A tribute to the generic looking city

Welcome to my new CJ called "A tribute to the generic looking city". I guess the name is quite self-declarative, but I will explain further why I chose this direction.

I live in a city which has no fancy landmarks, huge skyscrapers, picturesque views or ancient buildings. Sure, there are some old buildings, but generic dull boring 60/70's buildings stand in majority. The rural areas, though green and pleasant are also somewhat dull and boring. In addition, there are other aspects of "less successful" elements of city buildings that I think should be incorporated e.g poor traffic planning, highways going right through city centres, ugly buildings next to more fancy buildings etc. Please note that I am not trying to convey you with any political statement nor proving a point. My aim is to cover reality seen from my perspective.

As you all know, SC4 is a game with limitations. In real life, you would not come across a R$ small house next to a R$$$ mansion. Rather than hopelessly trying to correct these flaws I try to accept them, which is a challenge for a perfectionist like me.

When it comes to custom content, I've tried to keep it down because a lot of  custom content makes the game unstable (at least for me). Of course, there will be some custom content since most cities have their great or dreary characteristics.

Well, enough of my pretentious cheesy words. Let's get to the pictures, yes?

I've used the Whitefall map by Shadow Assassin. It's great and I do recommend it. Here's the current state of the region.

Now, we're going to take a closer look at the community of Ashbere, with around 5000 residents. Situated inland with no mayor towns nearby, it's quite dull and boring really. A small lake provides a nice break to the surrounding farmland.

Overview of the community.

Main street Ashbere. The main road goes goes right through Ashbere creating a barrier. Even though the traffic situation results in great danger to pedestrians there probably won't be any improvements in the near future.

A texture mill provides most of the jobs in Ashbere, even though the factory has been exposed to several cutbacks lately.

Ashbere's only landmark is the small church. With inspiration from old Scandinavian design it brings a unique touch to the community.

Well I hope you enjoyed the pictures. Also, keep in mind that English is not my mother tongue so there might be some flaws.

It's not boring! I like it. The region looks like a very nice one. I like the way you do the farms. That's how I do them too! I see you've got plans for the region. The unconnected highway bridge is a clue, and I look forward to seeing how you progress with it!

There are some flaws with your English, but not many so don't worry! I've always been impressed by how good Scandanavian people's English is! Most are better than me!

Very... generic.

However, please resize your pictures to 800 x 600. To find out how, look at the stickied thread about it at the top of the CJ section.

The texture mill is just further proof that he's accepting the limitations in SimCity 3.gif

Mind me asking what trees are you using? I've used (and hated) God/Mayor Mode Trees and yours don't look like mine, if that's what you used.

Also, what are you using that allows roads and streets, with dirt roads for your rurals?
