Hello and welcome to my first CJ!

First I would like to take a few lines to introduce myself because I am quite new to those forums.  Simcity was the first real computer game I really loved, and I just rediscovered the joy of playing SC4 after having found this site.  Simtropolis made me dig in my pile of CDs and re-install this special game that I had previously not seized all the potential.  All the downloadable stuff here simply bring this game to a new life.

I hesitated a long time before starting this CJ, probably because all the cities on this forum are so beautiful that my creations are very pale in comparaisons.  I know that it will not be the best city ever but I hope it worth a visit.  I also apologize in advance for my mediocre English, it is not my language.

Enough of this now.  Before going to the city I'd like to point out that this is going to be a sci-fi CJ.  Be warned.  However you probably already considerated this before clicking on a CJ called 'Terra 4016' made by a total stranger.

-------

arrivalqn0.jpg

Welcome to Terra!  I don't think this city have to be presented- because you already know it.  Basically, Terra is YOUR city.  You have probably already understood that this city/planet is no less than our planet in a distant future, in a world where hundreds of other planets are colonized by an embitious mankind.  Your main questions are now probably: 'What happened during thoses 2008 (!) years?' and 'How Earth is looking two millenias after I am reading thoses lines?'.

The answer to the first question will be revealed in due time.  Thoses 2008 years were very rich in history, and it would not be good to tell it all in one piece.  Details of it will be told later, but it is possible to speak about the major events without spoiling anything....

The Man was probably the first intelligent animal to live on Earth.  Evolving from the apes, it took millions of year before it reached its intellectual maturity.  Millenias ago it invented writing and it was the beginig of a new era for the whole Mankind.  Slowly but surely its technical knowledge evoluted.  By 1800 the man has already explorated much of the planet.

A drastic change was operated in those crucial years.  The Industrial Revolution in England was determinating in the evolution of the mankind.  In a century, the world passed from an agricultural-dominated society to an industrial one.

industrialjm3.jpg

Technologies improved faster and faster with the opening of new infrastructure such as the railroads wich improved the communications between the different cultures.  Every year it seemed that the planet was becoming smaller and smaller as the population was growing.

In the large and prosperous cities room quickly became rare and thus the mankind begined to build vertically.  Soon the largest metropolis of this world were easily reconizable trough their characteristic skylines.

artdecofn3.jpg

But the population was still growing and space becoming even more rare.  Cities were conquering land over wilderness.  Towers were builded higher and higher.  But a day the situation became critical as the world was begining to starve due to the lack of farmlands.  Too few forests were left to regenerate the poluted air.  Too litle water was left for the thirsty mankind.  In the less favored countries the situation became truly disasterous with millions of refugees attempting to cross the borders by force.  Cities and nations were ravaged by civil wars.

destructionzn7.jpg

This situation has to end.  In the latest years of the 22th century an international emergency meeting was organizated*.  The idea of colonizing new worlds to solve the problems of the world was adopted, even if it meant that the last resources of the planet were to be eaten by this desesperate project.  The project, however, was a success.  The world was once again free from overcrowding- for a time.  As centuries passed the Earth became the center of a vast empire including hundreds of colonized planet.  Its population reached new peaks, but with the new technologies discovered a visionary system of weather-control was builded all over the planet.  Mountains were cut down to make room to further constructions.  Sea level diminished but this tendency was stoped in time by, again, the discovery of a method to fabricate water from nothing.

And thus Mother-Earth - or Terra, as it was now officially called - became a continet-spawning city, an ecumenopolis, covering more than the 2/3 of the planet.  This answer the 2nd question.

megalopoliispreviewfc9.jpg

This is the only small picture I am posting from my city.  Because its far from being even half finished, and because I want to keep some surprises for later.

---

*This part of the timeline is similar to the one of Shadow_prophet's excellent CJ, but its so far in both time and space that I didnt bothered to ask him about it.  Contact me if it cause a problem, I can change it if needed,

WOW, what an ambitious project, very good idea!!! I especially like the header of your CJ, it looks really impressive. The history seems to be very realistic IMO, this could well be an alternate timeline for the future and is very likely... The concept of an entire city covering an entire planet reminds me of Star Wars- Coruscant. I like that. Mhm, I guess you already have great plans to continue your CJ. I am thinking about the rest of the species on our planet- did you find an earth-like planet to settle them in a save environment, like 'Eden' (this would be a nice idea). Well, ideas over ideas, looking very much forward to seeing more and good luck,

lucky7

Wow I was not expecting so many positive comments!  With all the big names that posted here, I will have to do my best to not deceive anybody.

    nihonkaranws: Thank you very much!

SimHoTToDDy: Thank you to, beleive me I am doing lot of efforts to write this in my best English.  The other surprises are still in construction but I hope you will like today's update.

deathtopumpkins: This will be a bit limited by the Sim City engine (no flying cars, even if it would have been awesome), but I did my best to turn this into a futuristic city.

Schulmanator: Thank you.  There will be an update today .

*Please note everyone that I have other things in my life, I will try to update every 1-2-3 days if its possible.

zelgadis: I will have to look about this league... however from what I have readed my CJ need to survive the first month, wich is still to be done.

torontotransit: Type 'Coruscant' on the STEX and you will find somes.  However my favorites are from a Japanese site I can't remember, I would like to give you the link but I can't find it again.

    Rictiovarus: Thank you!

jacqulina: Thank you very much.  You will probably find this CJ to be the exact opposite of yours- a city covering everytihing and almost no natural landscape.  However I have plans to change that.

IDS2: Thank you and welcome aboard!

Patricius Maximus:  Indeed alot can happen, all this will be revealed later.

underwearman2007:  The sea level is lower in this future, you will see it on the map I will post soon.  A bit of the history of the 'near' future will be revealed later, but this as the title indicate happens mostly two millenias later.

lucky7: Thank you for having took the time to post all this.  To tell you the truth my header was made with paint + a picture found on google.  I don't have photoshop and I am poor in graphic skills.  You guessed right, Coruscant is my inspiration.  Since the first time I saw it this city fascinated me!  You will also see about the animals and plants of the planet, what happened to them is already all tough.

Update comming *soon*, this is relative however it takes me time to write in a decent English.

    Terra 4016 AD

*Today's update is only going to be pictures from various locations around the planet, there will be no history. I am simply going to give an overview.

    ----

Being a planetary size planet doesnt mean that all of the world is covered with huge skyscrapers.  Some regions have higher density than others, somes are more rich, somes have more problems.  Overall there is some diversity, and exemples of different urban landscapes are going to be introduced today.

    ----

    parkareagk7.jpg

    The Leggen Park

This is the very popular Leggen Park.  Centuries ago it was simply a part of the beautiful North-South Axis that was linking the most prestigious buildings of the official district of Terra.  Now half of this 'axis' is covered with buildings, as less fortunate governments failed to impose urbanism laws over embitious constructors.  Some areas of greenery were isolated and are now considerated as 'parks', such as the Leggen park named after a brilland scientist.  The large monoliths in the parks are gifts from the various colonies of Earth, but many of them are now completly independent now.  As you can see on the left of this picture many of those monuments were removed, to be replaced by new construction projects.  What remain of the North-South Axis is now protected by strict laws.

    ----

The verticality of the city is stunning, but often we tend to forget that the inhabited regions also spread underground.   Much of the underground complex is used as warehouses or industrial facilities.  But sometimes, underground buildings are revealed, creating 'urban canyons'

    undergroundbd0.jpg

    Underground structures revealed

    ---

After most of the planet was covered by buildings the authorities started to loose control over their populations.  Sometimes, new devlopements turned out to be completly anarchics and were not covered by any transportation network or services such as garbage disposal.  Slums apeared.

    anarchictn9.jpg

    A slum

    ----

The exact population of Terra is unknown, as the last census took aproximatly 5 years to be finished, and by this time the gathered datas were already useless.  But one thing is sure, the demand for food and water is incredible, and the planet can't survive without importantions from other worlds.  The exports of 5 agricultural planets are entrely turned toward the Earth, wich is barely sufficient. About 1/4 of the builded regions of the planet are used to store and build all the goods needed by the insane number of inhabitants.  Even if most of the industrial sector is automated millions of peoples are still employed in it.

    industrialzl0.jpg

    An industrial sector

    ----

Far away from the slums and the industrial disctricts, the elite of the planet is living in tall skyscrapers kilometers over the noisy gound level.  The most famous sights of the planet are concentrated in a relativly small sized region far in the north.  The partial (accidentaly and naturally caused) switch of Earth's axis of rotation made the region once know as the geographical North Pole one of the most friendly of the planet, and hosted the most impressive structures ever build by the mankind.

    Very.. Massive.

Will we get to see the agricultural planets sometime?

Also, if the Terrans went to war, one of those planets being destroyed would cripple them. I'd put up a defense system myself...

This is shaping up to be a good CJ. Keep it up!

The one-month requirement is more of a guideline rather than a rule. So you may at least pop over and say hi. 4.gif

There hasn't been much activity over at the SL lately, but it tends to go in waves anyway.

Anyway, everything looks really good! You've done a good job in BAT selecting to make a futuristic city. 9.gif
