I would really like to see you guys get a desert terrain working. Maybe we could have some kind of a mod too, like to snow capped, but instead, incorporating desert into areas of dryness.

I was acctually playing with Teirusu's snow textures yesterday to see if i could maybe convert that to a desert terrain mod but my fshman isnt working to well so i didnt get very far and anyway i wasnt to happy with my textures. But i bet that Teirusu has already been thinking about this too so lets all let him pop in here and see what he thinks.

I'm in favor of this. Something that changes from sand to rocky desert in elevation. (Think Tatooine from the first Star Wars movie)

A desert terrain mod would be cool. I would definately download it. So Teirusu is working on it? I thought he may be.

Once I finish the Beach Mod then update the Arctic/Snow-Capped Modd this will be my next project. But, like I mentioned in the Beach Mod thread, it be nice if you guys could provide some airplane/satellite shots of deserts. I could do it myself but it be faster if I had some help!

...That and I'm lazy. 2.gif

Teirusu, don't chuck that color set just yet! It looks somehow mediterranean to me....o.k., it doesn't look like any real place on earth, at least nowhere common, but it's a nice scheme, very olive drab and khaki.

I must agree, that looks pretty darn good for a first shot.  <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/6.gif>

It looks pretty good. Maybe if these are good enough maybe you should make a terrian color kit of the ones leading to the desert. To tell you the truth, it reminds me of roasting marshmallows over a fire and they are perfectly toasted to a light brown.

Mmmm....looking good Teirusu. :D More sandy at the lower elevations though...it looks a tad too dark.

I'm curious about something. You tweaked around with flora for a while....do you think it would be possible to add cacti and change the scrub brush flora to match this terrain? Maybe change all the trees to either be palm or cacti?

Unfortunetly mine never made it to the game so no pics to show. And again all i did was use photoshops variation tool to change about 4 of the textures from your artic pack. I got the textures made before i left for break and i never came back to them. But your doing great so i dont need to. I think mine was getting to red anyway so no big deal. But your current stuff looks alot like venus or maybe the badlands of south and north dakota and wyoming.

I heard you mention Photoshop 8 somewhere, Joerg.  <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/6.gif>  When's it coming out?  <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/9.gif>

Sure DM, if you or anyone else can build me the correct models I can put them in game! If you want Mayor-Mode trees, just give me 3 batches of S3D files. One for each stage of the tree's growth.

If you want God-Mode trees, I need 5 batches of S3D files, one for each clump of trees. Generally, the first clump is just one tree then the number of trees increases from there.

P.S. Photoshop 8 is actually called Photoshop CS and yes it is already out.

Funny, that's the part that I really like about this scheme. The lower elevations look like some scrub or seagrasses while the upper areas look like drying clay. While talking about various shades of green, has anyone else been bothered that low-density low-wealth houses have a mismatched and ugly shade of green for all their lots? I don't mind building trailer-parks, but that shade of green conflicts heavily with the default terrain green.

Keep up the great work Teirusu

I think the terrain green should match the texture for low-density low-wealth houses. Unkept grass shouldn't be that green.

I guess I lived in southern Arizona too long. There's no such thing as unkept green grass around here. Most of the yards are some shade between yellow and green.

You guys really like it then, huh? Alright, but first tell me if this looks better.

And snow-capped.

Someone once asked for a Mars-like red terrain and this would probably fit the bill pretty nicely.

Mars may be a little bit redder, but that is perfect for reddish deserts. I like these new ones you've made. I can't wait until you put them up for download.

Don't have grass by the water's edge.  I would want to make a desert that's not mountainous and it would be impossible with this because if I had a flat, low region it would be grass.  Just get rid of the green part alltogether.  Why should sand only be further up mountains?

Teirusu the color scheme in the last pictures looks nice. Sort of reminds me of the chapparal/mediterranean climate found in Southern California, Italy and Greece. It looks like you could release a couple of different terrain mods and players will really be able to select climate. Living in the Arizona desert, I can definately say the grass on the low levels needs to be nixed for a desert mod, instead it should be replaced with a light brownish sand color. Deserts, except where man adds water as in metro-Phoenix, do not have grass.

Oh this won't be considered the Desert Terrain mod, I'm just releasing it because people seem to like it. I promise the desert terrain mod will be much more desert-like. 2.gif
