Hey! It's been a long while since I last posted here. Even though I stopped releasing BATs to the STEX ages ago, I never lost my passion for 3d modeling. As a result I decided to open a website dedicated to 3d design. I'm happy to announce that The 3D Resource has officially opened!

Most of you are probably wondering what this site is. Some of the newer members on ST might not even know who I am and why they should care about this site. So let me explain.

Recently, I started playing around in the BAT trying to get to know the software a little deeper than previously. As a result, I decided to create several video tutorials, introducing new modelers to the BAT and to the general 3d world. One thing led to another and before I knew it I was creating a lot amount of content for a brand new site which I decided to open. That site is The 3D Resource.

The site's primary goal is to help members, both new and advanced, learn how to create successful high quality models in the 3d application they are using. The site provides users with site created video tutorials and a section where any member can submit a simple tutorial either video or written of there own.

So feel free to join the newly formed 3d community which is still growing and producing new highly useful quality content.

The site is good, although I find that registration is required for many features of the site.

This looks like it may become a great resource, especially for someone like me who's just discovered the BAT! I just registered and had a quick look round, and i'm impressed. I look forward to seeing the resource grow!

Hello Superstar,

I know your work, so it's great to see you back! You and I both know how difficult Gmax and 3DsMax can be for some of us. This is a super idea.

I have been campaigning for Turbo Squid for quite awhile now and it would be stupendously wonderful help, if you could partner up with them. The place is dead this summer.

A lot of us at Turbo Squid suspect that one guy is running the whole show and BrowserIce is the only moderator. Poor guy suffers with the same issues over and over, day in day out. Your website concept is exactly what budding GA's would need. Your website is what TS needed to do a long, long, L-O-N-G time ago and never has. I see big things with this site Superstar.

I'll go and check it all out today and thank you for the link.

.......de da deeee......dum de doooo....meh?! OH!

Superstar, You really and truly are a superstar! This is it! This is sheer paradise for Gmax!!!!!

It's bad to waste space on ten exclamation points, but dang friend, you have accomplished what others should be ashamed they haven't done properly. You really need to partner up link in with Turbo Squid. Browser Ice will smother you in hugs, for this obvious rescue from confusion and endless loops of the same nonsense! I am serious man, the very frst video for Gmax made me tingle with excitement!!!!!

It's bad to bump into things, but I am slightly, but legally blind, I swear.10.gif

This should really go in other forums. This would allow new Mayors to see, if they would like to create content for their cities.

It was buried awfully quick in the BAT Discussion forums.

I signed up and got to watching vidz, right away.

WOW! I can make all sorts of shapes! I finally understand how to scale this stuff for the game! The help The3DResource has given me, has been tremendous already!

Just an idea, maybe get a few more entries here than at other sites...

rules are simple... model must contain 500 poly's or less, be creative...

my own submission will follow

I highly encourage people to participate and if you feel it's out of your league, just come by to check out what we create and vote on which you feel looks best!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your support.

I would just like to announce here that anyone is welcome to upload a video sessions of his own to the site. It can simply consist of the user recording himself modeling. A narrative is not compulsory, so that creating videos is a breeze.

On this page the recommended software is listed, for both recording and editing. Some addition tips and rules are stated as well.

    Enjoy!

I think it would be prudent to have some sort of discussion prior to actually making tutorials. There are couple of reasons for that. First of all some tutorials may just happen to be same or very similar to already existing (even in Max itself) And second... well here it is a thing of applicability... I mean to BAT. Of course I understand that it isn't just about the bat, but still it would be good to at least tell if and how does it work or NOT working with BAT and various versions of MAX.

For instance, this Jason's lighting rig and generally night view has new severe limitations in already MAX2008 - night basically doesn't work with anything but Scanline. So Mighty Goose it would be good if you make little review of different ways to implement this sort of lighting that would be appropriate (working) in different versions of MAX.

SimFox- I wholly I agree with your statement here and on The 3d Resource. People can get confused or frustrated by watching videos without knowing exactly what the meaning of every step is. However, note that those videos are categorized as user created tutorial/modeling sessions. Obviously, narrated tutorials with explanations are superior to plain modeling videos. In order to encourage others to show and share their modeling methods without an immense amount of effort (and trust me, narrated video tutorials demand lots of time), the user videos section is open to narrated and non-narrated vids.

I believe that watching people model is beneficial, both for the creator and the viewers as they can share tips with one another on the specific video. In the worst case scenerio, if a user does not understand part of the process he can seek assistance by commenting on the video or by PMing the creator.

You suggested a prudent idea. It would indeed be beneficial to have a thread in which people can discuss what they are creating, and thus prevent members from working on a video which has already been uploaded. Users can state in their submission the contents of the video and what applications/versions they apply to.
