Interesting update. I think the harbour should be repaired to get some more trade going. Repairing the fort should follow, to secure the land route for the locals.

    Update: The War with Jerrartus!

When we last left Marcus, he had a difficult choice to make, on how to best prepare for the inevitable war with Jerrartus, the warlord who was becoming more belligerent. While Marcus had a contingent of soldiers under his command, Jerrartus' troops were far stronger and more numerous.

In the end the harbour was rebuilt, along with the fortress at Balliororum.

    scballio2.jpg

    scballio1.jpg

Marcus Arventianus hastily used the money raised by the increased trade to hire a few mercenries. And by a few, I mean a lot. And promptly marched off to war as soon as Jerrartus began to mobilize his troops.

    Medieval_II_screen1_large.jpg

After a vicious fight and an arduous siege, Marcus Arventianus came out on top, and Castle Culvern burned. Jerrartus' body was found on the battlefield, along with his closest underlings. The people of Culvern had no choice but to accept Marcus' rule, and the rule of Carat.

Next update we'll be travelling a massive leap forward, to the late middle ages. Thanks for watching, and good night!

    Update: 1450.

It is now the year 1450. Under the leadership of King Hinric III, a direct descendant of Marcus Arventianus, the city, now known as Carawat, is prosperous. Agricultural pursuits have augmented the trade routes to provide a great deal of wealth to the city, which has grown immensely:

    scinnesber3.jpg

    The harbour too has grown:

    scinnesber4.jpg

The fields surrounding Carawat are now covered by farms:

    scinnesber5.jpg

Meanwhile, Culvern Castle too has grown slightly. It is still a mighty fortress, but less important due to the relative peace.

    scinnesber2.jpg

Remember Innesber, the church on the rock back in 550? It is now a small monastery.

    scinnesber1.jpg

    Thank you for watching!

    Nice update. Really looks 1450-ish.

Also, I think you are the King of Historical Cities.

I also feel honored to place my 401st post here (my 400th was in my own CJ 18.gif)

All is looking good. Keep it up!

This is cool. I like the medieval style, it's really ... realistic? (can't find a good word.) Nice job.

    Goldfish: Thanks!

    Teaser:

The fort at Balliororum, now known as Bailern, is no longer relevant. It's outdated technology is unable to defend against the new gunpowder weapons that have started to appear.

Therefore, to safeguard the people of Carawat, Bailern is flattened and rebuilt, as a modern trace italienne, also known as a star fort.

1450 looks good, I quite liked the farms around the town. Nice take on a star fort, they're not easy to get right as I've learnt.

Yeah, I'm Dutch as well. I take it you borrowed your CJ title from the comic books 'Van Nul tot Nu'? 3.gif

fabsies: I still don't fully understand what you're saying, but it seems to be positive, so thanks?

Meastro444: It's not functional at all. None of these buildings actually house any people, so the grand total population of the entire region is 0.

JanYpe: Altijd leuk om nog een Nederlander op het internet tegen te komen. En ja, daar had ik het inderdaad vandaan.

    Smarty: Thanks

Waiyeap90: Conan? I suppose so. Thank you!

    Update: Sweet Sixteen (hundred)

Most of the original early medieval and dark age architecture is being replaced by the vakwerk style of housing. A new cathedral is built in the centre of town, which is now nearing the limits of it's walls...

    sccarawat1.jpg

    The harbour too is updated.

    sccarawat2.jpg

Meanwhile, on the site of the old Shrine of Apollo, a small christian monastery is built:

    sccarawat3.jpg

Culvern, meanwhile, has burst it's walls, and now contains a small shipyard.

    sccarawat4.jpg

Remember the small farming village Branselt in 550? It still exists:

    sccarawat5.jpg

Thanks for watching and good night!

I really like your journal. the story line is catchy.

somehow this is like a soap on tele => you want to know how it goes on.

What I miss is monuments of the heroic deeds of Marcus Arventianus

or the greatness of HM Hinic VI ... or some huge park complex, or an opera

or whatelse is usually placed to gain immortality for the donor.

But keep the updates coming, i'm enjoying it.

    Anarchy0029: Heh, thanks!

    Schulmanator: Thanks!

Kingofblades. Yes, but I hadn't counted on the larger size of my newer buildings. No room, I'm afraid...

    Anyway, on  to the update:

It is now 1800, and Crawat is a major centre of culture and politics. As a result, it has expanded:

    scgoss3.jpg

Indeed, the centre is now filled with massive buildings:

    scgoss2.jpg

    Yet traditional architecture persists:

    scgoss4.jpg

The port is now a primne land for wealthy merchants to set up shop:

    scgoss5.jpg

Nobles and wealthy landowners now build their estates away from the city. Goss House is a prime example:

    scgoss1.jpg

    Culvern too has expanded:

    scgoss6.jpg

    Next up, the Industrial Age!

I must say, this has been the best NEW journal for months. There is enough everything, story isn't boring and not too many cities and pictures. Only thing I fear that this will end soon? I mean, if you ruin this with updating every 5 or 10 year, this turns into a slow journal. The pace has been great for now.

But why people always build a new church in the centre? Is there a reason, because usually European churches are really, really old.

Maybe it'll be similar to Civilization turns, where it gradually decreases from 100 to 1 year between each turn? Especially now as the puzzle piece ear has ended 3.gif (no more walls to build).
