SimCity Societies vs City Life - Which sucks more/less?

SimCity Societies vs City Life.  Neither game, IMHO, is a particularly great city sim.  Both have positives and both have many negatives.  Both are 3D.  Each has it's own unique style.  Unfortunately both restrict you to much smaller cities than in previous fake 3D games.

My thoughs?

City Life does have roads at any angle which is nice.  The game feels unfinished though.  The terrain editor is a pain in the ass.  The buildings are limited, repetitive and boring, as are the robotic citizens populating the world.  It's missing public transportation and agricultural which, quite frankly, I like in my cities.  And quite frankly I hate the way the 6 social classes are set up so that the only way to create a working city is to segregate it into ghettos.

SimCity Societies is obviously not SC4.  The fact that you can only place dirt roads or streets at 90 degree angles is unacceptable.  Especially since the BUILDINGS can be built at 45 deg angles!  I don't hate it though.  You get a huge variety of buildings to place which I like and I still find it pretty immersive.  I don't mind the slightly cartoonishness of it.  That's Sim world - cartoonish people walking to and from work screaming GLABOOO NOO ZAKAAA!!  Problem is there just isn't a lot of room on the tiny maps.  I can basically model Hoboken, NJ - population 50,000, area 1 square mile.

Also SCS is a freakin resource hog.  I can play Supreme Commander on nearly the highest settings and I can only play this game on Low.  Not to mention it crashes every 5 minutes, but that might just be because my copy isn't....um...legit.

So that's my opinon - City Life = nice idea but boring and sterile in its execution, SCS = ok game but too simplified in too many key areas.

I think SCS, but I haven't given CL a huge chance. Keep meaning to try it more. I really like how you can zoom right down to ground level and start walking around in CL. I don't mind the splitting up of ghettos, though, cause really that's the way a lot of cities end up forming. Even up here in Canada, a country that likes to consider itself acceptably multicultural, different classes and races segregate into their own areas.

I think SCS will get a lot better as time goes on, and people should remember that SC4 wasn't amazing at launch either. Many of it's transportation problems weren't fixed until the release of Rush Hour.

I'm to frapping cheap to try either one. I haven't heard very good reviews or opinions on either game. Money being tight no in days, I guess I'll just hold off on both of them until maybe a patch or more likely a new game all together, lol.

They both have their advantages, but I don't think they are really comparable, Kind of like comparing GTA with Sim City 4

I'm sad to say but SCS sucked more. At least with City Life you can build realistic curving roads and have cities that look fairly realistic instead of cartoony.

Everything about both games I've heard says they both suck. I won't be wasting my money supporting a company that releases crap. Bring on Simcity 5!!

Don't believe what you hear. Try it out and see for yourself. Societies is a great game if you take the time to study the sims and their behavior. The magic of it will make itself clear to you with enough time. But you gotta be into the idea of a society simulator that is not a city builder. The game is all about the people and their relationship to each other and the buildings around them. Start playing around with all the interface options for displaying sim happiness levels, happiness modifiers, and special sim tracking and it'll start to become clear.

No it is not the most complex game around, but it is still young. Simcity4 had it's host of problems until Rush Hour came out, and I think SCS deserves the same levels of patience given that it is not SimCity5, it is a new series.

I had SCS for aleast 3 months now. I got bored in 5 days. Its like they rushed this game and just like EA would. "Give more EPs to fork in more money." The games in 1990-2005 were good for Sim games. 2006-2008 on Sim games, not so good as I thought it should be.

In comparsion to CL (I dont have this game) this game has more postive reviews than SCS. So CL will be alot more better than SCS.

well i'm gonna say that citylife is more interestnig..... because for one..... u can do more with it...and they came out with socieites really before simcity socieities did....

and 2 - actual cities can be built that make sense....even if repative buildings...but same thing happens in socieities....

and 3 - citylife can run for hours on end without crashing ever....

simcity socieites is more colorful - that's about the only benefit....

and it still crashes after reaching about 20,000 or more population.....even after patch 4 - ......still a memory problem!

and for those that say simcity4 had problems at launch.....  it was nothing compared to the problems experienced with simcity socieities....   i ran simcity 4 on a machine that didn't even meet the system requirements - and it ran for days on end without crashing....

and it still works!!!!

however - with socieities - i well suprass the system requirements- yet it crashes after awhile.....     yah.....give me a break.....  and considering some still cannot even open the game...that's pathetic!

they rushed the game....pure and simple - and it does...get boring pretty fast b/c there's no space in the cities....and it becomes too repatative...and time passes to do nothing....except fires every once and awhile - there's no real change with time in societies...all u do is plop!

And SCS is good game which doesn't crash and it's very stable, i have also a good pc config' and a PC up to date...

Sorry, i could not defend this crappy game which is City Life 9.gif

Sim-maire.

Funny. I didn't have problems with the original game and i didn't have problems with the pirated version aswell. I did have problems with Simcity:societies with tons of technical issues. Most were cleared with all those patches, but they don't save the crappy game from where it came with the developement.
