I LIKE Simcity Societies!

I've been enjoying SCS and it's expansion!  While I do think that the kinds of societies could be expanded (like maybe some societies being created with two or more of the types rather than just one) I think it is still quite enjoyable.

All I need are bigger maps so I can have more time in the game!

I see alot of people here who really hate this game, but what about the non-haters? I know I'm not the only one.

I really like the concept on that the game is focused on the citizens. Also, it's the only game I have that can make a futuristic city.

I only kinda like Societies, but only when Im not in a real down-and-dirty city building mood.

Sometimes I use it to express my anger or happiness, depending on the type of society you are buildling.

I really like SCS. Of course it's nowhere near the complexity of SC4 (especially for transportation), but SCS has amazing graphic details, I enjoy the way we can zoom in/out, the flexibility of the skyline views. Yes it's an easy game, no real challenges, but at least you can build realistic looking cities (if you like square-like roads). SC4 will always remain the best (being the best with the NAM and STEX products), but SCS is a nice refresher, more simple and extremely addictive as well. I'm gonna stick with SCS until Cities XL comes out.

I really liked the challenges in Socities! They are a real challenge. It took me time to learn what affects what in the game and many times I had to start a challenge over but it was worth it. I wish there were more challenges to add. To me they were by far the best part of Socities. Graphics were great also along with the animations.

Many have underated this game and never gave it a shot. It took me many hours to get the hang of it and when I see people say they tried it out for 20 minutes or an hour and then uninstalled cause it sucked, they obviously wanted instant gratification.

To me it was a game worth learning and I still play it along with SC4.

I would reccomend this game. It's sad that EA made no further effort beyond the Destinations addition. EA apparently wants instant mega bucks or they just abandon the game.

I saw this game yesterday at Walmart for $17. Box set with SC4. I already have SC4 of course, but I figure for $17 it's worth picking up and giving Societies a try. I know it's been panned by the critics and most people here hate it, but I sometimes like games that the majority hate. I'll probably install it on the weekend and see what it's like.

My system is fairly old, so I'm not sure if it will run well, but like I said for $17 who cares?

You know, I think the biggest reason people were down on Societies was simply that it was called "Sim City" which led them to expect a continuation of what SC4 was.  If they had just called it something else and not tried to sell it to rabid SC4 fans it probably would have done fine.  Alfter all, you don't hear lots of hate for Tropico 3 because it's too simplistic or cartoony!

I'm going in to Societies with an expectation that it is:

(1) a simulation game, and

(2) a visual game with nice graphics.

I expect it to be more along the lines of The Sims, than Simcity. The Sims is a game about building, and interacting with the things you build. It also has decent graphics. Not much replay value after you've played a couple of neighborhoods, though. (The replay value is "buy another expansion pack".) So, I expect Societies to be something similar to that, but at a city level rather than a house level. I'm not sure how much interaction there is in Societies, but I hope there's some.

Simcity has always been a game about traffic simulation. There's a bit more to it than that, but 90% of it is all about managing traffic. (A lot of people use the NAM traffic capacity cheats, so I don't really understand the point of Simcity if you do that. Perhaps it's just scaling the game up by a factor of 10 or something, but personally I think huge cities are very ugly.) I don't expect Societies to be about traffic management.

I'm a Simcity junkie; I've owned every Simcity game since the first one came out... oh probably almost 20 years ago! (I loved every one except SC3000.) But I like most simulation games, and some of those would bore most people to sleep. For example, I got a lot of enjoyment from SimEarth, but that was probably a horrible game from most people's perspectives.

Will I be disappointed or pleased by Societies? I don't know, but I'll post back later.

After trying out Simcity Societies: Destinations for a couple of days, I don't think it's a bad game. It's certainly different than Simcity 4, and I can understand why some don't like it. It feels more like The Sims 2 in its design. While I don't think it's anywhere near the quality of either of those games (certainly not Simcity 4), it does have its merits.

It seems like it implements the "sim" level of a city in the way that Simcity 4 never was able to get right. I never use the My Sims feature of Simcity 4 anymore, because it's a waste of time. But it is interesting to see the stuff that goes on in Societies at the street level, and there's a lot of impact by your city on the residents that live there.

There are many things I don't like about it:

- I don't think there's a way to filter buildings already in the city (though there a nice way to do it before you plop them). This is lacking in Simcity too, though.

- There's no route query from the building level. You have to select an individual sim to see where he works. But you don't get at the sims inside their homes, so it's really a matter of randomly choosing sims on the street.

- It is a graphics pig. Turning off shadows helps a lot, but you need a decent video card to play this game.

- Building bases don't level along slopes. You get a flat base on every one, and it looks a bit awkward.

- There's no "zoom way out" option, so you can lay out your city roads easily. You can only zoom out maybe as far as level 3 in Simcity 4.

- In strategy mode, even the easiest level is pretty hard (much harder than anything in Simcity 4). They probably should have a "dummy" level in strategy mode. (In normal mode, everything is way too easy, so it's more of a sandbox play at that point.)

- Carbon pollution. Why do game designers always put this eco-crap into games?

I do love the scenic views in the game. Although it's a graphics pig, it offers amazing views of your city, especially at sunset and sunrise.

I wouldn't pay full price for this game, but for $17 I think I'll get my money's worth.

I do like SCS for several reasons:

1) I like the 3D and the awesome graphics, including the freecamera.

2)Some of the buildings are modeled after real buidlings(E.G:the epic tower is modeled after the chysler buidling), so you can sort of model a real city

3)The carbon pollution is great, because it makes the game more realistic

4) The action/ability things for buidlings help/hurt your city, making it more fun!!

in my mind SCS compard to SC4 ....pros with scs grate gafics, came play it self is amzing cons with scs takes to much memory, game lacks of a "city building simulation or un realistic"

pros with sc4... challenging yet simple, too much to do aka mass transit , doesn't take much memory works with other cities

cons with sc4... NOT recommended for beginners vary time consuming/addicting some building are out of scale

I am not afraid to push that glowing red button

I think it ruins the whole experience, that you have to plop all the buildings.

It is possible to mod in larger maps.

I just got the game. I wasn't planning on purchasing it, but The SimCity Box was only $20 and it included SCS. So why not?

I will go into it with an open mind. I will forget everything I know about SimCities 1 to 4 and think of it as an entity all it's own. Looking forward to it. 4.gif

False advertising: watch?v=1ZUsWy5kG20

That is what made me buy the game in the first place.

"The possibilities are endless!... uh, actually, make that about... Six" ... yeah, EA had the illusion of choice down to a tee.
