Connecting cities

I haven't seen a way to do this so it might be impossible (or I might need new glasses). I have a region with several islands through-out it, I would like to find a way to connect one island to another via bridge. The problem is when reach end of city screen it cant be built because there is no land to build on, I love the region the way it is and dont want to build more mini islands just to place the end of a bridge and continue to next city with another bridge. So is there anyway to do this without extensive editing (adding mini islands)?  Thanks for any response.

You could always use a ferry system, as well as ports for garbage and cargo. I don't believe power cables need islands.

I kind of figured it wasn't presently possible just seemed like a cool idea. I do use ferry systems and airports, and seaports. I presently use clean incinerators on all my populated islands for power and garbage reduction. How do you make a garbage port? Is that a PEG port?

Swat, he stated he didn't want to do that, so that's no solution.

DemDude, I believe as long as two neighbouring cities have a default game harbor, you can export/import garbage. But yes, PEG has a special garbage-harbor in one of his industrial CDK's I believe.

You're indeed going to have to rely on ferries for residential transport and harbors for freight trucks/trains. Though you could create a subway link between to cities for the residents. It's costly, but it'll work.

I understand that you don't want to build any more islands. But here goes my suggestions anyways. I have experimented with this issue and have found only two options to get a bridge built.

Option 1: Use the "set sea level 200" method/cheat, to build a EL highway connected both city tiles. PRO: actual "road" connection. CON: No water traffic under the fake "bridge" and it is just barely over the top of the water, making it look a little rough.

Option 2: Build a 20 to 30 meter rise on your main island for a bridge anchor. Build a two by two same height island at the edge of the city tile. Connect the road/highway from the real island to mini one (try not to use the EL Highway, it looks bad, the ground highway looks better). Then use concrete tiles to decorate the mini-island bridge anchor and the bridge anchor on your real island, if needed use the concrete or sandstone tiles that are walkways, these you can put under the water. PRO: Everything works including water traffic. IT also looks realistic because you have these large looking pilon thing holding up your bridge. CON: A little difficult to get it looking right, but with practice, it looks pretty good.

I don't have a picture but I will try to get one and post it.

You can use the Big Dig (available at the LEX) to make underground tunnels which can be connected between cities, sometimes this is very useful.
