Vote in the poll now!

I'm not too big of a Football fan, but I always watch the Super Bowl because someone I know always hosts a huge Super Bowl Party every year!

And its not just the Football game that draws a crowd, the Super Bowl commercials are among the most expensive ads ever made and they cost a fortune to air during the game.

This is also one of the only times that Football (American Football that is) is broadcasted all over the world, so all can enjoy the big game.

I'm going to go for the Steelers for this one, although it would be nice to see the Cardinals win their first Super Bowl ever.  Its going to be a good match, that's for sure!  4.gif

Best,

-Haljackey

EDIT:  Because I added a poll, the "quick reply" at the bottom of the thread doesn't seem to work.  Open up a reply box and you should be able to post a comment without any problems.

Interesting how a Canadian has set up a thread for an American Football game...3.gif

I'm gunning for the Cardinals. No clue why...must be their logo...

First thing I found in a Google Image search.  Interesting eh?

I'm not very particular about either team, but I guess it'd be cool if the Cardinals won their first Superbowl. Also, I like the Cardinals' logo better, so I'll go with the Cards 3.gif

I don't really care much for football. The super bowl is the only game i ever watch.  I care more for soccer, which should be called football instead. Why do they call football that if all you ever use your foot for is to punt and do field goals?

But if i had to pick a team id go with the Cardinals, because they  havent won a superbowl yet.

booo.  I don't like (American)Football.  I've never been so bored in my life than when I stayed up and went to the pub to watch a game.  Any sport that devotes more time to commercials than to actually playing (or at least seems to), is not going to win many fans over here.  To see how this kind of sport should be played, go to a Rugby League game 4.gif

Anyway, to answer the question...  Pittsburgh Peng... I mean Steelers.  Purely because they share a name with my local UK ice hockey team, Sheffield Steelers.

Sorry to rant a bit about AF.  It gets my back up!

Those parties do sound like a good idea though!

I always try to watch the Super Bowl... that's the only (American) football game I get to see all year. My favorite team are the Bucs, but they're not in the Super Bowl this year. So I guess I'm for the underdog = Cardinals. But it can change quickly, because by the end of the game, I'm usually for the team that played better...

Well, let me put it this way...the Steelers werethe first to win three Super Bowls, first to four, the third to win five and they will be the first with six Super Bowls. And I think that the entire population here in western PA will back that opinion up.

The cardinals have gone on an impressive run that invokes memories of last year's improbable Superbowl run the Giants. After bumbling through the regular season they caught fire in the postseason, defeating heavy favorites in the Cowboys, Packers, and Patriots. The Patriots seemed almost flawless, and yet they lost. Now the Steelers are not the Patriots and the Cardinals are not the Giants, but the similarities have to make one pause and think about their pick.

The Steelers field a superior team on paper, and the stats back them up. Their number one overall ranked defense is viscious and has more than suffeciently dealt with a host of potent passing attack offenses this year. The maligned offensive line is one of their few weak spots, but the Cardinals have never displayed any consistent pass rushing ability to take advantage of such a weakness. I highly doubt the Big Ben will use the same snap count the entire game like rookie Matt Ryan did in the Falcons-Cardinals playoff game...

The Cardinals are a solid team. I still can not get past some of the devastating losses that the Cardinals experienced towards the end of the season, suffering several double degit losses. But like the Giants of last year, this appears to be a different team in the postseason. The entire year with Kurt Warner driving the bus with the explosive tandem of Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, and Steve Breaston as the engine, the passing attack was simply dominant. Three 1000 yard recievers tend to do that. However, their rushing game was nonexistent. Their defense was abyssmal-especially late in the season. It all added up to a mediocre team that barely made the playoffs by virtue of an embarrassingly weak division. Once the postseason rolled around everything changed on the defensive side of the ball, where the Cardinals have been dominant. However, in the Eagles game, they blew their huge lead and almost lost the game because of their defense crumbling to Mcnabb and Kurt Warner going cold. This is not a team well equiped to hold leads.

My interpretation from all this? The Steelers will win their sixth Super Bowl, 24-17. Can't wait for the game 4.gif

That's what the mute button is for. The announcers are no fun to listen to, either.

Although, with the super bowl, the commercials are half the fun. 5.gif

To see how this kind of sport should be played, go to a Rugby League game quote>

You have to understand something, here. From the common American perspective, football is supposed to be "manly". Your typical American male looks at rugby and sees a bunch of men in tight clothes piling on top of each other. Ask pretty much any guy my age around here and they'll tell you that "rugby is gay".

It's silly, really, since I wouldn't judge a sport based on how "manly" it may appear to be (not to mention that it's insulting to use the word "gay" like that), but that's what guys seem programmed to judge everything by. Boys will be boys, you know?

Personally, I don't care for rugby... largely because I would consider it unwise to be playing a sport like that without padding. Too dangerous. Hell, even with the padding, it's pretty dangerous unless you're just playing flag football or touch football.

Although, honestly, I'm not as big a football fan as most guys, either. Guys go nuts over it, yell and scream at the TV, get drunk... I think it childish to get that worked up over a game. Don't we have more important things to worry about?

I used to be a really big Yankee fan (baseball, that is), but I've found my interest in that waning as I've gotten older. Again, I ask myself, "It's just a game, why do I care?"

That or the ads just have a reputation for being so hilarious that they alone are worth watching the Super Bowl.

The ads are made that funny precisely so that you would watch them.

There are a couple people I would like to see win: Larry Fitzgerald (fantastic player since he started) and Mike Tomlin (was a big reason for Minnesota's defensive turnaround in his only season here). Because of this, I will abstain on picking a winner.

I've never been in any way whatsoever a fan of American football, though the BBC is broadcasting the event live this Sunday, for the first time. So I have a feeling I may tune in and see what all the fuss is about (superbowl that is).

Looks vaguely similar to rugby of which I'm a big fan, so I may enjoy it, I'll be sure to let you know 4.gif

Since I'm from Arizona I would hope the Cards win.   first because it's the first super bowl this team has been to.  And Kurt is so Kool It be cool for him to get another ring.

on another note   it's so fitting the commercials cost so much look how much the players make.

look how much a stadium costs to build.

one last thought   too bad the cards didn't make it last year they would have been able to play at home.    I soo wanted to go to that game.     I have been to some home card games but before they got their new house.

    God loves you

Of course not. It comes from a powdered mixture formed by the grinding of brontosaurus bones mixed with Himalayan mountain goat blood. Of course, they put white food colouring in it so that you don't really realize what it is.

I want the Cardinals to win, but think the Steelers probably will. But my thoughts were pretty much the same last year (rooting for the Giants, thought the Pats would), but who knows?

As for my second annual Maddenbowl, probably the team I'm not playing as.

Here's an interesting video about the Super Bowl.

(Not the acutal game itself, but what goes on that day)

    Pretty crazy eh?

Still a tight poll, 17-14 in favor of the Steelers

    Best,
