WJ - are you trying to convey something like Boston's 'Big Dig'?  That would be AWESOME to have in SC4!

Agreed. This will probably be one of the best things that has ever happened to SC4.29.gif

Tropod I think those pedestrian malls would be great.  I would also like to see some Traffic Circles.

Holy . . that is just - - uggggh. I don't even want to think about modelling such a thing. Cool, yes. Ungodly traffic patterns - unfortunately, also yes.

The point it to have two types of ground railways... one of tramways (strassenbahn aus deutsch) and another of real rails (with high speed trains of course, or commute trains).

Well sorry but it's not functional and not done yet...

oh i see, is that possible?
quote>

Maybe possible one day if it is modded...
The cool thing would be to be able to have three types of trains: freight, commute and highspeed... all on the same tracks... but with different stations for each of them!

Anyway lets dream about it...

but im not sure whether with the puzzle pieces you can get two types of transport working if so then a tramway might be possible

Ok; since this is something that I had been curious about, and since I'm sure I'm not the only one who is interested in this, I DID A TEST [ok, ppl got that, a test? I do not want to have to answer an onslaught of stupid questions regarding this; I am posting this for the benefit of knowledge for the fact that this is indeed possible];

Using the Puzzle Piece method that I've created, I have managed to do the following;

RailxRoadxDualUse.JPG' border=0

The two different networks are actually sitting on the same tile.

UDI seemed to work, for both cars on the road [using a police car] & also for the Train on the elevated section [the elevated rail, is actually groundrail elevated]. With the UDI car though, I could not steer off the road, though this is understandable considering this would be treated like a highway interchange [& as such, the UDI car is pretty much stuck to the road on straight sections]. How the UDI would work with this when it comes to an intersection though, I'm not sure.

One thing here that bothers me is; the Route Query Tool only shows the number of road users, doesn't seem to show the number of rail users [though the Train stations still show this]. Whether there is a way to overcome this somehow, I don't know.

Also, I have not tested this for [specific] network capacity, volume/congestion, or traffic pollution and the like. In any event though, I personally think this is rather interesting.

Here got it... see how Tropod has two networks working on one tile!?

can you please give more information on that tunnel you posted a little while.  Im currently working on my highway system and i could really use a tunnel thing like that.

Btw the train stuff looks nice

tunnels can be done by raiseing the terrain up, making the tunnel, then leveling off the water. be forewarned though u drive it cars and such dont drive through it. i tried doing that and i came to the conclusion that i will not use the underwater tunnels until it actually comes out properly.

my car went through the tunnel but then came out when the shore approached. as if there was an exit for the tunnel right at the shore line.

gambit, I think he's refering to the tunnel that wasn't done in a straight shot. Look back a few posts, there's a picture of it. The poster is still working on it as a mod, so it isn't ready yet to be released.

DRoseDARs, if you read a bit more carefully you'd realise it's not a MOD, nor is it going to be one because nobody is working on this... it is just an IDEA for something YET TO BE DONE ;-(

God... soon they'll say I'm a MODder, lol...

no actually i was refering to those tunnels cause i read about that somewhere and probably got the two threads mixed up. cause i was trying to implement to tropod to see if there was a weird problem with that and can be fixed. and i saw him in both threads.

WJ - Nice pic! A two-for-one bargain!!!

Well go tell Tropod about it and push him to investigate more :) We want to save space and be able to drag El-Rail and Monorail over avenues and road!

This is nice, I hope that there will come a official tram add-on or it will be included in SimCity5. It's nice to have a tram, and metro/tram connection, just like in Amsterdam or something. Now I think that the angle if there is a turn is not very nice. But the Idea is nice. Sometimes I use onewaystreets for this effect19.gif

man i cant get over how all of you people talk about sc5 there was a 4 or 5 yr gap between sc3000 and sc4

I think street cars would be very kewl especially since i am playing on the san francisco map.  How much of an impact on traffic would this have.

lol my thoughts exactly,

anyway it does look like we can have 2 networks but im not sure how the automata would work for it, i mean the trains would be acting independantly ot the cars so it'd look a bit odd wouldn't it?

i suppose for avenues you could get rid of cars in the inside lane and use that for rail/tram and have a rail texture so cars would use the outside lane and wouldnt collide with the train automata

yes I want a nice roundout and not a ugly one, something with trees within, like the one on the Coopsingel with a fountain and a small one for resident areas1.gif

Yeah, I also wouldn't mind roundabouts either if it's possible. We have them here in Australia, and most people here are familiar with them. They removed a quite significant one nearby recently though (it was the worst accident blackspot in Sydney on numbers of accidents, although it was usually only minor prangs). I would be talking about the infamous 5-ways, which has now been replaced by an even more confusing traffic light intersection (if only I had a pic)...

BTW, in case you're wondering, we really only have one freeway/freeway intersection here in Sydney, and it's not that complex. If you look at our fractured freeway network (there's gaps everywhere) you'd understand why. We do, however, have the widest (footpath to cycleway)bridge in the world (look in the Guinness Book of Records 2004 on page 118). At 48.8m wide, it'd be just over 3 tiles wide in SimCity if represented accurately.

We also have the worlds oldest electric opening bridge, (Pyrmont Bridge, which while it no longer carries road traffic, having been bypassed by the mess that is the Western Distributor) and it still opens on occasion. (Sydneysiders that doubt this: I have seen it open once for a boat higher than the road deck, but lower than the monorail track).

Of course, I'm not expecting the five ways (I know it'd be a bit much to expect) but I would like a roundabout if it's possible.

Sorry about the long post, but I had to boast about Sydney!
