Must have mods?

So, I just started looking at all the different mods, and not knowing much everything looks daunting.

So, are there any must have mods that you need to basically make the game better?

Like, any massive high res texture replacements, or game fixers etc? Something that just makes the game a whole lot better?

Thanks.

1. NAM- make sure you view the readme before installing

2. A good terrain mod- Columbus terrain mod is great!

3. Water mod- Pegasus has some good ones

4. SAM- for different types of streets

Tip- read through some of the city journal's. Gives you lots of great ideas. I like Anduin Valley Revisited in the City Journal hall of fame section. Peg's seaports are great and just browse through the STEX.

I know of three really good mods: simmars which changes the entire game, super demand mod, and of course the network addon mod.

I just looked at NAM, and there are so many different traffic plugins for it. Which one will give me the best realism, standard, A, or B?

Also, Pegasus has so many mods47.gif

There are no "must have" mods.. you can play the game fine with none.. most might suggest the NAM.. others various custom lots.. others civic enhancements (schools, fire, police etc.. ) but its all personal preference.. well you DO need the updates from EA.. other than that its perfectly playable with no mods..

To add on to the suggestions already mentioned, I would say the industry quadrupler is a good one to have. It reduces the amount of industry you need by providing more jobs, which I feel makes the game a lot more realistic. The hole digging lots are also great because they help you make sunken traffic routes (check out the Omnibus for more info).

The NAM is a must have mod.  It pretty much adds a whole'nother Rush Hour expansion pack to SC4.  It is the primary mod in my opinion.

Secondary mods include the RHW, SAM and CAM, depending on how you use them.  Most only use one or two of the three.  I myself only use the RHW.

Tertiary mods are any additional mods out there like terrain mods, water mods, and gameplay mods.

    I hope this makes sense!

My mods that are core elements of my gameplay:

    Network Addon Mod April 2008

    Rural Highway Mod v20

    Street Addon Mod v3 Beta

    Radical Ordinance Mod

    Super Demand Ordinance

Additional Mods and Lots that I find Useful:

    Realistic Water Mod

Transparent Ploppable Water (on the LEX)

    PEG Pond Kit

    PEG Stream Kit

    Cycledogg Tree Mod

And there are hundreds of others that are useful. There are terrain mods, automata additions, traffic generators, slope mods, and add-ons to the RHW.

I would advise that you "shop around" the STEX and LEX and download things that catch your interest. If you don't like it, you can always uninstall it. There's no risk involved.

    Follow your interests.

If you're aiming for realism I heartily recommend the BRF Tunnel and Slope Mod.

Everyone else has already named what I would recommend.

For more realism, you will want to use whichever gives you high capacities and slightly longer travel distances, and you will want to have Improved Pathfinding. If you have a very good computer you can use Perfect Pathfinding.

I personally don't like to use anything other than higher capacities and improved pathfinding. This game was very clearly balanced around the default distances that sims can travel, and by increasing a sim's travel distance, while realistic, renders highways and trains pretty useless.

    Hey,

I must be such a ***** 3.gif I can't seem to find the "Columbus Terrain Mod". I've seen a few screenshots around the forums and they look awesome.

Could someone Please help me out?

How very true.  It's all up to personal preference. Many will suggest the NAM and I also use it. It is definitely a good one to have. PEG has a lot of great custom content for waterfronts.
