My first thought when I first heard about the notion of trans was not "ew," but "Holy crap, what sort of hell is that person going through to want to go through that sort of surgery?"  That has to be a very strong urge that can't be ignored.

I knew what a "sex change" was as early as middle school although at the time I thought it was purely a concept of fiction/fantasy. I had no idea it was actually possible to do in the real world.

I was never grossed out by it, and as described upthread I actually enjoyed the idea of such fantasies. This is why I love El Goonish Shive. If I had a TF gun I would totally turn myself into a woman for 24 hours knowing that at the end of that time I would change back. (but no way in hell I would ever want to change permanently)

I consider myself bi, but leaning more towards other guys. I realized this when I was 12, though I am not interested in dating a guy/girl. No idea why, I just never got the idea of dating like it was for me.

I understand that. I had zero interest in dating at your age too. I wasn't really interested until I was around 22 and wham-o, suddenly, all I wanted to do was date. Funny, that...

Yeah, same sort of thing here. My desire to date came into existence slightly before my 23rd birthday. What caused it? Everyone else at work was talking about their husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, or ex-boyfriend/ex-girlfriend, and all of a sudden I felt left out and embarrassed that I had nothing to contribute to those conversations.

In college it was never a big deal since the conversations were different... less mature, and thus easier to ignore. And I just wasn't emotionally ready to start giving myself to someone else. I instead felt a need to keep other people out of my life since I feared having too many people in my life would restrict my own personal freedom. I couldn't just do whatever the hell I wanted if I had to worry about making someone other than myself happy, y'know?

I still sometimes struggle with the fact that dating takes time away from my other hobbies... but I accept that as the price of having a life. :P And hey, if you're lucky, you'll find someone who will share your hobbies with you!

I'm gay.

There, I said it.

I'm not sure why I felt the need to, other than I've been here long enough and have gotten my foot in the door far enough to feel comfortable saying it.

So yeah...just wanted to share.

Yay! Although there is a ST rule that all new members must come out to us with a cake, like such:

Only kidding of course. Generally this forum is mature minded and open, so don't hesitate to share anything if you feel comfortable saying it. We are a welcoming community, and if you want to just scream "I'M GAY!!!", it's definitely okay to do so here.

But once again congratulations, and I wish you that all your real life peers are as comfortable with it as we will be.

Duke:  You'd love Ranma 1/2.   :)

I have heard of it and know the basic premise, although I have never watched it.

Despite some early avatars of mine, I was never actually that into anime. I just thought all the girls were hot. :whatevs:

(okay, not going to lie, I still do - but having discovered real women I must say I vastly prefer them. :P)

Yay! Although there is a ST rule that all new members must come out to us with a cake, like such:

But then what if you later change your mind? Would that mean.... the cake was a lie? :D

Okay... so let's say you come out gay, change your mind and come out straight, and then later on come out as trans? Can I have my cake back?

Yes, this is kitty.

I think we may need to bake a new cake, the first one would be all stale by now. :P

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I honestly don't mind, as long as there is enough cake for me.

Yes, but you cannot eat it too.

What?  Not one little experiment on the other side?  Come clean!

Nope. I've nothing against it, I just have no desire that way at all.

Closest I've ever come to a gay experience in anyway is watching my wife make out with one of her friends. But that is different story altogether.....

A cake?  I can do that.  How's this:

Thanks!  I really appreciate that.  It's actually nothing new for me, and I have no problem talking about it.  I knew I was gay when I was 15, which was over 30 years ago. (I won't say how far over...ha ha. I'm an old man in the gay world.) I just wasn't sure how long I'd be around here in the forums, so I haven't said anything about it before now.

All of my friends, and most of my family, already know I'm gay. I don't hide it from friends or co-workers, although I also don't make a big deal about it. I'm pretty straight acting.  With the exception of my parents, everyone freely accepts it and embraces me.  And even then, my mom (who is old-school Catholic) just wants me to be happy.  She rarely talks about it, but I think if it came right down to me having a man in my life who I was really serious about and happy with, she'd be accommodating.  My dad doesn't really "care", per se, since his general philosophy in life is that however a person lives their life is their business....but he has also expressed that he hopes I'm not "that way".  The one person's acceptance of me, which surprised me the most, was my brother.  He is totally fine with it.

The hardest part in my life has been how to reconcile it with my faith as a Christian. It's the single aspect of my life which has affected me the most, and has caused a lot of heartache, confusion, and tears for me. But I know there's nothing I can do about it, so it's a daily struggle for me. As a result, my spirituality has developed in a way which allows me to have a very unique perspective on different things in life.

Well, there is nothing wrong with the Christian ethic, but some of the old testament attitudes shouldn't carry forward into the teachings of love and forgiveness.  The OT is a closed book with the appearance of the gospels of Jesus.

I really wish some of the fundamentalists around would forget all that old scribbling and get with it.  Let's spend more time with the Sermon on the Mount and less time digging around in the Pentateuch.  All that stuff was for a society that lived 5000 years ago.

Similarly, all this "gay" stuff just exists in the primitive petroleum age. It will eventually dissolve and phase out after 300 years of technological progress. I am awaiting the golden age of space transportation.

An interesting design, but I think a sphere would be more to the point.  Largest volume for the surface area.  Long cylinders are not very effective in a vacuum.  Mind you, the sphere would have to be the size of a small moon.

I have some chocolate Bavarian, I've eaten around the edges a bit but it should still be good.
