Wow, that should teach people not to listen to ipods or other music devices really high. I know this one kid on my bus that he cranks his ipod so high, that I hear the loud music (full of cuss words).

I wonder what song he was listening to when it happened ?

How ironic would it be if he was listening to Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" ?

"I will survive

as long as i know how to love

I know I will stay alive

I've got all my life to live

I've got all my love to give

and I'll survive

I will survi-Crash !

First, I hope someone is at least looking at the crash to determine a cause. Second, I highly doubt the iPod was the problem. Even if it had a small role to play, this should still be recognized as a freak accident and not something that should prompt legislation unless there is some identifiable pattern at work.

This is just rediculious. How do you not hear/see the giant hunk of metal hurtling at you!

And second, Why is the Ipod being blamed? People have the right to listen to music as loud as they want to. It's there fault if they get crushed by a helicopter! (I cannot believe I just said that...)

My house is under a path that several helicopters take day and night, so I am used to Blackhawks and Chinooks roaring overhead.  Those things are loud, even while listening to music.  And helicopters crash much slower than you'd think, they tend to fly erracticly before losing too much power.  If they guy hadn't had headphones in, up turned up so loud, he could have heard it coming and moved, most chopper's aren't too big to dodge.

....this basically confirms something I've always said.

I don't have an iPod or any such other mp3 player. I have no use for one. All my music is on my computer (and it's a laptop, so I can take it and set it up anywhere), and if I'm in a situation where I can't be using my laptop, such as walking around, or driving, I don't want to be listening to music- I want to have my ears free so I can be aware of my surroundings!

Yeah.

I saw something about this on the news. Apparently the helicopter was flying very low to check power lines when it crashed (I think it might have hit something, I'm not too sure).

Well i tend to listen to my iPod nano quite often. There is a feature that allows you to set the max volume level and i set it at about midway the full volume level. Besides if i turn up the volume more, the earbuds start buzzing. I listen to it so I can hear both the music and surroundings. Maybe not people talking but i can hear buses, trucks, airplanes, cars, trains......etc.

Like how others before me have asked...

a helicopter? Why worry about the headphones when being struck by a helicopter is an uncommon event!
