sorry i am somewhat of a newbie when it comes to this game, however i was wondering how you guys set up your water distribution (utility wise) throughout your cities? i am having a hard time supplieing (sp?) everything with water without taking up huge amounts of city space designated for water supplieing buildings. is their a cheat that will eliminate the need for water distribution and where it will not show up in the polls or papers that the city is dry? just wondering, ive been searching for awhile and could not find anything on this. thanks in advance!

Ctrl + X followed by HowDryIAm removes water demand

Are you using water pipes? To start a city you can just build one water pump, then click the water pipes, connect the pipe to the pump, and build pipes to spread coverage. Unlike Power, water is NOT transferred by zones.

Pipes supply for 6 tiles in each direction, so one pipe in one direction, and then pipes with gaps of 12 between in the other connects all your water pumps to the whole city.

ok thank you, and yes i am using pipes. i just dont think the coverage is very good and i dont see the need for me to clutter my cities space with alot of pumps. do alot of people use this mod in order to eliminate the bad look of tons of pumps? just curious as i never see them when i search through he journals. again, thanks in advance!

10 watertowers have the same costs as 1 waterpump.

10 waterpumps have the same costs as 1 large waterpump.

Every 50 years or even before a pump needs to be replaced, as the output will lower to 0% while the costs will stay the same.

Waterpipes supply an area of 6 tiles to all sides. Best is to lay the pipes in north-south or east-west orientation. Then you draw in a pipe every 13th tile. Of course you need one vertical pipe to connect the pipes with each other.

you can route the pipes to cover whatever areas you wish (and to exclude what ever area you wish) .. While you are drawing pipes, you can see the blue color on areas that will get water.. by properly "bending" the pipes you can make them avoid whereever you wish

you could also keep your industry in it's own waternet, by not connecting the pipes under your industry to the other water net and give them their own water tower or water pump depending on the size of the industrial area you have

Since Dirty and Manufacturing industry develop perfectly fine without water, its probably not a good idea to do that.  Unless you are watering high tech industry, then in that case, its no harm to connect the high tech water supply to the main residential commercial supply.  I like the idea of building the pipes so as not to touch industry, power plants, and farms.
