Thanks again for the comments.  This is a very large project, so if there's anything in particular you'd like to see in the Miami area, please tell me.  Doing so will give me some direction so I don't get lost in this thing.

Ok, here is a quick corollary to UPDATE NO. 1 with some comparison pictures.

A quick picture showing the actual interchange shown in the previous update (I know I need to change the hill to a retention pond):

Also, here is a satellite picture of the area I've done so far, along with some place markers:

How far south are gonna go? Just up to Kendall, or down towards the farms around Homestead? I'm really looking forward to see how you're gonna portray Brickell, and SoBe should be a marvel.

nedal2001: The box on the map below is an estimate of how big the region is (I'm at work right now so I'm not 100% sure about this).  Can you tell I don't have much to do at work right now?

I'm really looking forward to seeing more of this journal. I think it's amazing that people take the time and effort to replicate large areas of their home district - and they look so good!

    Keep up the good work!

WOW! I can appreciate the effort so far!

When creating a realistic city with the game how do you keep commute times down and prevent abandoned buildings?

Can't wait for some close-ups & medium shots!

Good luck it looks great so far!

A nice idea for an update in the future would be a post on how you do this. I've thought about doing a city myself but wasn't sure how to go about getting the scale down and such.

Just an idea, I'm sure there are more interesting things to show but I bet others would also like to see how you do this.

As a fellow south floridian I will follow this thread with interest. I can't wait to see how you do those interchanges with I95 downtown.

Thank you for all the comments 44.gif keep them coming.

MasterPlanMan: So far I haven't actually started with buildings (the shaded part is just zoned, which will match the actual zoning in Miami), but when I do I'll be using the NAM mod to keep commute times down and I might even use a lot of plopped buildings so I won't have to worry about dilapidation as much. BTW, I love your CJ so far.

mentarman: As soon as I can get ahold of a scanner I'll try and do a tutorial of sorts, but before I do it TheJerseyDevil's Edmonton CJ has a good tutorial with scans of the maps he used for anyone interested.

mikeseith: To be honest with you I have no idea how I'm going to do the 95/ Dolphin and Airport Expressway interchanges, if you have any suggestions I'm all ears.

lmcm1990: Those shots come from http://www.maps.google.com , just click on satellite after you find the area you're looking for.

My goodness, MDC looks excellent. I've got a map of Miami, and it seems very to-scale so far.

Are you handterraforming, or using a greyscale?

Shadow_Assassin: I'm handterraforming the whole thing, I didn't find any greyscale images that matched the scale I was trying to use.  I also think it will be easier getting the map to stay on scale than by making a greyscale myself.

lmcm1990: You'll be seeing the one in the first pic soon, the other two might be a while, but they'll be done eventually.  The third one is actually right by where I work.

Ok, here is a little update, I'll be in Tampa for the 4th so no works going to get done over the weekend, but things will be going again after Tuesday.

A picture of the region again with progress outlined in blue.  I apoligize for the lack of close-ups but I haven't done any buildings yet.  If you really want to see just the road layouts close-up just tell me.

Well, I'm back from Tampa now after the 4th of July weekend.   Besides red tide keeping me from the beach I had a good time.

Here is a quick update of the work I've done since yesterday really.  Also there is a picture showing some of the points of interest in the area I have completed.  Unfortunately this project is really involved and I don't yet have the buildings completed so those pictures will be a little while.  I hope you all enjoy and please tell me if there's something in particular you would like to see.

WOW! That looks incredible so far! Don't know how you do it. Sure must have taken awhile to layout. Can't wait to see some buildings develop.

    Good Luck!
