Press Ctrl-alt-shift-R in that order at the same time, then go to Documents and Settings, Your User Name, My Documents, SimCity 4, Regions, Region Name, then click on the image.  DON'T do anything while it is rendering on your computer, and try to keep others off while this is going on.

    if you are using paint you will have to go to image, and then attributes. you can change the width and height to the required.

       If you have paint go into it and select the config map for the region.  Then go to image attributes then make it 16 by 16. and if you get that message again minus 1 off of the numbers then divide then by 64 and that will be the numbers you need to use in attributes. Hope this helps

    I just tried that on Menno's New York City and it still isn't working.  His config is 60x60, which is correct for his 3841x3841 map.  Any other suggestions?

    [:0] Sorry for my ignorance, but is the rendering being done within SC4?

    Just one last question, I downloaded a map from STEX, there were two files, 1 was the map*.bmp and the other is the config.bmp.

    Now for the stupid question: which file do I select for rendering? 42.gif

    You render the actual picture (map) of the terrain you will use.

    So basically replace the config file originally there with the one you downloaded.  Then put the image in the folder to.  press Ctrl + Shift + Alt + r in the region and choose the image file to render...

    All the config does is change the order and size of your cities.
    Does that help?

    Hang on. Hang on. Hang on. I've done all of that, and it comes up with the map in the right size, but it doesn't have any of the terrains on it. Help, please (could somebody put it into lamens terms, because I don't know much about computers LOL)?

    I'm not sure what you have done, if you have the region that is not rendered, you need a grayscale image.  That image needs to be 64:1 plus 1 the size of the config.bmp.   With the region loaded do the shift ctrl alt r keys, then browse to the grayscale and select ok.  If nothing happens then your grayscale is not a grayscale.

    If you get the size error msg, then you need to adjust you two files to the correct sizes.

    If I didn't answer your question come on back.

    Well, let's see, are you pressing all the keys at once, and still nothing happens?

    Already been answered:

    https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=67621&forumID=120&search=1&searchstring=#611932

    Basically;
    1) In SC4 click New Region and name it
    2) Open a different region such as London or Berlin
    3) Switch to your desktop and go to your documents/sim city 4
    4) Go in regions, and then into the folder with the name of your region
    5) Paste the config.bmp that you downloaded, it will replaced the current one (you will have to click yes
    6) In SC4, reload your newly created region
    7) Press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R
    4.gif Browse to your documents and pick the JPG that you downlaoded
    9) Click OK
    10) You will now see SC4 saying Creating City...

    Done.

    The problem that you are having with the incorrect size is this;

    Multiply the dimensions of the config.bmp and add 1 to the width and height. This gives you the dimensions that the greyscale JPG needs to be in order to work. If the dimensions of the greyscale JPG aren't the same as whta you've just worked out, the map will not render - You will have to either resize the greyscale JPG or create your own custom config.bmp file. Dimensions in pixels btw.

    sebrat13wildcat, do you happen to have a wireless keyboard? Wireless KBs often have a limitation: They cannot transmit more than 3 pressed keys at a time. So if you have a wireless KB, try pressing [Alt Gr]+[shift]+[R].

    In this combination, [Alt Gr] substitutes [Ctrl]+[Alt], so it's the same, but you only need to press 3 keys at a time, so that it should work with a wireless KB.
