Hello there, and welcome to my third journal already. You may remember me from From Null To Now. I've improved my skills a bit further, and started a new journal, called the Grand Barony of Harroning. It is located in an undefined temperate area near the sea, and a wide river exits the land in it's centre. Firstly though, I'll show you some teasers of what's to come, in no particular order.

I used an endless array of mods, including the Columbia Terrain, Cycledoggs trees, Pegasus' pretty much everything, Xannepan's Parisian buildings Feroxx' Polish buildings and prepo's Finnish ones, Marrast's embankment, Plopmodd, Jeronij's walls, etc. etc. If you run into some building or other...well, anything really, don't hesitate to ask me about it. I don't bite often, and infections are only 35% fatal.

Normally, I'd explain something with each picture, but for now, I'll stick with being mysterious. Ooh, mysteeeeerious....

Now then, what area do you want to see more of?

This is an excellent starting. The pictures are well edited and the planning of the city is very nice. The habour, the boardwalksand the avenues are very scenic.

I'll be coming back.

I like how you've really used things like the seawall tiles, docks, etc.. etc. to their fullest potential. This will be a really good CJ.

I can't wait for, ahem, "moar"!

Manubeas: Thank you. But I'll stick to one topic at a time for now.

    Twenty20: Thanks!

Jacqulina: Always nice to hear from you.

Benedict: Thanks! Photoshop is indeed a very useful tool...

Edmonton_stinks:  That's far from every side of my cities... I've only shown the best bits of course, but I' haven't even completed everything yet...

    Callbat: Donarheim it is!

    Anarchy: Thanks!

Penguin007: You will in this update.

    Patricius Maximus: Thanks!

anik: Moar it is. I will build moar, screen moar and update moar...

    Sixcents: Thanks!

RushhourFreak: Thanks for your patronage then!

TV-VCR: Indeed. I like putting lots to uses they weren't designed for. The paths around Harroning Hall are Marrast's Embankments for instance...

Santos16: Mallorca? I'll have to look that one up...

    haup.jpg

First up, the Donarheim Old Burgh. Being the oldest city by far in Harroning, Donarheim has a great deal of architecture dating from it's heyday in the 18th and 19th centuries. Mining and trade let fortunes flow into the cities' coffers, as well as those of it's merchant families, who proceeded to build their houses in the new styles. Architects were called in from all over Europe, and as a result, the Donarheim Old Burgh, as the area is called is an eclectic and colourful mix of architecture.

    sc02x04.jpg

    sc02x08.jpg

Next, we'll look at some special features in the Old Burgh. First, we'll walk the Coronation Route, the traditional route walked by the Grand Baron of Harroning, from the Harroning Hall, where he or she swears the oath of fealty to the Barony, via the Hall of Heroes, where all Heroes of Harroning are buried to the Coronation Square, and the Coronation Temple, whose original name had been lost to time (rumor has it the original name was excised from the records...).

    sc01x04.jpg

    sc02x09.jpg

    sc02x11.jpg

    sc02x03.jpg

The Old Ministry Buildings are now in private hands, sold when the ministries outgrew the buildings and relocated. They now house a museum. The building on the left is the interior ministry, the one on the right the exterior ministry. Being a small Grand Barony, more were deemed an unnecessary extravagance.

    sc02x06.jpg

Waring Pond was once the Waring Building (and the associated city block), where the military headquarters was. It was burned down during a riot. Unfortunately, the Waring Building had stockpiled a sizable amount of a new type explosives, and the resulting blast levelled the building and so severely damaged the block that it was completely demolished. Rain filled up the hole, and the government decided to keep it as is. The military headquarters now resides elsewhere.

    sc02x05.jpg

The Ocean House and associated forest was built in the late 19th century, by a wealthy entrepeneur. It's location and vista were impressive, but the reputation it gained was even more so. The original owner died within a year of moving in, suicide. The next owner was driven insane and the last owner stayed only a week. It then remained vacant for 40 years, before the government decided to employ the ground for new buildings. However, the inspectors found that the ground was too loose to build on, and the forest was all that was holding the entire Ocean House estate together. The Ocean House, now dilapitated, is a favorite amongst famous Huanted House tours.

That looks great, very good attention to detail with the trees and all.

What does the GBRF Vats serve as, agricultural center? I really like how it looks, show more of that 4.gif . How did you make those pipes seemingly move through the walls/embankments?

The use of walls and embankments is great, as well as the general mix of pragmatic older european architechture and the modern industrial facilities.

I shall subscribe to this very picturesque city journal.

Ah, the Ocean House story is quite interesting. It looks like you have put some thought into this cj, and it looks great, too! I especially like the walls around Harroning Hall. Very nice work.

Very, very, very nice! Your historic buildings are exceptionally well placed. I like the way you've used Marrast's embankments! Almost genius! I look forward to lots more.

Aking: The GBRF is still a secret. Let's just say there's a lot more to it than merely these Vats. Also, I made the pipes using Nob's water system set. It includes a pipes-piece with a long overhang.

    Rushhourfreak: Thanks!

Hunkske: The region shot will come in time. I still have a few sections to terraform before I can show you it.

Benedict: I thought of that, but I kind of like the open spaces. Makes it more impressive.

    Seemurray2: Thanks!

Bwebster82: Photoshop. It rules. Also, for nicelooking cities, I've found that having a theme works well.

    Oceanmariner: Thanks!

NMUSpidey: Thanks! Those walls are by Jeronij I think. I made two walls on top of eachother.

    Twenty20: Thanks!

    Psander5: Thank you!

This time on Harroning, the Vragerwater Docklands. With considerable history behind them, the Vragerwater Docklands is the primary harbour for Harroning. With it's agricultural-, mining- and heavy industry, in particular the Blast Furnaces on the Docks themselves, Harroning is a major exporter of these goods. As such, the Vragerwater Docklands are always busy, and well connected into the infrastructure to prevent  jams from building up.

Very nice harbour! Well put together! The land configuration with all the inlets/canals must have taken a lot of planning! Excellent job!

Excellent seaport. You just reminded me that I downloaded the PEG's warehouse barges ages ago! I've not used them yet! Great update.
