well as u can see ive created an outline of basically what i did, and some advice for u

but one thing, dont give up! i gave up twice, and i may very well give up a third time with this (jk jk, no i wont, its going pretty smoothly in comparison to the other ones and im getting positive feedback for once, orz.)

so u know just keep doing it over and over again till you get something that resembles tokyo, again i bring up grey areas but ur just gonna have to deal with that and not show anybody else, lol. but try and make it as minimal as possible.

if you want some advice the tiles are 15x15meters, use google earth to measure each road and coast line, use a lot of pythagorian theorm, and a bunch of other stuff i failed in highschool and thought was useless but actually becoming usuful now making me wish i had actually learned them.

oooooh and welcome to page four

    Suidoubashi: Tokyo Dome

    DSC00272.jpg

    DSC00273.jpg

    DSC00271.jpg

    DSC00274.jpg

havent been able to update in a while, been traveling and what not. Im actually in Tokyo now, and found some areas first hand that may require work. Anyways this is a small update, but hope you all like it.

ive actually been looking at the devoution link from the Three Rivers Region, the 3RR thing, if you guys all know about it. Well ive been lookin through that, especially at the diagonal roads, or if u can call them diagonal, the FAR FARR road pieces, those things are basically perfect for what i need for the area east of Tokyo station. ive basically only been able to show you areas with either clear cut straight roads (areas of tokyo that are on a grid) but otherwise ive been too ashamed of the messyness. So the next thing to come up is gonna be Sumida-ku and Koto-ku, simply because its sooooo easy! check out google earth or something to see just how easy that area of tokyo is to recreate. oh but one problem was that the dude that had the asahi breweries building from that area has taken the file for that building down, so now i dont know what to do with one of Tokyo's most recognizeable crappy landmarks.

dont know if ppl r watching or not, but i hope you dont think this is dead, far from it

although i have been working on my other CJ for a while now, im also ready to restart work on Tokyo

long story short; I was overwhelmed by study

anyways, anyone wanna help me with some batting!? im gonna try it out for the first time, see if it goes well or not, ive been working on lot editor for a while now, trying to work out a Shinjuku station, doesnt quite work out, so i decided i may have to bat this obscene beast.

    luminebat.jpg

    guess what this is

i sucks, but is improving as we speak, find out more later...

am i supposed to stand up a new topic under a different category now? pfft, w/ez

    Using B.A.T.

    Building Shinjuku Station

    shinjukuekibat.jpg

... suimasen, hidokute suimasen, hajimetate nandesu, minami guchi niwa miemasen yone, suimasen. orz

so this will go atop the rails, it will be the main terminal of Shinjuku station, south exit. just need to build a roof, add some texture, make it a lot, put props and stuff on it, and add a base texture in lot editor... can i do that? is that even possible? my entire plan revolves around that working.... can i make this into a prop and then place it atop a loteditor created rail lot? then transit enable it in bateditor?

questions and more updates due soon!

    http://tokyo-urbanlab.jpn.org/Sim-Jpn-LM-Top-01.htm

    above: link for tokyo dome

link for tokyo dome hotel is... uuuh well its somewhere in a spanish sc4 site, u all know what it is.

    right right,

so heres what im thinking about Shinjuku station. Im going to build this upper section with the main terminal and departments store.

    http://simcity.capitalsim.net/

    , somewhere in there

Im going to then build poles under this structure, which is increasingly looking... well unrealistic, cause i mean just look at the size of this damn thing, how do pillars keep up that massive department store is beyond my comprehension... but im not an engineer, and neither r any of my roommates, so thus i shall let that pass. Anyways, i all seems to be going well, except im still not quite sure how to work with textures, or whether i can turn this into a prop then insert it into a premade custom lot with rail base textures, then give the damn thing transit capabilities using bateditor.

maybe someone can give me suggestions. help!

anyone got textures they'd like to share?... actually i dont even know how to apply textures yet, lol!

    shinyuku.jpg

So this is the south exit of Shinjuku station... now i know what ur thinking, "that looks horrible"...

let me explain myself first before you start thinking, "damn... ur stupid!"

so this is the south exit, the entrances are one level higher because rail will go under this building.

then what i shall do is make this building into a prop, build a custom lot in lot editor with rail textures, then add platform props from other lots.

then i will take the building to BAT editor and then transit enable the structure so that i can do subway traffic and have a capacity of over 700,000 people.

if theres anything wrong with my plan tell me like right NOW!

this will be my first bat, and i intend to post it if i can

You should make a thread in BAT Open Discussion, to get more feedback. To show any real sign, you should show it as a render. Your scale is off by a lot.

    shinjukustationc.JPG

Notice how much taller the building is compared to the shorter part.

ya i noticed the scale of the signs are really off. or did u mean by something else? is one super small tile in gmax 1m? thats my guess, aka my hope!

nah but the signs are wierd cause its still just a draft phase, u know to see how it goes. U can write japanese text u know, so u gotta draw it out urself. But I think i did a particularly good job with the JR symbol.... which is not even on there lol.

    Shinjuku

    DSC00396.jpg

Under construction... these are all the buildings from Shinjuku that already exist in the STEX or other sc4 sites. But Ive made a Shinjuku Station and I intend to build the rest of Tokyo City Hall

    DSC00394.jpg

You might be able to see the train station to the far right.  Bad, then better but still bad version of station I made. It'll probably look a lot better once the area around it gets developed and I can hide the shame with other buildings, lol.

    DSC00395.jpg

Very unfinished... uuuh ignore the eyesore powerplant for now...

It looks realistic so far. One suggestion would be to post some areas of "Tokyo" that you are recreating. For a couple reasons: that we can get an idea of which areas your are creating into the game and that we can provide positive feedback on.

The recreation looks awesome, the sunken roads are my favorite. Keep up the good work.

    Cheers.

Heres the building I'm trying to make, the one highlighted in blue. The section I'm having trouble with is that one to the right. So how do you make curved walls with windows and etc...?

    Update!

    DSC00399.jpg

This part you've seen before, except without the plaza's and such. I don't think I'll start work on getting all the buildings into place just yet. I want to work out the roads first. So thats what this update is mostly about...

    DSC00397.jpg

This is going to be the area around the National Stadium.

    DSC00398.jpg

This is the area where Chuo-Sobu Line and Yamanote-Saikyo Lines seperate. Chuo line heading west, and Yamanote and Saikyo heading north. You can't tell in this picture.

I really cant wait to start working on the Chuo line... cause its just a straight line!

    DSC00401.jpg

This is also an area near the National Stadium, but also the area behind the National Art Museum.

    DSC00400.jpg

And heres a general view of whats going on.

I'm going to explain to you a bit about how I make the roads.

First off I'm using google earth at all times during game play.

Then its really a procedure of connect the dots.

I start from a certain point which is easy to start, in this case Shinjuku Station. From there I use the ruler tool in google earth to measure the distance from Shinjuku Station to a an intersection or a building. In this case an intersection.

I don't bother making the roads behave exactly the way they are, except in some cases where I deem it is crucial to the function or beauty of the city.

So lets take this picture for a second...

    DSC00397.jpg

Its located in the lower right hand corner in the bigger picture.

    showcj.jpg

The red dot is where the picture above this one is, and the blue dot is Shinjuku Station.

I cannot build in SC4 a highway and 4track rail line using FARR, then have highway entrance exits at the same time, and I definetely cant add two stations in there either. So the area around the red dot has to be modified.

But I'll leave explaining that part for another time.

So distance: The point in my CJ that I would like to emphasize the most is the fact that it is pretty much to scale.

So how do I place intersections and buildings in exact distances from one another?

If I were to simply measure the distance from the red point to the blue point in google earth than attempt to replicate that in SC4 I wouldnt be able to do that...

One tile in SC4 is, as we all know 16x16m real life.

    showcj2.jpg

So I measure the distances between things like this.

This way I can measure the distance in google earth than convert that in SC4.

So 2061 divided by 16 is about 128 tiles.

Of course I would measure one line at a time. So I would measure the bottom part of the L, which is roughly about 970 real world meters, than the upper part of the L which is about 1070m. Divide those by 16, and count the tiles...

You don't really have to count the tiles; to build a road over one tile it costs $10, so in other words 128 tiles would equal $1280. So just build your road until it costs you 1280 dollars. (This method does not work if you deal with inclines/bridges/tunnels, only over level terrain).

So my intersections are all placed perfectly to scale, and so are most buildings. BUT, the roads do not look the same, because FARR doesnt work for everything, sigh.

    I cant wait for CitiesXL.

Hope this was of some use to some people, and I hope I can get some opinions on how I am building Tokyo. Also if you have suggestions, and if you are a recreator yourself than please tell me.

I make a monthly visit to Shinjuku, and your version does indeed show promise. I could never hope to even try to recreate something like this, though, as there are just too many things in the Tokyo area which would baffle me as to how to make them.

One thing though: are you using the Sunshine 60 building in Shinjuku? That's in Ikebukuro, and it's not really close to Shinjuku... I could be wrong in my building identification though, so if I am just disregard my question9.gif!

Overall, great work, lots of promise here!
