I was curious about gasoline prices around the world. I had an email from a friend currently on Okinawa who reported the price to be 177 yen per liter (US$ 6.41/gallon). OUCH!

Here's what I saw in my cross-border journey today (14 miles one way, so not long)...

Prevailing Charlotte, NC price.... $3.95/gallon

Right across the border in South Carolina (much lower gas taxes)...

Fort Mill, SC.... $3.85/gallon

Rock Hill, SC.... $3.53/gallon

Guess where *I* will be filling up!

So, how about it? What's your rate these days?

So... How far is Rock Hill, SC from where you live? I've heard a good deal about people driving a hundred miles for cheaper gas and I wonder how much gas it cost to get them there in the first place.

Gas here in Toronto isn't too shabby at all, by Canadian standards: $1.25 per liter. I can live with that, no prob. 4.gif Particularly since I fill my tank once every month or two on average.

in my hometown, Darlington, UK the cheapest unleaded petrol is 113.9p per litre, $8.50 per gallon, or diesel 131.9p per litre or $9.77 per gallon.

but even back in 1999 when oil was just $16 a barrel unleaded petrol still cost 70p per litre, back then with exchange rates to the dollar in 1999 we were paying $5-$6 a gallon.

weve always been ripped off here in the UK! 15.gif

$3.74 for Regular ($4.69 for Diesel) at my nearest filling station in rural east central Arkansas.

Regular is $3.59  ($4.55 for Diesel)  at the nearest major metropolitan locations in downtown Little Rock.

Prices have been falling very slightly almost every day for nearly 2 weeks.

OK, there's something mathematically wrong with this post here.  There's no way that can possibly be right.  How are you getting a gallon of anything costing more than four times the cost of the liter when it takes less than four whole liters to make a gallon? 47.gif

EDIT: OK, the math makes sense when you're using Imperial gallons.  Might want to specify that next time since the word gallon usually brings to mind the idea of the US gallon.

Ah, that would be the Imperial gallon.

I'm going to question what exactly the point of converting to those is since the only point of converting liters to gallons is so that Americans don't have to do the conversion to understand it. Therefore it only makes sense to do that using US gallons. In the UK you use liters anyway, so you help no one by converting to Imperial gallons (which is basically an obsolete unit).

I mean, Your unleaded gas also costs a bit shy of 4 cents per cubic inch, but it doesn't help anyone understand it better to say that.

Anyways, just to throw the number out there: 1 US gallon is 3.785 liters.

EDIT: Hold on a tad. There's another thread just like this. What the hell are we doing here?

I read somewhere that gas prices will multiply by 1.5x every 2 years. and if this trend continues then we will have 29 dollar gas per gallon by 2020... (that is estimated with $3.85 x 1.5 as the main numbers)

Dont worry it's only going to get worse.

Hydrogen is one of the answers though.

yes lets get a mod to merge these two. or just deleate this one.

just a topic to find where the price of a particular item/thing is the cheapest and most expensive?

I will give you an example, I will go for something simple, the price of a litre of diesel

    I live in Darlington, UK

cheapest price for a litre of diesel -   128.9p or $9 a gallon  at  total oil

most expensive -                                  132.9p or $9+ a gallon at bp oil

You can do petrol/gas prices aswell if you wish in other areas of the world.

    thank you and please post

Diesel is over $5 a gallon everywhere around here.

Regular gas ranges from about $4.40 to $4.70 depending on which station you go to.

Then again, the New York area is known for having everything be more expensive than the national average. In particular, this is southwestern Connecticut. Gas is a bit cheaper in New York since the tax on it is lower. In New Jersey you may even find it for below $4 a gallon in some places.

And just for the record, 1 (US) gallon is exactly 231 cubic inches. Since 1 inch is exactly 2.54 centimeters, that means that a gallon is 3785.41 cubic centimeters.

Or in other words, 1 gallon = 3.78541178671 liters.

For our purposes, you can just use 3.785 as the conversion factor. Already an extra significant figure on there compared to what prices are.

I won't go into currency exchange rates since those change with time and I don't feel like tracking down the latest ones right now.

About USD 2,62 / l in Norway, or ca. USD 9,92 / gallon. In relative terms it's actually a tad cheaper today than it was last year. Diesel is a bit cheaper since it's less taxed

Sure, anyone can name names, but what does it help? You aren't charged that much; in Europe (at least Northern) the petrol stations make their profits from hot dogs and groceries, not the petrol.

And for exchange rates, go to xe.com.

According to twincitiesgasprices.com, the lowest price in the Twin Cities area is $3.48 in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. The most expensive is $3.99 in Roseville, Minnesota. Most of the cheapest stations are in the North Metro, while most of the priciest stations are in the South Metro (I get to have the fun of living on this side of the metro).
