Lucida is a rather large family of typefaces that encompass a majority of styles we are familiar with. The particular focus of this city is Lucida Grande - Mac users will no doubt be very, very fond of this (although it is a PC I am currently typing on, with design being my trade, I am also quite comfortable dealing with OS X). But PC's are also not forgotten, with our old friend, the Blue Screen of Death! That particular typeface is Lucida Console.

As such, the connection between Lucida and High Tech industries within SC4 was a no-brainer, and just in time as well, as I have refrained from allowing these to develop in the cities already presented here. Its come to the point where they spring up as soon as I zone the land for their development.

This typeface was designed in 1985 by Charles Bigelow and Kris Holmes - also credited with the creation of Wingdings (don't expect to see that in this Journal 9.gif) - and is one of a few families of fonts that has a complete set of mathematically related symbols and correct spacings.

With this update, I will only reveal two images as this city is rather new - think of it as a teaser! This is because of a last minute change of plans regarding the order of which city was to be revealed next (as I have alluded to in my last update). But this promises to be an exciting new chapter of this Journal, especially with the newly released NAM - happy birthday NAM!

    art128: Thank you!

Twenty20: Me thanks you very much!

NMUSpidey: Thanks for the encouragement, hopefully it will be as you say 9.gif

Benedict: Unfortunately, that particular square is on hold while this new city takes priority, but its not too far away from being presentable!

Shingure: Those are V2 of jeronij's Modern Concrete Walls, they can be found on the LEX at SC4Devotion.

RJN: Congratulations! I've been here more than a year and look at my post count 3.gif

Lindevang in a CJ! I'm using that station today! What a shame that you don't have the  building at the side (though it feels a little cramped). You can see it at Google Earth (only the building alongside the railway belongs to the school).

    Wow, great updates!

Your cities are amazing and go right along with the typefaces. I especially like Grotesque, but I don't know why 4.gif

I've just spent a good few hours cleaning up my plugin folders and updating SC so the nightlighting will work - fingers cross that it will! Haven't really had a chance to develop things further. But while I'm here, some quick replies:

    typographiarepliesheadloa3.jpg

krbe: Its a cool station, thanks for the link - though I did have a hard time finding out which one it was 9.gif

    art128: Thanks!

    jacqulina: Thank you 4.gif

Russ93Plyr: Hahaha, I'm glad you like them, watch out for an update on that in the coming week(s?)

Benedict: I am trying a few things with the images, perhaps it does have too much blurring at the moment - I might revert back to the straight-up in game pictures depending on what the focus of it is.

    nottheboss: Thanks 9.gif

edmonton_stinks: Thanks, will need to think of ways to eliminate too much repetition - and I'm a little time poor to look through the STEX and LEX for some HT BATs.

Great work on your last two updates they are looking fantastic. I really like that pic with the Intercity rail, it looks amazing. The farms look pretty good on the last page, as does the rest of that update. Not too sure about the blur though...but it's not bad enough to ruin the pic which is good. As usual you always have a cool banner at the top of the update, not sure if I have brought that up but I really like them. 9.gif

Oh wait! The Names of each place is based off of each kind of Windows Font. Clever! I didn't notice it until now. I love this Cj though.

What a jerk I've been—Virtual Earth lets you see it in bird's eye view (and it looks much better from that angle!). The whole block is interesting, but especially the school 10.gif

See those white three cars trains? They were recently voted "best metro" by Metrorail, and one of the reasons for that is that it runs every second minute on the main stretch. Though I would have used some upgraded trains for passenger comfort if you're using it as InterCity connections (hard, hard seats with little space, and max speed of 80 kmh).

I'm afraid there hasn't been as much progress as I had hoped, building these cities are becoming harder and harder. And I've come to the conclusion to only concentrate at most on 4-5 typefaces and develop them to an acceptable stage before moving forward with any new material.

This way, I can focus on cities better, add much more detail and greatly differentiate each individual typeface. I think its just a much more efficient and effective use of my time 9.gif

Having said that, I do have a little teaser banner for you - it is the start of the working week tomorrow and I won't really have time to play again until Thursday or Friday! Stay safe my friends, and prepare for the onslaught of the already revealed 4 cities!

    didotheadlineom4.jpg

    typographiarepliesheadloa3.jpg

Amerikaner: Thank you, I've reduced the blur on further updates already and should be more of a tool to focus attention rather than a major influence on the picture. I do like to keep things tidy and consistent, and they are also a way to showcase the real typefaces themselves - although at a rather small pt size.

Shingure: Window's Fonts!!! How horrible to think that these beautiful typefaces are only confined to the constrains of a beige box! 3.gif No no, I assure you, there are some that you won't find shipped in the copy of XP or Vista. 9.gif

krbe: Hey, thanks for the link, it does look amazing, the school is quite impressive. And I see your point about passenger comfort, I am currently on a look out for some el-rail train sets that will complement that station nicely!

I like your idea of focusing on building a few cities at a time and getting them where you want them to be before moving on. Also, sometimes cities seem to develop a character all on their own, without much planning... maybe you could name one or two *after* building them if their character suggests a certain typeface? Looking forward to seeing more from the 2 new as well as the 2 older cities.

Rather than show nothing at the start of the week (and this seems to be the most active time for forum posters) I'll probably save little tidbits from the weekend that I can show just to keep things rolling at a steady pace.

Don't worry, there will still be big updates but its always going to be proportional to the amount of free time that I have!

    typographiarepliesheadloa3.jpg

    NUMSpidey: 16.gif

Benedict: A good idea, I'll need to think about that - they might end up not being very good cities without a plan in advance, although there are positives within that. Hmmm, I really do need to think about this! Thank you for suggesting it!

Shingure: Don't think, just... feel... then you won't be confused 10.gif

    nottheboss: Yes sir!

    didotheadlineom4.jpg

You will notice something that has been missing from the past updates. Shadows! I turned it up to medium and makes the images much more "realistic", although I'll have to say that its adversely affecting the gameplay. I really need to steel myself for an upgrade to this old, but faithful 4 year old.

As for these pictures, think of them as progress shots, some of what you see have already been demolished and replaced, it would have had a range of reasons, from game mechanics to simply changing the aesthetic of the city.

    20160814di1.jpg

You'll notice some custom houses in there, I think they blend rather well with the Maxis R$$$ mansions.

    20160909ir3.jpg

This was a rather eclectic residential area, some of the less aesthetic-abiding buildings have since been pulled down, but what I find really awesome are ped malls, now my commercial areas have breathing space!

Shadows are looking good. 2.gif So are those custom houses, I agree that they are really blending in well with the Maxis ones. Phenomenal use of the PM tiles around the city, they match up with the street sidewalks perfectly. Nice parking lots next to the offices, they look great (and definitely realistic). Not bad for a two-picture update. 3.gif

I really enjoy seeing the fonts come alive.... SC4 style. An interesting concept which gives you a creative outlet for interpretation.

So sorry I haven't been able to post in a while! I have been watching Typographia, honestly! 19.gif I really like the second picture of this recent update. Everything blends so nicely, and those brick roads fit Didot perfectly! Can't wait to see more, especially since you've decided to add more details!

Very wide open and interesting. Very nice. Even thought the name of the Typeface is funny. Di-Dot.
