~ The Clock Tower is a landmark in Hong Kong. It is located on the southern shore of Tsim

Sha Tsui, Kowloon. It is the only remnant of the original site of the former Kowloon Station

on the Kowloon-Canton Railway. Officially named Former Kowloon-Canton Railway Clock Tower ,

it is usually referred to as the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower for its location ~

~ Built out of red bricks and granite, the Clock Tower peaks at 44 metres, and is topped by a 7-metre

lightning rod. The top of the tower can be reached by a wooden staircase located within. The interior of

Clock Tower had previously been open for visit, but is currently closed for maintenance. The clock tower

is located near Victoria Harbour at the foot of Salisbury Road. Another landmark, the Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Pier,

is located nearby ~

|| The tower has been listed as a declared monument in Hong Kong since 1990 ||

~ The plan of Kowloon-Canton Railway was realised in 1904 with its terminus in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The railway was inaugurated on 1 October 1910; however, construction of the station did not

begin until 1913. Because of World War I, the British materials required for the construction

could not be shipped on time, and construction was halted for some time. The part of the station,

together with Clock Tower, was completed in 1915, and the whole station 28 March 1916 ~

~ The Clock Tower reused the clock from the demolished Pedder Street Clock Tower. However,

only one side had a clock, and it was not until 1920 that the remaining three sides of the Clock Tower

were installed. They began operation in the afternoon of 22 March 1921, and have run ever since except

during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong during World War II ~

~ Kowloon refers to an urban area in Hong Kong made up of Kowloon Peninsula and New Kowloon,

bordered by the Lei Yue Mun strait in the east, Mei Foo Sun Chuen and Stonecutter's Island in the west,

Tate's Cairn and Lion Rock in the north, and Victoria Harbour in the south. It had a population of 2,019,533

and its population density was 43,033/km² in 2006. Kowloon is located north of Hong Kong Island and south

of the mainland part of the New Territories. The peninsula's area is approximately 47 km² or 18.1 mi².

Together with Hong Kong Island, it contains 48% of Hong Kong's total population ~

Incredible mosaic, one of the best I've seen in a long time! I love the chaotic atmosphere of Kowloon, the signs and traffic add that perfect touch. I also like the water texture and those reflections with the seawalls, great job, You're doing an excellent job as usual!

~ Hong Kong is frequently described as a place where East meets West,

reflecting the culture's mix of the territory's Chinese roots with the culture

brought to it during its time as a British colony. Although over a decade has

passed since the handover, Western cultural practises remain, and coexists

seamlessly with the traditional philosophy and practices of Chinese culture ~

~ One of the more contradictions notice is Hong Kong's balancing of a modernized

way of life with traditional Chinese Superstitious Practice. Concepts like Fung shui

are taken very seriously, with expensive construction projects often hiring expert consultants,

A number of Hong Kong filmmakers have also achieved widespread fame in Hollywood,

such as John Woo, Wong Kar-wai and Tsui Hark. Homegrown films such as Chungking Express,

Infernal Affairs, Shaolin Soccer, Rumble in the Bronx, and In the Mood for Love have gained

international recognition. Hong Kong is also the world's main center for Cantopop music,

which draws its influence from other forms of Chinese music, and more international styles

including jazz, rock and roll, rhythm and blues, electronic music, western pop music and others,
