewhere around Nelson Mandela and The Dalai Lama.

According to the Political Compass website, I'm here:

PoliticalCompass.png

But then again, British politics is nothing like American politics. To us, your Democrats are right wing. And your Republicans are an extreme right wing.

I'd say I don't really align to any political party. I go mainly by the idea of common sense. It's sort of moderate, but also progressive..I dunno.

I'm a communist at heart, but I know it doesn't work.

Okay, and here's how I know there's been a thread about this before. I still have my result from that test sitting around from... over a year ago:

pcgraphpngt.png

Although, granted, this test has its shortcomings. For one, it at times talks a lot of ethics, rather than of policy. Operating on the assumption that if I believe something to be unethical I believe there ought to be at least some form of restriction on it. Which, for most people, is probably not a bad assumption... but for a Libertarian, it is.

Prime example: are big companies unethically exploiting workers in third world countries? Absolutely. Ought our government do something to curb that? No, it's not their responsibility to legislate ethics.

I took the test sam linked, I fall almost where I thought I would.

pcgraphpng.php?ec=-4.12&soc=-1.23

I'd say I would actually be a little closer to the centre than this, but its pretty accurate.

It also depends on where you stand with cetrain issues.  I did not like that there wasn't a N/A choice for some of them.

I tend to be:

-More liberal on a national level

-More conservative on a provincial/state/territorial level

-More centred on a municipal/local level.

This I found interesting off the site, seeing as I thought the UK parties were more.liberal, but looking at this, looks like they've moved pretty far to the right now.

And here is where I am on it.

Slightly left of center.   Sounds about right.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

I wonder if there is any link between people who enjoy city building games and there political preferences, seen as nearly everyone seems to be a left wing liberal to some degree or other..

I think it more has to do with age. Video games in general tend to appeal to a younger crowd, and younger people tend to be more liberal.

Of course, it would be hasty to draw a conclusion here. A dozen or so people on a single forum is by no means a representative sample of the population.

Ah yes, that would make sense. Didnt think of that 2.gif

And yeah, I wasn't saying it was definitive by any means, but so far it seems like quite a strong trend ^^

As far as that test was concerned, I was at about the same place as Gandhi. Interesting.

I would say I'm closer to the center myself. Still a Libertarian though.

Another bleeding-heart liberal left-winger:

Odain's spot on the graph

Okay, perhaps more moderately pragmatic than a radical cadre of the civil revolution.  I've seen and taken this survey several times over the years in response to similar forum topics, and though I think I may have answered some of the questions differently at times, and some of the if/then questions indeed seem force-fitted, overall the general peg for me has apparently not changed.

I found the political compass to be inaccurate, so I just ignored it. But there does seem to be more left-of-center representation on ST than in the general population for Americans. Also, Ghandi did have some real issues glossed over by history, like his admiration for Hitler. Being close to Ghandi isn't necessarily a good thing.
