Hello all! I have a question that needs to be answered

Ok You know that I love my CJ and everything but I am torn between changing the landscape of it. I just feel that my city is a bit unrealistic becuase there is no water to make the CJ more pleasing. You kinda get what I am talking about. It's too flat and the sprawl is somewhat unrealisitc and it looks horrable beaucse it's all grid. I am also running into another problem with my city and that the tiles. All the tiles in my region are large so I have populations of 65,000 and it's 75% filled in and I can;t see to be able to fill in the remaining 25% of that tile. I think it's a problem in my opion and I don't have the time to sit there and wiat for sims to move in. The map I might be using  is the one below:

    https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=17661

I am still going to use Halifax if I change the landscape and maybe move it to Canada(thinking between Toronto and Ottawa)

So what do you guys think?????

I am really looking forward to your answers!

Well, let's have a moment of silence for the deceased...

    ...

So, the new downtown looks fabulous. Great job with the rebuilding efforts. I'm glad they wasted no time in getting everything back up and working.

The current Halifax has problem (ex, the downtown-sprwal transition) but I think the problems can be easily fixed. If you get really impatient waiting for stuff to grow, you can always plop to fill the tiles in/increase demand for other tiles.

    I don't want Halifax to leave the Midwest, it's Flint's greatest ally 15.gif .

If you want you could restart it, but just mess with the landscape a little. Add some more rivers, some lakes, rolling hills etc. I would also focus more on Transportation, especially rail, and river traffic. Then add a metro system the area, like a Tram, a historic tram even.

And for the sprawl and such, just add more parks, and go with a Mix of Grid, and Randomness. You don’t want the road system to be just bad and confusing, but you also want it to be interesting.

Which speaking of Transit again, try using RHW for some of your more suburban area's, and a sunken highway even for the most dense areas. Also try adding Spaces between Suburbs, like Forest reserves, large parks, even small farms, and area’s that are just empty with tree’s and nature etc.

Just some suggestions for you 9.gif

But I want a bay next to downtown.

I would like to try a different approch to my suburbs beacuse grid looks horrible exept when it's in downtown.

phoenix7 and NMUSpidey: Thanks for the comments and help

Look I need more opinons on this matter

    everything is welcomed

Nick: You are still an ally regardless of where Halifax is!

I just kinda like to start over and focus more on sprawl BUT with more planning involved

You really love that Fairbanks map...

But the decision should really be yours to make. While the commenters do make alot the difference in a CJ, what really counts is the maker of it. Sometimes, you might want to start over. But just consider what you want in your "new cj/map" and what you don't like in Halifax currently. When I decided to ditch Skagit County, I considered what I didn't like, and that with the combination of being excited with my new region made my decision for me.

You do have a tough decision, cause Halifax is great and all but what you want to improve is more landforms and planning, which is virtually impossible to correct one a CJ is started.

    Hope that helped,

I guess I could go either way... but if I must choose, I say move it. I'd love to see what you do with a more dynamic landscape. Personally, I love making harbor cities. As for the recent activity in Halifax... awesome development. MSG looks a little out of place in uptown... but I imagine the neighborhood will develope further as well. Nice work, Greekman.

Well it's not my decision Greek, it's yours.

But I will say this, though interesting landscapes are very nice a fun to work with. They do get boring, and quite annoying after awhile. From Flint experience I can tell you that I wish I made it less Mountainous, Since Making parks, transit systems, airports.....good looking downtowns is all very hard for my area. Just my final 2 cents, in the end ill support whatever decision you make 2.gif

Im sorry for the great loss your city had to go trough. Its a very nice memorial you have there and the city seems to recover very quickly your downtown area is very impressive.

There are several things to take into consideration when you're deciding whether to move Halifax. The biggest thing, IMO, is continuity. You've got a great story going on in Halifax as it stands now, and I think readers appreciate having a story that flows smoothly, as yours does pretty well. Starting over is an opportunity to improve your city-building, as I know from experience, but making your readers start from scratch as well might cost you.

Then there's the issue of landscape. True, Nebraska is a mostly flat, landlocked state with a dearth of large lakes, which makes for a boring landscape. But that's what makes it easy to build on. I can't tell you how much trouble I've had with expanding Nyhaven now that its suburbs are out in some very hilly areas. However, if you want that challenge, don't let me stop you.

You raise a couple of points about how you've built Halifax - you're not happy with the sprawl or the grid. However, both are very common in flat areas like the Great Plains, since there's plenty of room to build. I would, however, suggest building a kind of medium-density "buffer zone" between downtown and the suburbs, since that's also common.

Regardless of your choice, I'll support you and keep reading Halifax. You have my support!

Urgh... I've put this off because I haven't known what to say. Greek, I'd say don't move it, but rather expand it to include the new area, as if it were a territorial possession of Halifax. I think moving the city at this point will cause complications... many AFDES-related, especially considering the high speed rail line projected to connect with you...

Thanks for all the great comments! Everyone has very interesting suggestions and ideas! I am lovin it!

If i do move Halifax I was thinking of Ohio or Michigan instead of Canada

I am still questions on moving the city but I would like a harbor town.

don't get me wrong I love Halfax and all I think I am much better with a harbor town setting

I will see if I can get an update for this Halifax this weekend

Hey can you help me look for a good map

somethink thats hilly and near a bay not a river

the last map you suggested is a pretty good map, but if you were to change you might really enjoy the first one you suggested. i am using that map to build my nations capital on and it is just great fun to work with. a little custom terraforming of the bays and you really can make it go far! but, if you were looking for something a little less dramatic, you latest choice woilc be great, good for a coastal town along lake erie or something (if you move halifax to ohio). speaking of which, i would just like to point out that Halifax, Ohio doesn't sounds nearly as good as Halifax Nebraska

Hey, I'm looking forward to the City of Champions!

Just a few tips: When You build Downtown, don't forget to make it realistic Highrise/midrise transition, and also you should let there be something to do there besides attend sports games.

    Also don't forget the parking!

Make plenty of suburbs, and fill them with winding roads. I wish you success on Halifax Reloaded.

I like that map, though I do have one question. Mind putting the city on my fictional 6th great lake? That would mean the city would either be in Iowa or Missouri. Which you wouldn't have to edit the area too much, since Flint is a very hilly area anyway, which the most would probably just be some changes on the waterline...which i dont really know if we need anyway.... 3.gif I love the map and the plan by the way.

That map looks great! Good luck. I think that is a good spot for the airport.

BTW; Why apologize to Philly? I know they were throwing around the possibility of calling Philly the City of Champions... but only if the Eagles won the super bowl. They were eager to do so since Pittsburgh has been known as the City of Champions ever since 1979. (actually 1980 because the super bowl for the '79 season was in 1980 of course.) The Pirates won the World Series in '79. And since I am on the subject. Pittsburgh was much more deserving of the name then than Philly is now. For instance, the Phillies haven't won a series since the early 80's, and the Eagles, he he, well they are the Eagles. In the 70's the Buccos had 2 titles, and the Steelers had 4. Because of all of this, your apology should be directed about 300 miles east. 4.gif

To conclude my 500th post on ST, I'll simply say

    Go Halifax!

EDIT... yeah 300 miles east... out in the ocean. Nice one Muck. Not my first boner, and likely not my last. 34.gif

    Congrats on the Trixie!
