I think that an update for sim city 4 should be made for widescreen resolution game play.

To the best of my knowledge, SC4 supports wide screens, but in Windows, you must specify the resolution in the command line used to activate it. On a Mac, simply holding Option and/or Command at startup will allow you to choose any resolution supported by the screen attached.

Hi JamesDWho, and welcome to Simtropolis. To get widescreen play follow these instructions:

Locate the icon to SimCity 4 on your desktop.

Right click on it, and select 'Properties'

In the Target line add '-CustomResolution:enabled -r____x___' (Replace ____ with the size of your screen (in pixels). I assume you know how to figure this out 2.gif.

Any questions, reply to this topic or PM me 4.gif.

I tried that and it said it is not a valid target. What am i doing wrong?

Edit: Never mind. It worked. make sure you put a space in between what is already there and what you add in. It wont work if you do.

Also you need to turn the intro video off because it can cause problems if it is used on a custom resolution

Here is a website that explains it better, it has example pics with the diffrent resolutions.

I play Simcity 4 Deluxe at 1680x1050 on a 1900x1200 monitor, with no problems.  I have played at 1900x1200 using the command line options for custom resolutions, but I get a LOT more crashes when I zoom in or out at that resolution.

Hmmm... I am running SC4 @ 1920x1200 with a custom resolution enabled, and I don't have a problem.

Maybe these links may be able to help you out:

I run at 1280x800 and I don't have any problems.

The only thing I notice is that screenshots look slightly less skewed than gameplay.
