Our story unfolds 10 miles from the limits of a major city.  CityVeiw.jpg

Soft soil , thick woods and several small ponds have prevented development in the area.

The only structures in the area are 1-56, the major thruway to the heart of the big city, LCART ( Lincoln County Area Rapid Transit) Rt. 11, and a failing business at the bottom of the exit ramp.RetailVeiw.jpg

During his usual morning comute, a major real estate developer stops at this failing business to grab a cup of coffee.

It is then that he realizes what potential the land has.

He begins to survey the land and finds two parcels of land that would be perfect for development.

All he needs now is for you to decide where he should begin building.Suburb1.jpgSuburb2.jpg

It is up to you to decide the fate of the small town in the swamps.

Ps. im new at this so im not too sure what im doing.

I agree with the poster above me. Go for number 2. Get an early start for mass transit. I envision one of those developments with a town center feel. Something with town homes and condos with in walking distance to shops. Plus it is still close enough to the free way, but not right up on it like in number 1.

    Lakeview

Thanks Almighty Nienaber and Traveler0521 for voting

Im gonna try to get updates out every day so here we go....

The lakeview suburb has been completed!Suburb.jpg

It may be a small suburb but what it has brought to this area is incredible...

Small business's have been growing out of the dirt left and right and construction has already began on another suburb just down the road.Rice.jpg

But the most important news is this small rice farm.  A man and his family living in lakeview were treking through the mudy region when he realized that the wet soil and constant flooding would be great for rice feilds!

Demand for food in the big city could bring in enormous amouts of $$$ for the people living in town.

The Mayor of the big city wants to build a freight and a passenger staion in the region to entice business.  However the residents dont want more trains rolling through because of the noise.  It's a big decision and they leave it in your hands to decide.

Already you can see what impact your choices have had on the region.....CityVeiw-1.jpg

    So what do you choose?

    Build the station?

    Or dont build it?

If the residents of this city start to grow more and more, it would be nice a passenger station. And same with the farms...

    A new mayor

    thanks to pitito21 for responding

The vote has passed and the train stations have  been constructed!TrainStation.jpgbecause of the recent success of our small town developers have been working on building new roads and buildings in the surrounding swamps to the east.  They are currently building a new train station and a new road to connect to our town.NewCity.jpgThe construction of the new suburbs have in our town have prompted a mayor to take action.  His first act of business was to build a small school and a local clinic.  he is also constructing a city hall so that the town can grow and prosper.  Civics.jpgThe mayors biggest plan now is to clear out the farmland and create a new city center.  He hopes that by laying a grid in the city will encourage more growth. After all the more full his city is the more full his wallet is.

Comments and suggestions are welcome please

Looks fantastic. You really made the Maxis content come alive.

A suggestion though, not for the city, but for the post. Next time, please just left-align it. The centering messes up some peoples browsers

    FIRE!

De Ja Vu: thanks- i like that one the best too!

Colonel1: Im glad you pointed that out i didn't know that happens

    Politicman:  Thanks for the comments

ComputerGuy890100:  Im gonna fix that this post 9.gif

After the vote to tear down the farms and develop them failed major fires arrupted on the farmland.  The crops were burnt to the ground since the town doesnt have its own fire station.  Suddenly some residents were out of work and had to leave the town.  The top suspect of the arsen is the mayor himself.CityView-1.jpg

As you can see above the economy was able to recover and new business and suburbs were built in there place,  The city hall has also finnaly been completed.

    NewRoad.jpg

It took a while to cut throught the forest but finnaly the road from an adjacent town has made its way into ours.

    othercity.jpg

Speakin of the adjacent city it too has been growing.  The areas in red are where future suburbs will develop.  The new LCART (train) station has also been completed!

    NewIndustry.jpg

Finnaly.. the mayor has proposed to expand industry by clearing the land encircled in yellow and by lowering taxes on industry.  however the homeowners nearby don't want to have to deal with the noise and poluttion.

Another thing is that now that the town has been declared a town it needs a name.

please respond with any comments or suggestions

please also respond with your vote on whether or not the industrial region should be developed and your suggestion for the towns name

    thanks.

    very intriguing CJ you have

I can't decide on a name (either of the above sound very good to me)

as for the industry, I would say don't develop it there - not only would it affect the citizens, but probably the water as well. The area has great potential for beautiful suburbs. I say remove it from the suburban area; even if it is established near water at least the sims will have their peace and quiet 4.gif

    Welcome to New Richmond!

Poshbakerloo:  The other town will be named spring meadows

Mother of Invention: great name for a city- i think im gonna name there highschool David Moi when its finished.

City2TheMax: thanks for the vote on the industrial zonning

Our little town has now been named New Richmond!  A local photographer has took an aerial view of the the city for the towns newspaper.CityView-2.jpg

A lot of development has taken place since the new name was passed.  The most radical was the expansion of the suburbs into what was supposed to be the new industrial zone.  Suburbanexpansion.jpg

The public voted no to the expansion of the industrial zone as they feared that the noise and the quality of air would wreck havoc on there lives.  They also feared that it may pollute there watershed.  Thankfully they voted no as it led to this new development which doubled the population.

Some newer and bigger office buildings have also started to develop near the train station.

    largerbuildings.jpg

The mayor is hoping that the cities growth will continue on its current path, he is however concerned about the soil that the town is built on.  Recent tests have shown that the soil can barely hold up the structures already and that buildings larger than the ones that presently exist could sink into the soft and muddy soil and eventualy collapse.

In the subdivisions of Spring Meadows, there road connecting New Richmond with them has

    finnaly been completed.

    newroad-1.jpg

There new suburbs are also under construction.  The real estate developers are being critisized for there horrible suburban planning.  They seem to be trying to squeeze as many low rent tennents into there prefab homes as possible and many of the citizens of New Richmond are upset that so many of these people will be coming into there town and taking there jobs.

    cioty2.jpg

Also, a large company NER (new energy resource) has purchased a large tract of land north of the Spring Meadow Suburbs.  No one knows what they are doing here but recent aerial photos have shown that they have built some kind of factory.

    coal.jpg

Back in New Richmond the new highschool is under consruction.

    NewHighschool.jpg

The mayor is now trying to decide if he should reinforce the ground with concreate pillars.....

it would alow for building bigger structures........

however construction on the highschool would have to stop for several years beacause of the cost to reinforce the ground.

The mayor is looking for your opinions on this problem.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Also- developers are in need of some new building designs (aka. do you know any good bats that would fit in with this city?)
