Hi guys and gals,

Just a forewarning, this is my first thread on this site, please be nice.

I had just created a new city, i got to a population of about 55 000 sims and suddenly the city stops growing, I had plenty of space zoned for development, in all 3 types. However nothing would develop.

So i started to look for the cause, cummute time, under 50 mins, ok good, plenty of water and electricty, High land value, so im thinking too myself about now what the hell am i doing wrong.

So i looked through all of the graphs and come to Education it says around 190 , i was stunned, normally i max at about 160 i then click on Population by Age and my jaw drops, normally i have a peek at about 21-30 then it tails off, its saying that the peak age is 51-60 i was like OMG!, no wonder im having trouble developing, there not having many children. Quick Baby Boomer ordiance, it only i was that lucky lol, my life expectancy was just under 90 that shocked me even more.

So, does anyone know hgow i can recreate more growth for my city? please pm me,

Ive attached some pictures that show what im talking about to help u gys out.

You might simply have also hit a development cap without realizing it. Place some more parks to alleviate Residential development caps and increase your transit neighbor connections to alleviate commercial and industrial demand. This should encourage new growth, which means younger people 2.gif

create some industrial jobs and add some RES next to it who cares if its dirty later you can re-zone

Another idea is to let in a lot of low wealth sims. Low wealth sims are usually younger since they are just starting out in life. Also, put in more parks, blah blah blah, usual stuff.

Over time, older sims will be replaced by their offspring, thus lowering your average age to increase the workforce. I never actually paid much attention to age myself. Maybe that would explain a few things...

You didn't mention anything about what your demand is. Nothing grows unless the RCI demand graph has a positive value. A picture of the full graph (found by clicking on the smaller RCI graph at the bottom of the screen) would be helpful

I've never paid attention to this before either, might be the cause for dying agricultural towns of mine..

Weird how no one pays attention to this. I use it to help me decide budget cuts for schools if necessary. Example, if I'm loosing monthly then I'll cut the bus funding leaving the older areas of town with out bus coverage. Sure it doesn't seem that important, but's it one of those things that if you can use it properly, it can help out a lot.

SC4 is surprisingly realistic in its demographics and economics. Once education, health, saftey and everything is good, your population stops growing. The only way to relieve the ultimate cap is to make things bad again. I read that somewhere on this site but can't remember.

This is when u should get god mode out and have some fun. Usually we dont like to see our cities get damaged but sending a tornado thru the leafy established suburbs is quite fun... You then get to clean up afterwards and rebuild/rezone and inject some buzz into the the once quiet suburb3.gif

My residential always starts young and ends up blue. Apparently they never die because the green never comes back without abandonment.

You can try to decrease funding for hospitals.  Old people like hospitals.  Your city will face a downfall for awhile, but then you can gradually increase funding and let the younger, lower wealth sims move in.

Or send a meteor into the heart of your retirement community, and let the young, healthy and strong rebuild it! 16.gif

Wow, thanks guys for showing so much interest,

When I was building  my transport infastructure (All subway, lol) I plop down park to help increase desiriabiity, but I think the main reason why the are all old is due to the lack of air pollution and my superior health coverage lol (3 hospitals for 50 000 - 60 000 sims), I recently downloaded a lot that cleans the air in my industrial areas which therefore means there is no pollution in my residental and commercial areas, which helps to keep sims heathier.

When I can next Ill try and put a picture of the RCI graph up onto this thread.

I akso tried to increase the amount of low wealth residence by lowering taxes to them but that diddn't help at all. so when im next on ill out down a landmark or two lol, i have about 1 mil sim dollars because im gaining about 7 000 sim dollars a month lol....

    thanks,

    Jmacca
