I think we can make 100,000 by next year

“The American city should be a collection of communities where every member has a right to belong. It should be a place where every man feels safe on his streets and in the house of his friends. It should be a place where each individual's dignity and self-respect is strengthened by the respect and affection of his neighbors. It should be a place where each of us can find the satisfaction and warmth which comes from being a member of the community of man. This is what man sought at the dawn of civilization. It is what we seek today.”

I recon 40,000 members is the most Simtropolis will ever get. Any more is just way too much, especially 100,000,

Hmmm, only with corporate funding or sponsorship from EA or Maxis, but there's no way we can get 100,000 after only a year. Unless of course ALL other forums blew up and Maxis released loads of SC stuff and gave away lappies...

Simcity 4 provided something around 13.000 members and Rush Hour 7.000.
That would take 11 1/2 more expansion packs.

With EA as publisher, that doesn

Simtropolis needs to offer something big that no other site has. I dont know what though. Maybe ST could be a site for all Sim games. If ST offered something unique, it would attract lots of people. Maybe if the modders got together to make a huge update to sc4, lots of ppl would come.
Why don't we advertise ST more. What words do u search for to get Simtropolis? Try putting it into lots of search engines and making it available on more words.(not just simtropolis).....maybe EA, sim city............etc. Advertise Simtropolis on billboards if you have the money! Ask simcity.com if they will make ST more known, then we might get to 100,000. but at the moment, sorry. Its just not happening.

Look forward to WORLD DOMINATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!21.gif22.gif2.gif

How many copies of Sim City 3000 have been sold? 2 millions? 2.5?
If SC4 is as successful, then, perhaps 1/20 owners might become a member. 100.000 is a maximum. We might reach it in 3 years, or never reach it as this site is only in english.

this site would take months to translate even into French, German and Spanish. just think, with navigation bwing image based, so new images would have to be made.

Why mess with a good thing? This is a nice little "boutique" site that does an extraordinary job catering to it's members. There's an awful lot of bang for the buck here and I'm sure we will continue to grow but this is one instance where I'm not down with urban sprawl.

Yes, I think we can. But not anytime soon, only after five or six years. Reason? Take a look at the number of people who actually post. Many come here for the LEX or Modds. Make those available to non-members, and the number of people who join will drop dramatically.

Also, only 20,000 people've joined in about 340 days. So it'd take a few years to reach that number, as the number of people follow an exponential decay model.

The population will go up quickly right after Christmas for a couple months and then dwindle off. So...maybe we'll hit 40,000 but more likely 30,000.

If we had 100,000 members we would still have money for the site becuase there would be more people to donate.

I believe it would be quite amazing to see Simtropolis having a population larger than that of my time of 33,000! 9.gif 100,000 seems a bit unrealistic I think. 1.gif

I like Simtropolis just the way it is, though even now I am feeling the population is growing at a faster rate that I would be comfortable with. Anything above 50,000 will turn this site into chaos and will overwhelm the moderators...I base my prediction on what I have seen on other sites who have grown too quickly for what is good for them.

Besides, it will require more money to support.

Simtropolis is hitting 100,000 people! its getting to be a real city! of course, i bet there are only 2000 active members, the rest probably just registered so they could download one or two things before moving on.

I guess whats so funny in this thread is that in the old part they are saying all these things need to be changed...but they haven't and the one thing they didn't know at the time was that Sim City.com would stop pretty much and SCC would go down in the summer of 2004...so when those two things happend at once Simtropolis basicly had a population bomb which whent from 20,000(december 2003) to 60,000(december 2004)..then basicly everyone got hooked and this site became the sim city site...simcty.com died due to everyone moving to here since it worked...and even when this site goes down everyone comes back because they trust this site and they are loyal...the only other place to go thats as great as this is SCC...which is basicly ST back in it's mid years...(great site btw)

Well, according to the stats on the home page, a bit more than 2000 members are active.

In the past 24 hours (as of this posting): 1,972 members were active.

In the past 7 days: 6,165

In the past 30 days: 12,691

I'd consider anyone active in the last 30 days to be a generally active member, so the number is considerably higher than 2000.

That said, maybe the active label is a broad one, and members that just download a couple of things and then never come back can slip onto the list---this is probably the case.

Anyway, I think ST will hit 100,000 members some time around the end of January.
