I've been playing around with my Ti-84 plus calculator and online I found a ton of cool games like pac-man and stuff like that. Then I found Sim City for my calc. but unfortunatly the interface and stuff like that is kinda confusing. So I tried some other ones and unfortunatly most of them are like this. But there are some really good games like Megaman. Has anyone else found some good calc. games? BTW, this is where I get most of my games http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/.

The TI-8x series has always been programmable. The intent was so people could make their own custom programs to run for practical purposes, but of course nerds with too much time on their hands are going to do things like recreate Super Mario Bros. on them.

The TI-83 (released 1996) seems to be the most popular of them, although the TI-84 seems to be gaining and I have seen a couple of people with TI-85s. The most powerful is the TI-89.

I have a TI-89. It's a $150.00 calculator. Although I've heard people say they've found it for less than that.

And to answer the next question: no I don't have any games on it. My DS serves my portable gaming needs. Having games on the calculator may seem like a nifty idea, but there's really no practical reason for it besides "because I can".

Most of the people I've seen have some version of the TI-84, though I have seen one person with a TI-86.  Never seen anyone with a TI-85 though.

I have a TI-89 Titanium (which might be what you have since I don't know).  They can be bought online for $100, and a math major told me that you can get them in the local pawn shops for $25.  (I paid $140 for mine, btw.)

And just for grins, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XDTh6T-T7o.

I swear you're talking about Calculators in a way people would talk about computers or cars. But it is kinda cool that they've made all those games for a calculator.

Nope, mine's a regular old TI-89. Got it in January of 2004. Titanium version didn't come out until later that year.

The only real difference between theTitanium and the original (aside from the modified look), is that it has more flash memory. So, you can stick more of these games on it. 2.gif

I love my 84+ Silver 4.gif I mainly play Tetris and Mario, but I do have SimCity on there too. Just not the same though...And block dude and puzzle frenzy are fun too, they're so popular at my school lol.

It might be easier to port SimCity now, since EA has released the source code as "Micropolis".

I was playing on some dude's ti=84 the other day. It had a whole bunch of old game knock-offs, like galaga, frogger, tetris, those old racing games, those games where the screen falls up and you have to not touch the screen, etc. It was cool.

And somehow, another guy at school managed to program a REALLY basic guitar hero.

Ah come on, are really all things being customised to little children toys?

First mobile cellphones: Originally for calling everywhere. Now just a Ipod, with a call function.

Then game consoles, first for just real gaming, now for internetting, watching illegal tv and so on.

And now a calculator to play games on, that is originally designed to just calculate, what is bad, because what if schools let us not have them anymore....

Come on, is there something that stays as it originally was designed for?

Back when I had gotten a TI-86 in the late 90s I attempted to make a simple version of SimCity.  Using dozens of variables and labels I was able to "kinda" get it to work, but it ended up remaining text-based; I couldn't figure out how to get the graph-grid  to work to make the actual city.

@Herdervriend: Absolutely nothing this day stays as it was originally designed for. I have seen customized lamps even.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

i dont think i did anything in my mathematics and physics courses except program my ti-83... i wish the little battery i had in it didnt go missing... those were the good ol days...

i created a game based on the movie the matirx... simple text based game... symbols rolled down the screen spash screen the matrix.. then choices.. red or blue pill.. ect... and i even programed definitions for everything... i dint have a link cable so i spent most of my time after making it programing it into others calculators for them... it was a hit at my school for the time... ahh i wish i still had it...

one time i plotted the points and made the batman symbol and drew a picture of spiderman using nothing but coordinates... my teacher said he would give me an a if i could sum it up in one line... but im not einstien

overall ti83 was awesome calc for the time... now i want a ti84... someone send me thier old one

our world is a simcity

I've seen this group make a Game Boy Emulator on the TI-84. but it only works with certain older calculators since TI cut some of the extra memory to make it cheaper to make newer TI-84's.

I wanna buy one of those calculators now. Lotsa cool stuff for them.

Just curious, do you have to load them somehow or would it be the only thing you can do on it once you add it?
