VOTE: Do you want regions in Cities XL?

hello to all ST members!

biglower from the citiesxl.com forums has set up a simple poll to add your vote on whether you'd like to see a regional mode in Cities XL. what this means is that we can connect up the 10kmx10km maps which Cities XL will feature, to create a regional mosaic (a la SimCity 4) and effectively give the same "limitless" surface area to build upon.

if you're interested in Cities XL, please sign and add your vote to the website poll here!

even if you don't care for regions being in Cities XL, please still cast your vote so that a fairer picture is given. the idea is just to show how much (potential) support there is for this feature of city-building games, and hopefully influence Monte Cristo, the developers of Cities XL, to make definitive plans on adding the feature to the game either before release, or as a future upgrade!

as the biggest city-building community going, this seemed like the perfect place to get extra voters. 2.gif

cheers 9.gif

Thanks so much for this thread, tr0ub1e. Region Play was a key feature in SC4 and it would be a real shame if it won't make it for Cities XL.

Please vote.

Does it matter what us simtrop fans think? I think it should be optional. I mean if the entire world was the region and it wrapped around the planet and every city could be connected that would be pretty cool.

I've read and seen that Cities xl does let you make regions, just in a different way. you have a whole planet to work with, i think. also, the developers are planning to make a multiplayer system that allows many users to create a city on the globe and see how it reacts to others'. you wont be allowed to tinker w/ it, but you can explore another player's city w/ an avatar. but im getting off topic 2.gif yes, i do want cities xl to have some sort of region play. if it doesn't, i will be very dissapointed. I hope it will allow more transit options than even Sim City, but that will be hard to do.

The planet is for multiplayer only.

Maybe the city/region problem could be solved by using the model in CIV4? The whole planet is adjustable in size

Regions definitely. 10km x 10km is awesome. I can only imagine how much city we can pack into that!

Just my humble opinion.

Region for sure. I'd also like to see the ability to see the adjacent city. Perhaps in a paused or photo mode as I've seen mentioned. This really aids in proper planning not to mention would just be very cool.

The floating in space city unit is quite annoying when you want to take pics, just explore or plan out an area that abuts a neighboring developed area.

Yes, I want to see regions in CitiesXL, but I'd like to see city boundaries completely customizable. Since this will be a 100% 3D game, there should be no reason that the boundaries between city to city have to be square and straight. Imagine the possibilities! city limits could follow rivers and mountains just like in real life.

If a region means NOT one boring square city block, then regions MUST be in the game or it would be a huge leap backwards. Imagine coming from SC4's limited but very usable region play back to city blocks. That would be insane! I agree with JaWood too, that you should be able to make the boundaries any size or shape. It would be cool too if you could explore the entire region up close.

I think instead of religion, Cityxl should have different administrative divisions, like country,states,coounty,provincee..... and we can design the boundaries of this adminstratative divisions.

Yes regions are great idea to keep and Cheuk18me94 is right about them being similar to a State or a country , they are a must , I would not buy this game or even consider it if it did not have regions.

I really hope they (MC) plan to include regions in one way or another, as long as they do. It's so much fun to develop a whole region either as one city or as an area

They have not included region play in the original game,

but they are going to bring that feature to the game through a patch, to be released later on.

Of course the best feeling about the game are regions... if it was possible make countries...but I don't like it is cut in pieces. I d prefer tou be a huge terrain and drive from one place to another or commute with the train etc.... It pisses me of in sc4 that has limits...

Unfortunately current technology does have its limits: that's why SimCity 4 regions must be cut in pieces. Also, Cities XL is a 3D game, therefore, it's logical to expect multiple maps to link up as well. SC4Terraformer was a good program, and helped me a lot with reconciling edges with its seamless maps and CXL could follow the example with the CLOD method introduced in one of the very first blogs in the site ("Eye candy landscapes for the masses.") to make very big regions. Personally, I'm fine with the 10x10km map, because you can make bigger regions in much less time than in SC4 with 4x4km maps.

I HOPE CXL has some form of region. I do like the idea of having cities linked to the world (global economy has become increasingly important to cities, states and countries since the internet age) But I want the ability to "zoom" into the local regions around the major city to create neighboring cities, suburbs, etc..

Regions are more of a SC type thing, but I certainly wouldn't say no to it 9.gif

When is it going to come out?

Who doesn't want regions.

That gives us ability to have different rules and circumstances at different parts of the city, making it possible to create very interesting city layouts and designs. Think of having one side of the city being a clean, wealthy and liberal city that sprawls of technology and culture, while the other part is an dirty, industrial complex ruled by a grim and religiously fanatic regime (Referring to Point Zero with Reason and Faith).
