I agree. While some countries/places may have the ONLY signs like these at intersections, we all know these sims are dum anyway, so why bother 18.gif17.gif17.gif

Really though, this needs to be rectified so that it isn't biased towards non-english speaking owners of the game. I realise that most if not all of the NAM content is English based, but changing something like the FSH Textures to accomodate for various languages of the game is going to cause a disliking for the item. So if possible, standard FSH that don't include these words & just the arrows should be suffice really (for inclusion in the NAM).


EDIT: while I remember; for those of you wondering about the ATL & NAM compatibilty; Some minor adjustments & changes have had to occur as a result, but the next version of the NAM will effectively see the integration of the ATL into the NAM.

Quick Questions.
 
Why is it in some of the pics shown there is a 3rd traffic light and in some there is only 2? I am only getting the game standard 2 traffic lights . I am using the #3 versioin of the beta. I put all the dat's (plus the one for right hand driving) in my program files/plugins.

I am also getting the divider section at the end of some of my trun lanes. I have the newest version of NAM in my plugins and they are still there. Is there certain parts of NAM that I should or should not be using with this mod?

I don't understand what you mean with the first part of your answer.  All I have in the game right now is a regular 4-way intersection and the trun lanes show up fine, however I do not get the 3 light traffic light poles (shown in the picture in the posts above). Just the 2 light version. (shown in the picture above and on page 7. It also shows the divider problem)
 
As for the NAM thing, on page 7 it is stated that the problem with the divider that shows up at the end of the turn lane was caused by an older version of NAM and that the newest NAM would not cause the problem. I have no problem getting turn lanes to show up (or function) with NAM installed, unless they are ment to show up at T intersectoins. I don't get any turn lanes with that type of intersection. The problem shown in the picture only happens when a certain wealth levels being placed next to the avenue.

there is only 1 intersection for the turning lane that the avenue straight cross and the NAM overrides the ATL so you aren't get it.

so if you want to see the 3 light pole

remove the NAM or wait till there is a new NAM release.

I like the 3 light traffic light idea, however, I was thinking maybe we could make it so that the third light, the one for the left turners, would be a protected arrow light. If thats not possible, is it then possible to at least have the lights across the street from the traffic they regulate? For example, if traffic is coming from the south, the light shouldn't be on the south side of the intersection, but instead the north side. This way, the drivers in front wont be directly under the traffic light AND there would be a touch of realism added to the game. If none of these are possible then thats okay. Pooty, a protected left turn animation isn't possible. We are still trying to figure out how to put the stoplights across the intersection from the side they control. Right now, if we place the stoplights on the opposite side, the lights don't work. They have to be on the tile that the stop points are on in order to work properly.

As stated in the previous page, the last version of the ATL (BTW what does ATL mean? I assume the TL part stands for Turning Lanes but what the A means?) can be found here

EDIT: O well, nevermind, I've just read on the other page that ATL stands for Avenue Turning Lanes 21.gif, it's quite logical 18.gif

Swamper - have you tried offsetting the props? Keeping them on the tile that they represent, but displaying the props 16m overboard?

1. Saved a copy of the Open Paved Area and exited LE.
2. Opened the Reader and copied the props from the network tile onto the lot, ReIndexed the LotConfig and exited the Reader.

    This is a thread for beta testers of the avenue turning lanes project to post examples of the progress, and discuss any changes that might need to be made.  Others not involved in the project feel free to leave your words of encouragement here.  If you would like to help out, please PM me and let me know which of the tasks you could help with.  We could always use more texture artists who can draw quality textures.
     


    • Path editing - This is much simpler than RUL editing (I think, anyway).  It simply involves plotting a path where cars and sims will travel along these turning lanes.  Once a texture is done, this person or people will write a path file for that tile.
    • Intersection Lot Editors - They will create type 21 exemplar lots which will allow these intersections to have stoplights.  You could get as crazy as you want, adding separate lights and anim sections for protected left turn arrows, or just keep it simple and use the existing traffic lights.  Some more investigation may be necissary to bend these to our will, but I'm sure some of our greatest lot editors and BATters will be up to the challenge.
    • Texture Artists - They will create textures based on what the RUL editors say they need.  They should strive to encorporate them as well as they can into the existing look of SC4.  The textures need to be delivered as FSH textures within a dat file, with all zooms and wealth levels and alpha maps.
    • Testers - They will get the latest alpha copy of the modd and test it, reporting back to inform us of problems.  They should test both the normal and UK driving versions of the modd.

     

    Those who are leaving thier comments, please keep your comments supportive.  There are lots of people contributing to this, but we have limited resources, so we will not be able to satisfy everyone on the nuances of how different aspects of this mod should be made.

    Click Save Target as or save as and it should save a ZIP file to where ever you have specified.
     
    That worked for me and now I can enjoy the turning lanes once and for all. Here's hoping SC5 (when ever it comes out) has this or our dedicated people who created this for SC4 can do it all over again 2.gif

    The ATL in it's most current form is in the newest NAM correct? So that means don't download any separate ATL files. All we need currently should be in the NAM.

    The only problem I have so far with the ATL is a texture problem... in the US... ALL markings dividing opposing lanes of traffic are yellow. I know some of the textures are being done by a non-US member, thank you for the work by the way, but we do need a version with yellow stripes.

    in the game the white stripes is what the game uses making them yellow requires more worked than we had planned.
